web browser freezing anyone?

hey all,

anyone having problems with the web browser either crashing (thus taking you back to the home screen) or getting hung up/freezing and not being able to stop or open a new page without manually shutting down the nook tablet and starting back up? I've been having a lot of crashes and freezing and from what I can tell there's no way to quit and restart the browser besides a full shutdown of the nook tab and startup.

Re: web browser freezing anyone?

Yes,

Maybe once a day, whenever I try to open up a website either through typing or bookmarks, the browser refuses to open that website. I also notice that the address changes to something like http://m.facebook.com#!/ or something like that. If i try to open facebook, it should say m.facebook.com, but when the browser is not working, i get that address with the #!.

I also have to hard reset the nook tablet in order to use it again. I really wonder why this happens.

Also, I had it completely suddenly die on me, I was playing the casino app, and it just went black. I tried everything and it would´t turn on. I plugged in the charger, and it started. Weird thing is, it had 60% battery life. Very ODD.

Hope this helps buddy

Re: web browser freezing anyone?

Hmm haven't really noticed the url issue but yes, i' ve had trouble with crashing while using various apps as well. I'm hoping B&N will release some form of a software update soon to fix these issues. Especially with the fact that so many people are returning their kindle fires right now and switching over. Hope they include some way to place the web browser on the home screen as well.

Re: web browser freezing anyone?

My browser hung often for the first few days I had it, but I haven't noticed it since, and I've used it for several weeks. I did have it black out at 65% battery yesterday though. I thought I had been reading long enough to drain it, so I plugged it in, but the light stayed green. I held the on/off switch in for a minute to reset it, and it suddenly started up, still showing 65%. Hasn't happened since.

Re: web browser freezing anyone?

I too have had a few freezes while browsing.  The worst happened a couple of days ago when I was moving from one webpage to another and the Nook froze.  I did a hard reset, but instead of booting back up, it began to go into a loop of resetting - after the white nook screen, as the letters spread out on the screen, it would then get to the green circled "n" that you drage across to "wake up your nook." But before I could ever drag it all the way across, it would go blank and start rebooting again.  Maybe 5 times in a row.  Finally, it shut itself all the way down at some point.  It then had a green bar on the screen and a message that said, "clearing data...this may take a few minutes."  After maybe 10 minutes it successfully booted back up and was okay.  But all my data had been wiped off and I had to re-regsiter as if it was new.  It wasn't hard to set everything up again- maybe 10 minutes to do all the re-registering, downloading of books and apps, including re-recognizing all the sideloaded stuff I had on the microSD card (reinstalled ES file explorer).

So not terrible, but a bit of a hassle. The last thing I had done before this glitch was to sideloaded a battery monitor app - "Badass Battery Monitor" - it seemed to work fine, but I wonder if it had something to do with the problem.  I didn't re-load it.

Re: web browser freezing anyone?

That's the worst I've heard of the browser issues. Hope this doesn't happen to mine.

Re: web browser freezing anyone?

There's one particular site that crashes my browser frequently (www.theblaze.com). I have also experienced problems with the browser freezing up which has caused me to need to reboot the tablet.

Re: web browser freezing anyone?

I wrote another post about the same issue. Some websites load to 90% then don't progress and it hangs. Only way out is a reboot. Emailed customer service and they said that the browser won't work with those websites (really helpful!). Clearly a bug that needs to be addressed

Re: web browser freezing anyone?

Sounds like either some bad javascript or script that the NT can't handle. My NT gets stuck on these sort of things at times but once I either hit the refresh icon or go to another site things go back to normal.  Clearing your Open Windows also could help but if you don't get an error then perhaps this last thing isn't the issue. Now if the NT locks up on the B&N sites then you definitely have other issues as the B&N sites load up without slows!

Re: web browser freezing anyone?

Has anyone attempted to install 1.4.1?

This should be corrected in that update.

Re: web browser freezing anyone?

Same issues here as described by HappyNewBNCust... above.  Tried the 1.4.1 update, but wifi will not connect at all now.  And it's not the router, as all other devices connect just fine.  Frustrating that I have to reset all my shelves now, if I can ever connect and get re-registered, that is.

Re: web browser freezing anyone?

Alex do we need to download it if we are using a nook tablet? I thought that update was for the nook color only?

Re: web browser freezing anyone?

Now that I have 1.4.1. installed I will put the NT through my usual website checking as freezing was a normal experience for me too! If resolved perhaps there was a better or updated release of script handling which usually keeps a page from loading properly. You could always disable java.

Yes, I'm having the same issue with my browser getting stuck at about 90%.

I had fixed my original Wifi disconnect/connection issue by changing my router to G as recommended on the boards.

But starting 12/24 my web browser is freezing.  It will get to about 90%, then freeze and show the pop up on the web (New window/bookmarks/refresh, etc).  When I tap outside of the popup, it will close and I'm once again able to use the browser.

But, there has to be a better solution.

First I got wifi connection issue resolved and was able to move in the browser page to page no problem.

Now this issue pops up.

I hope this makes sense.  Please excuse any typos, etc.  It's 5:00am, and I've been up most of the night trying to issues resolved for my NST (See post:? My NST just updated 1.1.0-Now issues-Please Help) as well as Tablet.

Thank you

Re: web browser freezing anyone?

O. This does not help at all. The web browser has frozen on all sorts of screens including B&N sites. There is no way to manually force close or to shut down the browser. Even if i turn off the wifi I still cannot close. This is rediculous. It worked fine for about three weeks but has been problematic ever since. My daughter has nook colour and has no problems so why can B&N not fix it for Nook tablet users. HELP!

Re: web browser freezing anyone?

Why is the solution posted for this? It's not a solution technologically impaired people at B&N. My browser freezes on everything. I don't even know where to begin. The freezes dropped by maybe 5-10% after I switched on tablet browsing mode as opposed to desktop browsing mode, but that's it. I'm at 1.4.1, my browser crashes every now and then, and daily webpages just load into oblivion never ceasing to stop. It's ridiculous. After this I have to shut down my NT and restart it for it to work. Same thing occurs for my HULU plus, and Netflix, and sometimes my email. It's quite apparent what happened here. B&N rushed the development of these tablets (including parts used, methods of production, and most of all programming of OS)  to compete with the Kindle for the holiday season. The NT is a phenomenal ebook reader, but it's nearly a joke when it comes to doing the things a tablet is meant to do. If you truly want a stable guaranteed good performing tablet, invest in an iPad, Samsung tablet, Asus tablet, or the many more (many of which are price compatible with the NT). As an owner of the Kindle and the NT, yes they technically are tablets but in reality they are not. Their CPU's, memory offered, and data partitioning are a joke compared to modern tablets. I guess the NT is at best a low-end tablet like the Kindle, which is at the top of the evolutionary chain for ebook readers. What B&N ought to have at least done was leave the Android OS alone. Their corporates were too zealous to give money to Android for having their full OS on there, so they hired their own programmers to alter the OS to the point where it could technically be called B&N's with Android just dragging along. Big mistake. Android is widely-known as a very stable OS....idk what happened with it on the NT.

Re: web browser freezing anyone?

I've had the update for over a week and my internet/browser started freezing last night. So the update has definitely not fixed this issue. It freezes constantly and the only way to fix it is to shut it down. Very annoying!

Re: web browser freezing anyone?

I just started having the same issue this morning on the Nook Color.  The answer the answer that some web sites don't work is nonsense.  I have been accessing the same site daily for months.  This morning it suddenly stopped work, hanging, can't shut it down, etc.  I realized I am on the tablet discussion group.  I got here 'cause I was searching for an answer on the NC.
