Re: what is DjVu

I had to look it up too.  Maybe it's not quite as popular as Zonderstrasse thinks it is... :smileywink:

[ Edited ]

"What To Read next" on the Home screen needs to be customizable. The way it is now, the novelty has already worn off after a couple of days of owning the device.

In Settings we should be able to check off which ones we would like to see cycled through:

B&N Top 100

New York Times Bestsellers

New Releases

Trending NOOK Books

Recommended

Top LendMe Books

Steals 'n' Deals

NOOK Friends

Or how about not have to be subjected to use a nook Simple Touch with Special Offers -_-

I kinda want my $25.

Re: [N2E] Wishlist for 1.1 Update

Just got the new nook and I am very happy with it. Just two suggestions.

Option to always have the clock at the top while reading.

And ability to share quotes from sideloaded books.

Re: [N2E] Wishlist for 1.1 Update

I simply can't stand the new nook's home screen. It's basically a shopping page. I don't want my home screen to say "what to read next." I also don't want a listing of what I recently downloaded. I just want the old "home" back with the wallpaper of my choice.

Also, I appreciated having sudoku and chess available from time to time on my nook. I can't believe this was removed especially with the new touch features.

Also, I liked having the daily columns to look at. That too was removed.

All in all, I am very disappointed in this new device. For all its new technology, it's heavy on marketing sales at bn.com and skimps on everything else. I am seriously considering returning the device and waiting until something better comes out.

Re: [N2E] Wishlist for 1.1 Update

Love my N2E, second some suggestions from the huge list above.

Must Haves:

1. Better PDF Reading: Zoom/ Pan

2. Optional Landscape Mode

3. option to display time while reading book

4. Currently reading: 3 books at least

5. Ability to add any book to shelves from the books, instead of going to shelves and searching each time

Good to Have:

1. Basic HTML browser to allow looking up more on books, or sites such as WIkipedia

2. More document types support: such as doc, txt, html

3. Book Cover for PDF's

4. Managing Shelves online.

5. Some very basic game apps specially leveraging the touch screen ability

The marketing and user guides made it quite clear that there were no games on this Nook model.  If that's what you wanted why did you buy the Nook 2?  Just wondering...

Re: [N2E] Wishlist for 1.1 Update

How about fixing the ghosting issue that results from the screen refreshing every few turns as opposed to refreshing on every page turn.  At least make it optional to turn this feature on/off.  The lack of refresh on every page turn leaves the outline of the text from the previous page you were reading and on bright conditions it is very noticeable.  I would expect this is given priority.

Other things I would like to see is for syncing to actually work between my NC and the n2E.  Syncing bookmarks and highlights would also be nice.

Landscape mode and PDF zoom and pan would be nice too, even though I don't rely on these things, I can see them being useful to a lot of owners.

I would like the dictionary to allow for browsing or at least input a word (like in the N1E) instead of limiting the search to the words in a book.  I don't know why they did away with that for the NC and the N2E.

But again:  PLEASE FIX THE GHOSTING!!!

Re: [N2E] Wishlist for 1.1 Update

I would like to have my wishlist sync between my nook and bn.com. I'm not sure why they removed this from the new nook and the nook color. I liked to browse books online and then just check my wishlist from my nook when I need to download a new book.

Please enable the browser and email features (it would be nice to get email thats related to the Nook2). I wish there was a way to delete the social feed.

Re: [N2E] Wishlist for 1.1 Update

I'll add a vote for being able to add a book to a shelf without having to scroll through the whole list. It could either be on the book itself like the original poster suggested or there could be a search option within the Edit Shelf tool. Either would make it so much easier.

I'll also add a vote for custom ordering of the shelves. I have the 1E nook and loved being able to put my To Read and Bookclub shelves at the top of the list.

One other request would be to add goodreads.com to the Social Networking options. It's such a great site for sharing books and I would love to be able to update my books directly from my nook.

+1 on adding Goodreads.  I tried to log in on my N2E through the search --> browser workaround but it kept crashing.  I'd love to see support for this.

Re: [N2E] Wishlist for 1.1 Update

Please make the built-in dictionary "clean" and "simple".

Allow us to modify the shelf that a book is in without going through the main library screen.

Some shelving improvements that come to mind (including some that others have already posted):

  • From the book detail view, bring up a shelf-placement screen, similar to the shelf editor. List the book title at the top, and display available shelves with checkboxes next to them.
  • Within the library view, the abilty to filter the current view based on shelf. For example, showing "All of My Books" on "History" shelf, or "Any Shelf", or "Unshelved" It would be handy to know which titles are not yet organized.
  • Within the shelf-edit screen ("Choose items for this shelf"), allow double-tapping on book title to bring up the book detail page. Single-tap can still toggle the checkbox.

More fundamentally, it would be great if you could expose the shelf mechanism when the Nook is connected to a computer, so other software (Calibre) could take advantage of it. Or even allow for us to shelve sideloaded content in a special directory structure on the external memory card. (Makes a directory called "My Shelves" with each sub-dir a shelf, and then books file within that, for example.) But this may be a larger shift. The bulleted recommendations should be doable without changing the file system -- they are just interface issues to make shelving less clunky.

Re: [N2E] Wishlist for 1.1 Update

my list (so far after just a couple of days):

1) text selection bug: have you tried selecting a word (e.g. to look up in the dictionary) that has wrapped across two lines?  doesn't work!  e.g. consider the following text:

"The EPUB format, from the International Digital

Publishing Forum, is an industry standard in-

tended to reduce these problems."

In that above passage, it is IMPOSSIBLE to select the word "intended".

2) as others have said, some way to look up arbitrary words (not just those appearing in the text of a book) would be nice.

3)  some way to please get content onto the device wirelessly-  either by emailing EPUB documents to an email address a-la-kindle, or adding documents via the NOOK desktop software having that somehow "push" the document to the NOOK.  If you have to charge a fee for this, make the fee a monthly "all you can eat" for $2.99/mo or something, not a pay-per-use.  But of course FREE would be the best.

Re: [N2E] Wishlist for 1.1 Update

1. One of the big things for me, is the ability to sort books within a shelf. I've been asking for that since the shelving system was introduced. Let's get to it B&N.

2. Small deal, but can you make an option where both page turn buttons on the left side go back a page, while both page turn buttons on the right go forward? I don't usually have to go back while reading, but sometimes hit the wrong button by mistake when I'm meaning to go forward.

3. I don't know if B&N means to officially support it, but the browser that's hidden on the N2E isn't to bad, though it could use a bit of work.

4. Can you add a button when reading to manually refresh the screen? Sometimes when going from the Home Screen to a book, or when a book has a big enough picture in it, significant ghosting can be left behind between flashes. I'm thinking there's enough room along the top when you tap the screen between the book title and various other info.

Re: [N2E] Wishlist for 1.1 Update

I love these suggestions!  I'd also like a way to back up books with the highlighting, notes and bookmarks intact. Someday this Nook will die and I will lose all my highlights, etc.  Or I will buy a new one before it dies and will have to download all my books again from the B&N site without the highlights, etc., which is what happened when I moved from N1E to N2E.  For me, this is the biggest issue.

Re: [N2E] Wishlist for 1.1 Update

I love the new Nook(N2E).

  • Option to place clock in the right corner when I am reading.
  • Prompt “add shelf” (and popup of shelves) when you download a new title.
  • Automatically make and add to folder with Author’s name (a second shelf option?).
  • More than one title in the ‘reading now” section of the home page.
  • Some indication the book has been finished.
  • Landscape option
  • Substitute my “Nook Wishlist” for “What to Read Next” and an option to touch to buy from that home page/list

I know the Social Networking piece is irritating to some. I like it. I have been following friends progress through books via facebook from the Kindle for a while now. Often I am asked via facebook what I am reading. This is a great addition!

Something to consider when the next Nook (N3E) comes out , please make a way to move our shelves to our new device easier. Rebuilding the shelves and then placing all my books back on them is more difficult as my library grows. I only had to shelve a 100 or so books. I can only imagine the amount of time those who have more books and shelves had to give to this change over.
