One month battery life based on 1/2 hour reading a day, before you turn on the light? ........that's called a "why bother."
I would still be doing a full battery charge every other day or so. Puffery annoys me as much as reading my Nook plugged in to charge. Again.
If you want me to buy it, get a battery designed for someone who reads books, not just browses them.

If I haven't misread your post, Milady, I think you might have misread the article. As I read it, the battery life with the light off remains the same. With it on full time, it's cut in half. :-)

Hm, good catch, I misread the ad.
Thank you for the correction!
I am still annoyed with the battery life however. Like many book readers, I read far more than 1/2 hour a day. Poor battery life in every reader I've looked at is why I haven't upgraded from my nook 1st gen. Give me a battery life designed for a true bibliophile and I'll be the first in line waving my credit card and begging the cashier to take mah monies! ![]()

Battery life on the current N2E is MUCH better than the original Nook. I'm not sure, though, if regular "non-glow" Nooks will still be sold after the new model comes out though.

I did upgrade to the NST because of the claimed battery improvement. Like you, I read a lot, and I've found the improvement in battery life dramatic. I regularly go a month between charges, and if I didn't, I could always dowhat the buddy I gave my N1E to does. He just automatically plugs it in overnight--every night. It's the last thing he does before he turns out his light for the night..

The N2E has that. I read a lot more than that too, and I'm amazed at how long the battery lasts.
I charged my N1E 2-3 times a week, sometimes more. Sometimes I had to read with it plugged in. I've had the N2E since last June and I've never had to charge it more than once a month.

I read a lot and STILL go 6 weeks between charges.
It depends a lot on what you do. If you just read, you get long battery life. But, every time you look up a word, make a bookmark, add a note, go back to the shelves, search for something, adjust the screen... UGH, those eat a lot of battery. Remember it's all based on how many times the screen has to update because THAT'S when it's using power.
Just adding a note saying "Heathcliff is SUCH jerk" is like turning 50 or 60 pages.

If it was within the last fourteen days, you're still in the return period. You could return it and wait for this to come in, if you're interested.

IMO the return policy is not abused if you're unhappy with your product for any reason, assuming you have not made it unsellable in some way (i.e. returning worn sneakers). That includes being unhappy because a new product came out from the same seller that you'd rather have. So, yeah, take it back and get the new one.

Read again...30 days @1/2 hr per day with glow light ON. 60 days with it off.
Or to put another way....15hrs with light on, 30hrs with light off.

I'm worried about battery life because according to BN own specs it's 60 days 1/2 hour/day, one page refresh/minute with light off.
The Nook Simple Touch specs says 60 days, 1 hour/day. 1 page refresh/minute.
So battery capacity is halved according to BN specs!
I hope that is a mistake! If not, it's a deal breaker for me! And I don't want it to be, because I really like the idea of a front-lit screen!

I couldn't agree more with Keriflur. I'm the productof a Jewish mother and the Catholic school system, so I know guilt!
And even I don't think returning a product because it's been superceded without advanced notice is an abusive. It's just correcting BN's failure. So go do it.

It didn't used to be. When the NST was first released last year, the two month battery life was based on 1/2 hour of reading per day. There are a large number of discussions about it floating around this forum. That was changed after the 1.2 update I believe, though it could have been changed after the 1.1 update. Sometimes I get timing confused. lol

Bleh. I guess if I was new to the concept of e-ink readers, I might be swayed to go for the Glow. But this isn't going to convince me to "upgrade" in the least. Most people I know are already either perfectly happy with their e-ink readers & using normal light sources to read them, or they have a backlit tablet.
Now, if the new NST actually had a functional shelving/organization system...
