As far as I know, you don't. Even though they're not stored on your device when archived, they still show up on the shelves.  It's another of the many inadequacies of the currest shelving system.

Thanks. In a round about way that's what I think I got from ST support although not actually saying it. It was a very 1984 email chat.

Basically you need to remember to remove it from any shelves before archiving it.  Worse, you could unarchive, unshelve, and re-archive.  Yecchh.

Or you could alwalys back up the book to a computer and then delete it outright.

Re: How do you remove archived books from shelves on the ST?

Actually the persistence of archived books on their assigned shelves could be viewed as a positive design feature. Considering how difficult it is to maintain shelves, persistence could be prefereable to having to reshelve after un-archiving.

It all depends on the circumstances. If you're never going to want to read the book again, you wouldn't want it to persist. If it's a temporary archiving, then you might. An option would be nice, but I'm not expecting that to happen considering all the more important pending software modifications. (Assuming any are pending -- a big assumption in this cricket-laden, one-sided relationship between customers and developers.)

Re: How do you remove archived books from shelves on the ST?

Thanks, it's a bit cumbersome but it may be the best way for the way I use my shelves.

I just like to take the next 5 books I plan to read out of my library and put them on a shelf that I call "Up Next". When I finish with a book I archive it. When I am on my last book of the 5 I load another 5 books onto my shelf. With my N1E my nook would sync up with my library and my read book would disappear off my shelf. Now, I just need to remove it off the shelf back into my library and archive it. It's not a big deal. Thanks for your help.

I have a similar question. I have a NST & a Nook Tablet. I was wondering if I set up shelves on one Nook, would it sync with the other? I don't want to have to do it twice.

Unfortunately shelving is local to each device.  It does not travel, and there is no way to set up shelves on one device and have them reflected elsewhere.

Repeated requests for this functionality have received no response or even acknowledgement.
