The freezing that I have experienced is always (almost) related to displaying a video through the web browser. Prior to the 1.4.1 update, I could watch videos at pbs.org, but after the update it just locks up. So, what is going on. Flash capability is required for these pbs videos and the Puffin web browser nicely displays the need for flash, which it doesn't have and keeps all out of trouble. The default browser proceeds on with its limited flash capability and gets very sick. This is a very limiting bug, B&N should fix it very quickly.

Same thing happened to me. Had a Color for a while and had no problems with it. Bought a Tablet and the browser locks up a lot. I always have to cycle power on the Tablet to free up the browser. I can use Puffin on some of these websites to avoid lockups, but since it did not play videos I still use the default browser most of the time. I have sent a bug report to the B&N support email site but they did not even bother to reply. Sure hope they fix this in the next release, and that the release would be soon.
HEY B&N! If you want us to recommend these to friends, please let us brag about having good support, instead of having to tell stories about lack of response, PLEASE. Also, fix the "can't use fonts with special characters" problem that makes it impossible to read Greek on websites.

Try using the Dolphin Browser. It was released on Thursday and it's free. Seems to be pretty fast and has a lot more features than the stock browser. It also supports flash. I've made Dolphin my default browser.

I'm having issues too. The force screen can be found by selecting the web icon and when it pops up press the bar on the left with the 4 lines...not sure how to describe it. My issue is the browser quit working when I was loaning and borrowing books. It says the browser quit unexpectedly...no kidding and now I can't connect either.

Like many others here, I'd recommend installing an alternate browser. The default is all kinds of buggy. I was less annoyed by the fairly infrequent lockups than I was by the fact that it doesn't seem to like some websites, including Amazon, which often causes it to crash. I wonder why that is... In any case, you'll probably never find an e-reader or other device that is bug free. Those running iOS are no exception.

This works for me, too. But whatta a pain in the anatomy to be forced to stop and restart the wireless routers several times daily!

I bought the Nook Tablet in January 2012. Shortly thereafter I started having the problem with "freezing" issues during web surfing. Called customer support and they very nicely told me how to restart/reboot, whatever you call it. Did this and it worked fine for about two weeks. Have tried the resetting the security settings as it says to do in the Tablet Guide. Sometimes this works and sometimes it doesn't. I am extremely frustrated with this product. I bought the tablet for both reading and web surfing. It only does half of what it specifications says it will do.
I will not recommend this product and Barnes & Nobles needs to correct this problem! I am feeling ripped off by Barnes & Noble.

Clearing all caches (page content, cookies, etc.) solved this issue for me.

I bought my Nook tablet two weeks ago. While using the web the entire tablet froze: web, e-mail, e-reader---everything. It wouldn't even power down on it's own. Thanks for the suggestion to hold the power button for 15-20 seconds. That did the trick.
@ PJLLB-- How do you "clear all caches"?

While in the browser (the stock one that comes with the NT): get to the settings menu by tapping the the menu item on the right of the address bar, then More Options>, then Settings, then scrolling down to Privacy settings. The Clear Cashe and Clear history actions are there.
Since I operate in Android mode most of the time (booting using an Android For Nook SD card) Dolphin Browser HD is the browser I use exlusively. Dolphin is free in the B&N app store so you can use in in Nook mode too. It's a far better browser than the Nook stock browser and provides much more customizing and functionality.

my nook froze on a web site and i can not do a hard shut off - nothing works - my son suggested i let it run out of power and then maybe it will work again - after reading the posts about this issue and knowing that i returned my nook reader that had freezing problems and bought this instead i was hoping to not have any more problems with nook devices - unfortunately this is not the case - if i can not get another way to access the internet with this nook i will return it to the store and buy the amazon fire which i am hearing is having no problems. - can you help with this?

Get the Dolphin Browser HD app -- it's free and does not seem to have the stability problems that the stock browser does.

Hey Everyone!! I just got my nook tablet a week ago and im in love with it! But,starting yesterday it has been acting up. I was on the internet looking at pictures when suddenly my screen went black!! It is still on(I can see the faint glow of the backlight) but i cannot turn it off, cannot acess the quick nav menu, and it does not respond when I hook it up to the charger.I have been extremely careful with it and i have not dropped it. I do not know if it is a problem in the nooks system so i am thinking about returning it.
What do you guys think i should do?

Press the power button for 20-30 seconds, then wait for 20-30 seconds, then try to power it back on. This hard reset should work.

If holding the Power button down for 20-30 seconds doesn't fix it, take it back and exchange it for a new one.

The reason Dolphin and Pufin browsers work better is they lack Flash player which is primarily the problem with the B&N browsers slowness. When you load a lot of web pages the Flash content is a big slowdown on a tablet like the Nook Color that has a limited CPU and bogs down. If you go into advance settings and turn off plug ins or set it to only load them whe you select. Then it runs faster. Let's be honest the web browsing portion of the Nook Color is not the primary reason for this device. Its a reader first and a occasional web use for things like looking up weather or cheacking email or getting a map. its not supposed to be a primary device for the web.
