I've bouth my nook tablet in June 2011 in the US and was quite happy with it. I live in Canada and never had any problems bying e-books or apps. But now I am suddenly no longer able to purchase anything, as I don't have a US billing address. Customer Service just told me that they changed their requirements and a US billing address is now needed. They might change it again, but couldn't give me an indication on when this is gonna happen. This is rather annoying and I regret having bought a nook tablet. :smileysad:

Re: Nook Tablet in Canada

I am a US citizen with a US account. We plan to travel in Canada, using free wifi points like Starbucks to get our email etc. Will we have any trouble getting on the web in Canada. We have a Tablet running 1.41. We don't plan to download any books (although it would be nice to kow if we could).

Thanks,

It's my understanding that you should have no problems connecting to the internet nor purchasing books in Canada.  The problem arrises when the credit card and/or address aren't in the US.

Re: Nook Tablet in Canada

This is terrible.  To have the store available to Canadians with a Canadian CC/mailing address, and then suddenly pulling the plug is terrible business.  I don't recall receiving as much as an email about this change.

It doesn't matter how much I liked the hardware initially (my wife and I each have one), this device is basically useless now.  Like a book with blank pages, it's just a paper weight.

Canadians, stay away from Nook readers! Buy something that's available in Canada.

Re: Nook Tablet in Canada

I wasn't aware that B&N had any stores outside of the US.  So, I can only assume you are referring to purchasing physical items from the B&N website.  Unfortunately, digital media is treated differently than physical media.  Some of us think that it shouldn't be fundamentally different, but the law is the law.

Re: Nook Tablet in Canada

I think the difference for international sales is that physical media can be controlled through customs, taxes and duties collected etc. Digital media bypasses all that. It seems as though many folks think a company can just decide to start selling in another country and do it. There are laws etc that have to be dealt with and from what I've read the buy Canadian law ( not sure that's the exact name) really restricts foreign countries ability to sell in Canada .

They aren't useless because you can side load any epubs other than those from Apple. I would purchase books from kobo and read them. When I purchase a product and find out that it doesn't work exactly as I thought it would then I do some research and find out how to work around it if possible.

Re: Nook Tablet in Canada

Deregister your Nook.

Re-register it and provide a US address.

NOTHING to do with billing.

Just to do with their ability to sell you content that is restricted to US residents.

YOU do not actually have to live there.

It does have to be a valid residential address.

Re: Nook Tablet in Canada

:cathappy: I'm Canadian and I was thinking of buying thr Nook Color for christmas, but after reading this thread I'm not so sure. So basically when you re-register you change your address to an American one, than leave your billing address as Canadian. So you will be able to sync your nook color to the ebook and application purchases you have made? Is that correct? I just want to know if it will work. I can just  use my aunt's address lol .

Re: Nook Tablet in Canada

It's working for me using the method outlined above i.e. US address with Canadian billing address.

You can also buy gift cards at B&N and then use those. Or you can use some provider like Kobo to buy your ebooks and use Adobe Digital Editions software to load books on to your Nook.

There's a new sale - www.nook.com. So you can get Nook Tablets cheaper now.
