Nice to see that they're still supplying updates for the Nook Color.  Good on ya, BN.

Re: NC 1.4.3 update is out

Ok....I updated to 1.4.3 and prompty discovered that i couldn't open my (public) library books.  I remembered this happening before, and it took me a moment to remember how to solve the problem.

With the NC connected, open Adobe Digital editions on your PC.  ADE will prompt you to reauthorize the device.  Once authorized, i then had problems with the load tokens.  i copied the books from PC to NC again telling them to "replace" the files.  this worked fine.

Roustabout - I know I speak for many here and on other boards - we eagerly await your mod to the sys/build.prop file so we can stop the 1.4.3 OTA.

I am extemely satisfied with the 1.4.2 man nooter and do not see anything in 1.4.3 that I need.

From the sound of it, Zoom View will be a great addition to the Nook Comics.  Hopefully it works as well as I'm hearing it does.  Along with the update they've given us a ton of new comics to choose from too, including comics from DC and Red 5 (more Atomic Robo!!!), as well as a large selection of free comics, so that's even better.

Re: NC 1.4.3 update is out

Asleep at the switch, I was, and my NC just updated itself.  No doubt the tab is next on the list, and it's miles from here and plugged in - but with power save mode on, so hopefully won't pull the update over the air.  Except that I have a memory of recently telling it not to turn off the screen when plugged in, which may well mean "leave wifi on" also.

Now I need to reroot and do the build.prop business.  Best ETA for the flashable build.prop is maybe tomorrow night.

I have the NC and a microSD card here, but no adapter to put the card into my laptop so I can have my way with it.

I think I may do a minimal root as well, to reenable root for myself - most of my apps are installed at this point, including - win! - flipboard installed before BN updated me.

so this root would be "restore root access" kind of thing - it wouldn't get the Android market working, but it would fix any apps that are mucked up by not having root.

Re: NC 1.4.3 update is out

[ Edited ]

If you are rooted, do not want the update, and are comfortable with install files using Clockwork, I just threw together a 'fake' build.prop that will keep the update away.

http://www.mediafire.com/?6sos4y0z3sappj1  swaps in this build.prop and backs up your known working one;

http://www.mediafire.com/?qbc7kycx9b95eku  restores the one you started with, if this one is not letting you boot up.  I can't test these just now ...

It is much like the others, except I'm not able to test it since my device is already updated (oops) and I don't have a way to get it onto an sd card or boot into clockwork to test the script, but it's actually the same scripts as my last of these used - just with the updated build.prop inserted.

Install the 1.4.3 preserve file,  reboot, and you should be greeted with the little N telling you you've updated to the latest and greatest.

If your device will not boot, the restorebuildprop CWR file will copy back in the backup that the first script made.

Let me know if it doesn't work and I'll look to see what I missed.

Long instructions  are at http://nookworks.blogspot.com/2011/12/keeping-your-nc-at-12-or-13.html

Re: NC 1.4.3 update is out

So, if one is using the n2a card, is it advisable to remove the card before updating? Or is that not necessary? TIA

Re: NC 1.4.3 update is out

I've installed previous updates without a problem. I downloaded the new update and copied it over to my NC per the instructions. It started to install, but then stopped with a screen showing the android man with an exclaimation point. This screen stayed until I pressed the on/off button. Then there was an error message screen from Clockwork recovery saying something about invalid signature.

I don't know what Clockwork is an why it is stopping the installation.

I have tried to reinstall and even downloaded a new copy to install, I get the same message. Any suggestions?

Re: NC 1.4.3 update is out

rdut,

Do not use CWM to install the B&N update. Just plug your NC into your PC usb port and copy the file into NookColor drive/folder that will appear. Then start or wake up your NC and let it go to sleep (do not force it to sleep). It should update itself.

CWM is only for installing ManualNooter 5.2.19, CM7, repartitioning, CM7, etc.

Re: NC 1.4.3 update is out

I did not use Clockwork. I've never used clockwork. I don't know how it got on my NC. I've used  dual boot sd card from AFN and one from Nook for Android, but neither is supposed to install anything to emmc.

The sd cards were removed before installing the new update.  How would I go about removing CWM?

Re: NC 1.4.3 update is out

Hmm, not familar with the dual boot card from AFN.

You can restore your NC to stock using this thread

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=931720&highlight=return+to+stock

Then apply the update after registering your NC. You need to make backups of your sideloaded data first.

I'm rooted using the manualnooter 5.2.19, running NC 1.4.2. Do I just let the update happen? Or will I have to go through the rooting process again? I'm not overly technical, I just follow instructions in order they are given and hope they are in english. :smileyhappy:

Thank You Roustabout!  Worked perfectly.

Compulsive.  Do not let your Nook update to 1.4.3.  You will lose root.

Take the two zip files from Roustabout and via your PC drag and drop them on the SAME SD card you made to install Man Nooter 5.2.19.

Turn your Nook off and insert the SD card with Roustabout's files.  Reboot your Nook.  Select the option to install zip from SD Card.  Toggle and select the 1.4.3-perserve.prop.zip.  Select yes to install.  It takes 2 seconds.  Click the power button on the side once should take you back to the main menu.  Select Re-Boot Nook.  STOP.  Remove SD Card.  Now, press the 'n' and your Nook will re-boot.

Your Nook now shows you are on version 1.4.3.  But you are really on 1.4.2.  You now won't get the update OTA.

Re: NC 1.4.3 update is out

Thanks bluepen61. I followed the instructions on the link you provided and everything works great. It also got rid of the CWM that came out of nowhere.

Again, thanks for the help.

rdut,

It is good that it worked out! That is the interesting thing about the NC. It is so versatile.

This may explain how Clockwork arrived at your device and a solution:

It depends on what "Zoom view" means ~ if its either tap to zoom or an ability to pinch to zoom to zoom and then lock the zoom across page turns, it would be quite helpful. In my experience, the Nook Comics reader is better for manga than anything except panel by panel guided view, and much better than most of the various online manga readers (JManga, Shonen Jump alpha, YenPlus, etc) ... except for the limited selection of guided view titles in JManga ... but a an ability to either get to the right zoom level after a page turn or leave it zoomed in through page turns would make it even better.

No way in hades I'm going to duck out on the upgrade. I'll just root is again after its done.
