Over Priced Apps

Ok Barnes and Noble I love you, but really 2.99 for Angry Birds!? Or even the $.99 ones should free I HATE to compare you to Apple but most of their apps are free and they've got better apps such as Draw Something. This is just something im confused about, you see a have a Nook Tablet ( love it) and its had like Andriod stuff to so why cant I get apps from their app store? Yes, yes I know the Nook is a reader blah blah blah but sometimes while traveling I get tired of reading and I need some entertaning apps that I can afford. I do appologize for going on like this but I needed to get it out Thanks ****REN****

If none of the B&N Apps have ads, if they are free, how does the developer make any money?

Re: Over Priced Apps

The Angry Birds available for NOOK is also the HD Tablet version, which ranges between $2.99 and $4.99 on other tablet platforms as well.

All im saying is that if they can ad ads then they can be free and they can have the ad free version for those who are willing to pay the extra money

And that is a business model B&N is apparently not interested in supporting.

Re: Over Priced Apps

So? B&N obviously has a different business plan - that's their right. Whether it's a smart decision or not is an entirely different question. But just because Apple and Android do something, doesn't automatically mean B&N has to do it too.

Re: Over Priced Apps

My point is that they should try listening to their customers Im not saying we can force them into any thing but its getting kind of hard to try to convince my freinds that a Nook Tablet is better than a Kindle Fire ( which it is reading and downloading wise but not so much on the apps)

How do you know that the majority of customers feel this way about ad based apps?  If you're basing it on comments on the boards; online boards, forums, etc, are, in the majority of cases, not representative of the universe of owners/buyers as a whole.  It is representative of a small portion of owners, probably less than 5%, therefore, you cannot assume that the opinions, requests, etc posted here represent what the majority of owners want.

Re: Over Priced Apps

It's also always worth remembering that BN doesn't set the app prices - the developer does.

Re: Over Priced Apps

I wonder why all the other places the same apps are so much cheaper or why B&N doesnt get the ad version.

One word... ads.  B&N doesn't allow ad based apps on the nooks.  The ad free apps at the Amazon Market or the Google Play store will cost you as well.

Re: Over Priced Apps

Apps on the droid/iphone aren't really "free"... you are paying $40+/month for those "free" apps... just sayin...

/old man

In my day we paid $50 for a video game with less content than you get from Angry Birds. And the road to gamestop was uphill both ways in a blizzard!

Re: Over Priced Apps

[ Edited ]

The prices of apps fluctuate according to the category you are interested in.  I did a very unscientific search on my itunes store and found out that the most affordable apps are the ones most people want to have, social networiking apps (the twitters, the faces, the friends, etc.)  Most of them are free.  The most expensive one I saw was 1.99.

However, in the games category I saw some apps priced as high as 9.99 (Carcassonne with outstanding reviews), 5.99, 4.99, etc.  These apps were highly ranked as well.  So, people are willing to pay that much for those apps.  And I don't think they are complaining.  BTW, Angry birds Space sells for 2.99 everywhere, B&N included.

In the heath category, I saw an app, named DDS GP, which sells for $399.00.  That's only 100 dollars less than the price of the ipad.  In the music domain some go as high as 24.99 and a lot of them, which can be purchased via bn.com as well, are free.

Indeed, B&N has to do some catch up in this area.  There are rumors, that in the next months, B&N's library (video, music, apps) is going to be increased.  I hope the rumors are true.

Most of the free apps, in most of the markets, are not that great, IMHO.
