Given how vehemently against screens smaller than ~10 inches Steve Jobs was (I belive his exact words were something along the lines of "we don't want our customers to have to file their fingers down to be able to use the screen") I always take that specuation with a massive grain of salt.

Granted, we're beyond the Jobs era, so it's possible. I just don't see it as likely.

I agree with you.  If anything, I think it was a leak designed to make Amazon worry.  If the Kindle File's sales continue to chip away at Apple's tablet dominance, we may someday see an iPad with an 8" display, but I'd be surprised if we saw it this year.  They would have had to have it in the development pipeline while Jobs was still around and I don't think that's something he would have allowed.

I still think the smaller displays people keep thinking that Apple is testing are for an advanced remote for the TV set they are supposed to have out this year.  It may even have some streaming capabilities for video or something for when you leave the room or something.

As far as what Steve Jobs said about smaller screens...well he is no longer with the firm and it is now being run by an Ops guy not a creative guy.  The Ops guy is probably thinking of different ways to leverage the franchise. Also, there are millions of isheep using the small touch screens on the iPhone and iPod touch so I don't think customer fingers are really an issue.

A smaller Ipad could actually be good for the Fire or NT because there would be an easier value comparison since the sizes would be similar.  Apple would probably price around $350 so folks would just have to figure if it is worth the extra $ given its pluses (GPS, cameras, Apple) and minus (no storage expansion)

But on balance I really doubt the smaller iPad idea at least in the near future.  They already will be selling all the iPad 3 they can make if it comes with 4G connectivity and retina display

Sale still ongoing. My ebay watch list shows 6500 still available. Could be New Nook is coming sooner than anticipated? Could it also be totally blocked to android? Did notice the is a new N2A card for the tablet released last week.

Can't decide whether to purchase tablet or not, do have NC with N2A card now.

Not to sway you intentionally  but the NT is lightyears beyond the Color. BN will downplay this, after all the same Co makes both 

Processer speaking, as well as memory, you will notice a *dramatic* improvemt in overall speed of apps, and reading. Basically, most of the one star reviews in the app store are from nook color owners who cannot figure out why their apps are so slow, or have tech issues.

At 199 its a no brainer. Sell your color on craigslist or ebay for 150 +.
