Accepted Solution

Gmail Setup

It took me hours to set up the email for my Gmail account on the Nook Tablet.  I finally found the solution:

Gmail email account setup requires the Nook Tablet device to be authorized.

1. Log in to Gmail account
2. Go to the settings gear in upper right hand corner (Firefox Browser) click on drop down menu and then click on Mail Settings.
3. Under IMAP section, click on enable IMAP.
4. Open a new window or tab and Go to http://support.google.com/mail/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=1173270  and follow the instructions for authorizing a device.

Have the Nook tablet Email setup page open to enter the Google generated password.  Enter the Gmail email address
and then the generated password.

Happy Holidays!!

Re: Gmail Setup

It's a great tip but mine still isn't working. I've tried changing to the same port my iPhone uses, too, to no success.

Re: Gmail Setup

Do you have two factor authorization enabled?

I didn't need to do any of this to setup Gmail. It just worked the normal way.

Lilymae, what things have you tried so far.

What device are you on? Just want to confirm it's Nook Tablet before suggesting anything.

Re: Gmail Setup

I have the HD+ and this is how I got my email up, I had trouble at first too:

When it asks you to log in, put your email addy and password in then hit 'Manual Setup'.

Select IMAP

Then use these settings:

Incoming settings
IMAP server: imap.gmail.com
Port: 993
Security type: SSL (first option)

Outgoing settings
SMTP server: smtp.gmail.com
Port: 465
Security type: SSL (first option)

Re: Gmail Setup

I believe when you enter your email address and then go to the manual setup mode you need to correct your user name.  For me, it assumed my email address was my user name to login for the connections, which it is not.

Re: Gmail Setup

Thanks

This worked !

You do not have to type in the numbers you mention.

By choosing he security option the data is plugged in.

Re: Gmail Setup

Thank You, you saved me an enormous amount of grief. Unfortunately, while very friendly the BN help folks are not well qualified in the nuances of the nook. I am still trying to get an answer as to why my nook receives certain WiFi signals and not others.

S Moran

Nook supports a, b, g and not n protocol.

And it doesn't support mixed mode.

That's why some WiFi networks are supported and some aren't.

Re: Gmail Setup

Thanks so much NookerBC!

I thought I had tried everything and was getting extremely frustrated. I finally found your post and setting up my account took a matter of seconds.

You're a life saver!

Re: Gmail Setup

Just go to "Settings", "Social", "Manage Your Accounts" and where you see Google, click "Link Your Account". Hope it helped! :smileyhappy:

Re: Gmail Setup

I have a Nook HD and the only social connections I can activate are Facebook and Twitter. I can't see any way to add any others, let alone to link them.

HD has only Facebook and Twitter for Social Connections.

You have to get to Google via Applications > Calendar (or Contacts). Then you can add account. And then Google Mail will work.

Note: This is what other users say works if GMail doesn't work for you straight. And then other users have confirmed it works - but it might not work for everyone.

Re: Gmail Setup

I can not log in with gmail.  It seems the first part of your email works but the 2nd part is giving me an error message

Incoming settings
IMAP server: imap.gmail.com
Port: 993
Security type: SSL (first option)

Outgoing settings
SMTP server: smtp.gmail.com
Port: 465
Security type: SSL (first option)

Couldn't open connection to server.  Can anyone else help me get logged in with gmail?

PLEASE

I think the outgoing server is port  587 with TLS. Try that.  This worked for me.

Re: Gmail Setup

I just got my gmail account to sync on my Nook tablet by selecting security setting that allowed all certificates.

Re: Gmail Setup

Go to the Play Store icon and tap it. This will prompt you to log in with your Gmail user id and password. Once this is configured, certain Apps associated to your Gmail email services (Talk & email icon) will automatically set up.

*NOTE = You do not go to the general email folder to set up your Gmail; your Gmail is treated separately.
