I have an original Nook with software 1.7 and I wanted to give a try at rooting it. I went on NookDevs site but the instructions look a lot more complicated than rooting my current Nook Color. Is there a way to boot from an SD card on the original Nook?
Thanks for any help.
Jess

Wow, I'd never looked hard at the rooting guides for n1e. It does look quite a bit more complex than the NC, NT or NST root methods do, and as a guess I'd say it's down to the device not reading the sdcard first at start time as the others do.
If my guess is right, then it probably can't boot from an sdcard and there's probably not a method that's as simple as with the other devices.
One thing I'd read about n1e modification in general is that software for it is challenging to write, becuase you have to take into account not just the buttons but two completely different displays - different resolutions and only one also acting as an input surface.

I don't believe so, but you might want to ask in the Nook 1st edition section of the forums.
Acer Iconia A500 (two): Android 4.0.3 rooted;; Nook Color: B&N 1.4.3 rooted
Nook Touch (two): B&N 1.2.1 rooted; Nook 1stEd/3G (two): B&N 1.7.0 rooted.
Customer loyalty is earned, not commanded or deserved, and easily lost.
Nothing is foolproof, because fools are so ingenious. Same for rooters.

The answer is no. Rooting 1.7 is hit or miss. That is why I am still on the rooted version of 1.5. Nook Dev's has moved on and development on the Ne1 is basically dead.
