Re: What Nook Apps Would you Like?

The compact dictionary will be the one with the fewest uncommon words. For example, there won't be any words that begin with "X" since the list of six letter "X" words is really crazy. Compact has also been set to default.

Expanded is the very same dictionary that shipped with the original version of the game and Normal is the middle point that bridges to two ends of the spectrum.

Re: What Nook Apps Would you Like?

about ready to give up on this.  testing last night with new update and  i click Resign(3) and it goes to a page where the words from the previous puzzle are supposed to appear in the box.  they don't, nor do the Menu, Next Round, Game Summary buttons work so the game is hung at this point.  i emailed support.  also, where is the save game feature?   it never asks to resume a save or start a new game when i load it for the first time.

and i know i sorta hijacked this thread on this app but Ryan is right here and my son has a horrible time with words at school.   but, he likes to play this and i'm hoping (praying) it will start working correctly so he'll continue to play it and improve at school.  thanks everyone.

Well, I think you're asking some really good questions, so keep it up.

Re: What Nook Apps Would you Like?

I got a few reports about this and we are looking into the issue currently. I'll update everyeone again when we narrow down the problem.

We're all sorry for the troubles with the game, we are committed to getting Word Twist right and are working to find solutions.

Word Twist Update:

We believe we have found the issue and will be releasing another update for Word Twist as soon as we are able to.

The current problem shouldn't affect people who have purchased the game brand new since after the update was launched. The problem should only happen to people who updated the app.

When we post the new update, the problem with the buttons freezing should be fixed for those experiencing the problem.

Again, we are sorry this problem happened and feel horrible about it, but we are committed to having Word Twist work as expected and be a fun game for everyone.

Ryan,

I doubt that if you're demonstrating a committment to fixing problems that arise, that you'll find too many folks here who want to string you up :smileywink:, just because there are some inconveniences along the way.  Not too many expect perfection, but we do expect that problems will be addressed, and in a timely fashion.  And that users will be kept in the loop.  In those regards, we're frequently disappointed by B&N.

Re: What Nook Apps Would you Like?

The fix should be out soon. I wish I could give you an exact time, but that depends on the release cycles of the app store. Early next week is our best estimate. As always, I'll keep you updated as I know more.

[ Edited ]

well, here's my thoughts:  you never get a second chance to give a first impression.

another game just came out called CINCO.  it's horribly broken (anyone hear of quality control?) but the developer has been responsive, just like ryan.  now, toy studio is a slightly different story as they broke their app trying to improve it but folks will now be thinking twice about "trying" future games from these guys.  it's a cruel world out here but like i said,  first impressions usually last a long time.  your only salvation is to fix this app right and do it right now, the next app better not be broken, and time.  ryan, you've been great but the damage (for now) might have already been done.

<EDIT>

"Early next week is our best estimate"

ug, i just read this...i thought it would be today, oh well

Re: What Nook Apps Would you Like?

I have not lost faith with Toy Studio. There have been other broken apps that we did not get any help from the developers on. I agree it is frustrating to buy an app and have it not work. But at least we have pretty much been kept informed about fixes and the fact that they listened when people complained about the odd words. Maybe im just more patient but im willing to give them time to fix something.

Re: What Nook Apps Would you Like?

From what I've gathered and others have said, the problems have been ironed out with WordTwist with the newest update that released yesterday :smileyhappy:

We also launched two new apps. One is a Scientific Calculator (our first non-game app!) and the other is Battling Ships. These games are a direct result of the input everyone has had in this thread about wanting some utility apps and more games that involve strategy. If anyone has used or played with either one, let me know what you think or what suggestions you have!

Re: What Nook Apps Would you Like?

-> Battling Ships

got this cuz i could afford it ( :smileyvery-happy: ) and it's ok and i only say ok because the graphics could be better.  the brown tint doesn't conjure up images of sea battles.  the on screen ship representations seem blurry.  the hit or miss dialogue that pops up has very sharp ship images, it would be nice if those were the images you moved around the board.  and finally, the red targeting recticle you use to fire is cool, but it's in stark contrast to the bland (ugly) X you put on the board to mark a miss.  the fire for a hit is ok, but it would be better if it look more like an explostion.

change the game to navy/battleship/sea battle colors, improve the ship images so they are in sharp contrast to the board, and change that X to something more appealing.

you asked! :smileyvery-happy:

I did!  :smileytongue:

The reason we went for the visual style we did is because we felt other games inspired by the classic paper and pencil game went for the high-tech approach. We wanted to differentitate our version, so we went for a steampunk visual style. The Fog of War and Survival modes were also born out of the idea that we wanted to put a new spin on the classic game.

i guess i'm too old to know what steampunk has to do with this but if nothing else, i 'll settle for changing those X's to something more appealing to the eye.

OVERDRIVE! It would make downloading library books so much easier. Does B&N think that library books steal their income?
