THX, This worked for me too. I had the same error responses; I only had the username without the email extension. Once I added the email extension it WORKED.

I tried the settings suggested by golfdog54 and have no trouble receiving emails but am unable to send. I tried replacing SMTP with mail as suggested by furious10 but still no luck. I got the error msg "Setup could not finish - Unable to open connection to server"! I also was unable to enter username and password (got error that the name or password was incorrect!) with either SMTP or mail so I unchecked box for requiring sign-in. That may be causing my problem but I have tried all this multiple times including turning off and doing a hard reset and nothing works. I am certain I am entering the right email and password! I was able to send with a gmail account that I set up but I want to use my Bellsouth account! Please let me know if anyone has any other ideas.

No and I spent a good part of a day trying to set up my 2 Cox email addys. I finally gave up. I also have a Motorola Xoom and was unable to set up my Cox email. I could link it to my gmail but it won't let me save, etc.
I am going to stick to using my laptop and smart phone for viewing my Cox email. Too much of a hassle on the NC.![]()

KateJane,
I think I managed to get my NC to send out my bellsouth.net email. Like you, I successfully used golfdog54's info. so I could receive emails (and I thought outgoing worked as well, but it didn't). Our bellsouth pc accounts use the bellsouth servers. Apparently everything else gets routed either through att or yahoo. golfdog54s server addresses DO work. I thought his note about username and password only applied to the incoming server screen on the NC. It's required for both server setup screens. That's why we could receive but not send.
I checked my bellsouth account options on my pc and the OUTGOING server also requires authentication.
On your NC, open email, choose accounts, click on setting button for the bellsouth account. Click at bottom on outgoing server, then fill in full email address for user id, type in password carefully, and check off require sign-in button. Save. After I did this AND turned NC off and back on again--I was able to both send and receive emails. I tested it and it took 2 minutes from hitting send on my NC to my pc inbox receiving the test email.
I hope this helps.

This may be the easy way out, and I have not read every reply in this thread, but if you are getting a "server cannot finish connecting "or something to that effect, it is usually always because you 1) don't have the incoming or outgoing mail servers identified correctly, 2)you don't have the correct port settings, or 3) You may or may not have to have the "required sign on" box checked in the outgoing server settings.
Probably the easiest ways to find out what is correct for your particular e-mail account is contact the technical support for the e-mail provider. Mine told me in about 30 seconds what all the settings needed to be and it worked perfectly after that.
For my e-mail the incoming server started with imap, and used port 143, the outgoing was smtp and used port 25, and the "requires sign in" had to be unchecked. They told me I Could have also used a POP3 for my incoming but then the ports needed to change to other port settings.

An excellent alternate email option for rooted NC's (or any Android device) is K-9 Mail. I set it up as one of the first apps once I rooted my NC the other day.
I've used K-9 on my smartphone for over a year and find it very useful. I have it set to work with several email accounts - personal, work, client. It can be set to automatically check for email, or to only check "on demand." I tend to use the latter option as I'm frequently in front of my PC during much of the day.
I read somewhere that K-9 was developed by members of the original Google email development team, so it plays nicely with Andoid and Google and other POP3 and IMAP email options.

Another Frontier customer here, wondering about my email settings because I can't find where these "port" numbers come from. Nothing about them at Frontier.com and nothing about them in my current email client or in this thread. What gives, please?

nookgirlcd - Thanks so much for the suggestions. I was finally able to get it to accept my email and password in the outgoing settings but still no luck sending! :-( I also called Bellsouth tech support and got a very nice guy but all he could do was give me the same settings. At this point I think I will be patient and just hope that one day it will start working!! Seems to be no problem with gmail, hotmail, yahoo, etc.

Dear Golfdog54,
Thank you so much for the set-up instructions for bellsouth accounts. I got the settings from AT&T, then called B&N tech support 3 different times. All said it wasn't supported. I just followed your instructions and my emails popped right up on the screen. I'm grateful to you.

I have an acct., but I tried to set it up letting nook do it, it sent me to manual in the 2nd screen, and no matter what I check in the boxes, it won't accept my rr acct. Any help (especially not too technical) would be great!! Thanks

Golfdog54, you are my hero! Just spent 1.5 hours on the phone with tech support (being disconnected once) trying to figure out why my ATT email would not connect - useless! They suggested I set up a pretend email account with another provider, try that and then call them back before they would be able to give me any advice. After hanging up in disgust, I decided to give the blog a try and after playing around with your directions (despite the fact that I am not a BellSouth customer), I have complete success! Thank you, thank you.

Yep I hear ya Doreen. Even difficult to select each item for delete. Kepted going back into email. I had to slightly swipe the selection box to get the check mark to show up.

No other problems with email though. I actually called comcast for the info for incoming and outgoing servers and this defintively saved me a lot of time. I had huge issues setting up email with my Evo and eventually had to download K-9 email app to get my comcast email.

Anyone help with email setup in roadrunner.com for nook color? I have successfully set up outgoing server and sent a test message, so know I have the email address and smtp-server.roadrunner.com settings correct. But I keep getting the same error message about inability to connect with server for the incoming pop-server.roadrunner.com settings. (This problem occurs with either the 110 setting checked, or not.) Help most welcome!

I have tried everything to set up my email without any luck. The tech at B&N couldn't get it to work and my isp couldn't either. This is very frustating.
