Problem Highlighting More Than One Word

Hi there - I am currently reading a book on my NOOK Tablet, and I can't seem to highlight more than one word in the ebook.  I long-press and then try dragging, but what that does is simply highlight individual words under where my finger is instead of the whole sentence.  How do I highlight more than one word?  I appreciate any help!

Re: Problem Highlighting More Than One Word

I too have been perplexed by the highlighting process.  I have found that if you touch the first or last word in the section you want to highlight, you will get two small "handles" that you can drag to select and highlight the text.  That works most, but not all of the time.  I have also found that highlighting text works pretty well, but that it is difficult to highlight headings.  Sometimes it helps to increase the font size.

In one case, I resorted to using the Nook app on my laptop to do the highlighting becuase I could not get the Nook Tablet to select the text I wanted.

Thank you so much!  I didn't know about the "handles."  Now that I've experimented a little bit, I have more questions.  How can you delete a note without deleting the accompanying highlighted text?  Also, under Content --> Notes & Highlights, I only see the option to "Clear all" notes and highlights.  Is there a way to delete individual notes and individual highlights rather than everything?

I haven't tried deleting notes.  But, when you touch a highlighted passage, you should get an option to delete the highlighting or change the color.

Re: Problem Highlighting More Than One Word

I discovered that if you want multiple words you can first drag to another line and then it is easier to slide backwards to the last word you want rather than trying to start with the first word and slide to the last work directly.

To precision highlight, long press on the first word you want highlighted, then lift your finger up, then place back on the highlighted word and drag the highlight as far as you want.

I've figured that much out, but I  never seem to be able to highlight the last character on a line. Not a big deal but mildly annoying.

I also can't highlight a continuous block of text that spans multiple pages. Is that normal?

Thanks, Eustace2!  Your suggestion works like a charm.

Re: Problem Highlighting More Than One Word

I've been wrestling with this for a long time ... I thought I was just not being patient or precise ... THANKS!  I will try this now.  I just went out an bought a "capacitative stylus" because I thought my finger pads were too big, even being a lady, but it behaved no differently....

Okay,  I just tried your suggestion, and although it doesn't work like MS Word, it work if you "hold your mouth right".  THANK YOU for the help!

You better not say that too loud. Lest the 'iDevices are perfect and so amazingly intuitive' police arrest you.

For the 'How to remove notes without removing highlight. I haven't found any good solution. I just go in and change the note to a blank space or a single letter.

Tap on the highlight that the note is associated with.  You should get an option to View Note, Edit Note, Remove Note, Remove Highlight or change color of highlight.

Re: Problem Highlighting More Than One Word

Yay!  I am now highlighting with ease.  So can someone tell me about the way the Nook HD+ can tear a piece of article and scrapbook it?

Re: Problem Highlighting More Than One Word

1) Scrapbooking is supported on some magazines and not all.

2) If the magazine supports scrapbooking, then when you tap the center of the screen on a page to get the menu, there will be a small scissor icon at the bottom left (in the bottom bar).

3) tap that.

4) You'll get the option to add the page to an existing scrapbook or to a new scrapbook.

I'm not sure how to scrapbook part of an article. Perhaps to zoom in and then do the above steps.
