I think Microsoft will get first shot. In return for its investment of $300 million last year.

According to that story "internal documents" indicate that Microsoft had made an offer ~ nothing in the story indicates whether B&N will accept the offer.

Not sure who leaked the offer details.

Given B&N's position, and the 24% stock jump today, it's very hard for B&N to refuse the offer.

Perhaps B&N leaked the offer details to start a bidding war.

I found it really amusing that there were two reports of takeovers today.

1) MS taking over B&N's Nook for $1 billion.

2) Facebook taking over a company called Waze for $1 billion.

Waze = No Money at all. A free app with 45 million people who crowdsource maps.

Nook = $1 billion+ revenue per year.

I'm getting too old to understand how a free traffic crowdsourcing app that makes no money is worth the same as a company's unti which is generating $1 billion revenue a year.

I've been using Waze for less than a week and love it.

They pop up ads as you drive, so I guess that is their source of income.

You can't turn off your 3G connection because then the navigation won't work.

Given that FB is advertising driven, and the next big hurdle in social media is monetizing mobile users, I think Waze will be a pretty good acquisition for them.
