Texting From Your Nook Color

I figured if I'm using my NC as a mobile Internet device, it'd be nice if it can text....and then I discovered that it can.  Just bookmark this website:  www.txtdrop.com .  It comes up fast on the NC and lets you text to most (but not all) cell phones....and receive replies on the email address that you specify!

Re: Texting From Your Nook Color

Isn't those kind of sites a way to get cell numbers to spam all your friends with?

Was always dubious of free service web sites.

That's what I was thinking. I actually went to the site, entered our daughters area code and froze, thinking "what are you doing, giving Dr. Lisa's business cell number to this site?" I think i. will just e-mail her.

Re: Texting From Your Nook Color

From the txtdrop website:

" Is TxtDrop going to sell my email, number, friends number or any of my info?

No, TxtDrop will not sell or share any information gathered through this site or our widget, and we only gather the info necessary to send messages."

Actually, a little research seems to show that TxtDrop is one of the more reputable online texting services.....and no, I have no connection to them.

Well good to know they are one of the scarce few and most sell your body & soul in a heartbeat!

Re: Texting From Your Nook Color

If you arealready using webmail in some way shape or form, most all ajor cell phone carriers will route txt to a phone via an email.

Verizon for example:  If you email [phonenumber]@vtext.com it works the same as texting the person.  when they reply to the text, it goes back to your email.

This is true.

Also, if you use Google Voice, typing "t" opens a texting window.

Re: Texting From Your Nook Color

I just tried txtDrop.com awhile ago. I tried a couple of times to send a text to my phone and waited almost 2 hours and didn't receive them. So the sight is either really slow, or it's not working right now.

And you believe it because they say so in the FAQ? I'm sorry. I guess I'm not as trusting as you. To me that like McDonalds saying in their FAQ that there food is good for you.
