Why are there Posts on Books and Specific Apps Here?

[ Edited ]

Not to be a curmudgeon. But!

Isn't this section for and about Nook Color Device?

Don't we have specific sections for Books, Lend Me,etc.

And specific section for Apps related software?

Sorry but hate to see specific groups being waterdowned with non-related chitter-chatter!

Well, it is "General Discussion". The Nook Apps section is subtitled "NOOK Apps FAQ's and Troubleshooting", and the other subforum is "NOOK Color Support: Connectivity, Hardware, and General Support FAQ's.

Now, there are other boards, and if the forum system supported placing subforums in multiple forums, I'm sure that posts on books and Lend Me would be more likely to end up in the right place ... but lots of people seem to just have this particular board bookmarked, and if they have a question on something they are doing with their Nook Color, they reckon it fits under "General Discussion".

Your expectations are too high.  So are mine.  :smileywink:

Also, unlike most non-commercial boards which have volunteers that love to police (I use this term in its positive context) message boards and move threads to their proper locations, the moderators here probably have other responsibilities for their 8-hour workday, and this is a pretty active board.  Combine that with the fact that for many Nook purchasers, the boards here are often their first introduction to Internet message boards.

While the "lack of thread discipline" can be frustrating to us old-timers, I bdoubt there is anything that can be done, other than the occasional suggestion to new users.

Samsung Garnet Red Galaxy Tab2 (7.0"): Android 4.1.1 rooted
Acer Iconia A500: Android 4.0.3 rooted;; Nook Color: B&N 1.4.3 rooted
Nook Touch (two): B&N 1.2.1 rooted; Nook 1stEd/3G (two): B&N 1.7.0 rooted.
Customer loyalty is earned, not commanded or deserved, and easily lost.
Nothing is foolproof, because fools are so ingenious. Same for rooters.

Re: Why are there Posts on Books and Specific Apps Here?

Thanks for the replies!

Yep just so tired of seeing Hunger games and Lend Me please,etc... posts. When there are specific sub-forums for exactly that type of subject. Whether it's specific books or genre to lend me request. And everything about Apps section.

It's Like peopled are just to lazy or it's to much trouble thinking maybe I should look at all the sub-forums and see where my post should be appropriately placed. Or the rules or forum etiquette doesn't apply to me.

Except someone who comes to the Nook Color boards will not see any sub-forum for Hunger games or Lend Me please, and if they take the board descriptions seriously will not necessarily use the Apps section for most of the apps discussion that takes place. The Apps sub-forum description is part of what drives Apps discussion to the General Discussion sub-forum, and then the fact that no discussion is taking place in the Apps sub-forum entrenches the use of the General Discussion sub-forum for that.

"too lazy to" and "didn't think that" is itself lazy thinking regarding the situation facing a user who is new to an online bulletin board layout. Its not at all obvious that there are specific subforums for discussions of specific ebooks and for Lend Me discussions, since the organization is a two level organization, and those sub-forums are not visible from the main Nook Color fourm. If you assume they are somewhere else and go looking for them, you will find them, but there is no explicit information or hints that they are there.

So someone who enters the main Nook Color forum and explores will see that kind of discussion taking place in the General DIscussion sub-forum, and while your expectations are that kind of discussion goes somewhere else, there is ZERO INFORMATION available suggesting that in the Nook Color forum itself.

Which is what I was saying: if the Nook Color forum included both Nook Color specific sub-forums and also listed the main cross-device subforums, then it would only take a modest amount of intervention along the lines of "(note: this post was moved from the Nook Color General Discussion sub-forum to the Lend Me sub-forum)" for people to get out of the habit of posting those topic in this sub-forum.

Obviously the exact same cross-platform sub-forums would also be placed in the list of Nook Tablet sub-forums.
