In the past five days, before the new update, I have been having problems in highlighting an entire sentence without the first letter of the sentence being left out. Secondly, the option to change the default hight of green to yellow or blue after putting my finger on the green has become impossible. I love my nook because of the ability to add memory, the clarity of reading page and video, the size
the vast book collection choice, the ability to click to see how many PAGES are left in the chapter so that I can decide if I should go to bed or contine reading to the end of the chapter, and the multiple choices of highlights.
As a reader of mysteries, I use green for newly introduced characters in twisting mystery stories. I change the green to yellow for great quotes or one liners and blue for major mystery clues in the plots. Since last Friday, I cannot get the blue or yellow to work at all while in chapter three of the fifth book of a mystery series. Very odd that it worked for four books and three chapters was working in four previous mysteries from the same author.
In working with support last night, he had me deregister the NOOK Color and reregister it. Time consuming, but it did fix the first word of the sentence highlighted. The yellow and blue option still did not work. The tech said green is the default and that there is no yellow or blue option! I begged to differ from personal experience. Later that night, the yellow and blue highlghts kicked in and worked. Ha!
My nook only 6 months old and it has been well cared for so I think I am going to ask for a replacement.

IMO this doesn't sound like a hardware issue, but is a software issue. If you haven't tried to go for a replacement yet, test out some other books and see if you are still having this issue.
The 1.4.3 update did fix one of the highlighting issues --- you can now get the LAST character in a sentence or page.
