I just have the regular Nook Simple Touch, and I love it!!! When I really want to read at night I just use the little attachable Nook light. It works great, so I don't see why anyone should bother buying this when you can just buy the light. ![]()
GlowLight is better, period.

- No separate battery.
- Nothing to detach when you don't want it to detach.
- Fits in pocket/purse without something to catch on.
- Is much, much lighter, especially considering the weight of the add-on light.
- Fits in all B&N covers w/o fiddling.
- Is cool.
- Allows you to sneer (or grin, if you prefer) at Kindle users in dimly-lit rooms.
- Allows free membership in the "Is there a contrast difference" discussion group.
- Allows you to loan out your Nook Touch to friends.
- It's new and improved.
Acer Iconia A500 (two): Android 4.0.3 rooted;; Nook Color: B&N 1.4.3 rooted
Nook Touch (two): B&N 1.2.1 rooted; Nook 1stEd/3G (two): B&N 1.7.0 rooted.
Customer loyalty is earned, not commanded or deserved, and easily lost.
Nothing is foolproof, because fools are so ingenious. Same for rooters.

You forgot the most important - nay, critical - feature:
- has grey piping around the edges!
Sheesh. these product comparisons that skip the important stuff. : )

I got my NST on Black Friday through the special deal, so it came with the white piping around the edge, which is of course much cooler than grey.
You could just skin the whole thing in blinding iWhite and out-cool them all!

I'm new at cool. How do zebra stripes rate?

Dean, I think you left off the most important point:
11: No constant fiddling with the light in an attempt to get the screen lit evenly without the light, or its reflection, shining in your eyes.
I never kept a light long enough for its battery to die, because I was always too distracted by it to actually read anything. Otherwise, the separate (non-rechargeable!) battery would probably have been the sticking point for me. I would have been constantly wondering how much longer the batteries were going to last and trying to remember where I put the replacement batteries I'd already bought.

Obviously reasons 6, 7 and 10 are the most persuasive reasons. ![]()

I've had my NSTG for 2 weeks now. It's simply awesome. It has great battery life. Using the glowlight, even at a low setting in lighted conditions, really brings out the pages. It's very responsive to touch and intuitive to use. And it just looks really good.
Occasionally, it looks like some lines are slightly darker or lighter, but when the Nook performs a hard-refresh (which it does every ~5 pages or so), things go back to crystal clear. This unevenness doesn't happen all the time by any means. And any discrepancy people see between the NST and NSTG may be due to that.
I also noticed at the store that the pesky "Battery LIfe" statement, which comes up every time you pick up the Nook at the store, tends to leave a ghosting effect on the text beneath/around that area. After forwarding a couple pages, the ghosting is gone. All in all, that seems like a rendering engine thing that may be improved as things go along. And don't worry, if you're thinking about getting one, that statement doesn't come up on your own personal device.
Is the NSTG lighting perfect? No, but it's really, really good, and it's definitely better than an external light. I even have an M-Edge light that is really nice with 3 brightness settings, and it beats that. Is that imperfect lighting distracting? No, not to me and I'm pretty picky. Is it worth upgrading from the original NST? That's something you'll need to decide. You're likely already decked out with all the goodies you need to make reading comfy. Is it worth upgrading from the Original Nook (i.e., not a "Touch"). Absolutely, and that's the category I fall into.
Is it worth choosing this over the Kindle? Well duh!!! Even if Amazon comes out with something similar, I'd still recommend B&N over them any day.

Coop34,
I agree with your summary wholeheartedly. The NSTG is not the perfect e-reader, however, it's quite close to be so. I hope that with time and a few upgrades, the NSTG will be the top seller in the e-reader world.

I upgraded from my N1E to the NSTG just last week actually. I had been living off the old Nook clip on light (which sucks). I will say that I do love the Glow light feature, although I turn it almost completely off due to the brightness (gives me a headache), so the plus is I don't use as much battery :-). Unfortunately I do miss the shelving and organization on my N1E, but I think with the glow light it is worth the upgrade!

Please stop copying and pasting. Once was enough. Twice was overkill. Three (plus) times is spam.
(Especially when it sounds as if it is a communication issue, not actually B&N's refusal to replace a failed eink screen.)

LOL, this dude cracked me up. I'm sort of sad he melted down so quickly.

Apparently he's not done melting yet. More posts have just arrived. ![]()
