Apparently it is online as being available, however, they seem to have forgotten the hyperlink on "click here"
Hopefully it is up later today. I am looking forward to an update as I hope that it will fix some of the bugs that seem to be prevalent on most Nook Simple Touches.

Hopefully they'll update the details, too, as there's nothing new actually listed in the "what's in 1.1" menu. Just a bunch of sales shpiel about the standard N2E features...

It seems as though the update will allow quicker page turns. According to CNET and Endgadget, it will refresh at 450 ms compared to Kindles 600 ms. Also, no browser still. Still have the psuedo-one, that really is non-functional.
This text comes from the CNET live coverage of the unveiling this morning of the nook tablet.

I wonder what ongoing enhancements mean? How can it be ongoing if it is a one time update?

I certainly hope there is a whole lot more added than just 'quicker page turns'.
Shelving is unusable currently, and books purchased on the device can't use the storage card.

It sounds like all the improvements on the Nook Touch are software-based improvements resulting in faster page turns, battery life, etc. Does that mean there is no new model coming out and current N2E's can be made current? Is this correct?

I have read some of the rumor mills, suggesting that there are new Nook Simple Touches that have new screens. From all that I have read via CNET and Endgagdet, it seems like that was just a rumor. The software update is everything necessary to make it current as far as I have read.

Not to jump in with the premature bitching, but I have to say it. I am really, REALLY NOT going to be happy if that's all there is in the update. It's already a speed/battery monster. I don't NEED a friggin "improvement" of battery life and page turn speed. Are they even LOOKING at all of the feedback of people who are unhappy with the shelves and lack of pdf zoom? COME ON, BN.

I was hoping they'd address the screen freezing issue. Doesn't sound like it. And despite resetting to factory defaults and starting over, mine still opens random books I've not even opened yet, loses my place, and only shows the last purchases at the top of the list in Most Recent view, never what I last has open, so I have to go hunting when it opens the wrong book. Was really hoping for solutions to these issues.
There is something wrong with your sw install if you are seeing this on a recuring basis.
The only time I have seen anything remotely similar is when I accidently disconnected my nook from the pc without using safely remove or eject. Even then it only affected one sideloaded book. The fix was to remove the affected book from the device and sideload it again.
I would try unregistering and re-registering the nook one more time. If that doesn't fix the issue I would ask for a replacement.

That #4- "Ongoing enhancements and other performance improvements" gives them a lot of latitude to cover (or not) all sorts of things, shelving among them. Let's keep our fingers crossed.
Anyone been able to download the update yet and try it out?

These items have been requested since day one of the N1E, I've about given up on B&N actually listening to what we want. It can't be that difficult to do since the Sony line has been able to do all this for their last 3 model series. I recieved a Sony at the same time I received my N1E (day 1 version) and it can do all of the above.

It does it all the time. If I forget to go back to the home page and just close the cover when I'm done reading it nearly always opens a different book, or it will be on a completely different page from where I left off. No kids here...I'm home alone all day so it isn't that someone's playing with it (which was my first thought...who's touching my Nook?!? But there's no one but me here all day). Nook ghost maybe? I have already done the reset thing twice so I've started reading on my Galaxy Tab instead. Crummy battery life and heavy, but at least it works properly.
This is not a common problem. You really should replace your Nook!

Go to your nearest BN, call customer support or private message BN_AlexG on this website.
They may ask you to try the update first but BN should replace that device as being defective.

It's your case. Mine did the same thing---it has a flap that sticks out a little too much and it was always selecting something I didn't want. Don't shut the case and see if it still happens or just lock your nook before you shut the case.
*edit: missed a word...
