overdrive app

Okay, I've mentioned this on the general discussion board, but since we now have an official apps page I thought I would being it up again here. I would really like to have the OverDrive app! I'm not trying to sound upset, but I'm tried of seeing all these kiddie apps. I mean really! Who buys kiddie apps and then lets their 2 year old play with your very expensive ereader. I think of all the possible apps out there to be add a reading app seems to me to be the best choice. Please, no more games or kiddie apps until overdrive is added. Thank you!

Re: overdrive app

I don't know anything about overdrive, but you get my full agreement on the kiddie apps! I just checked the app store and the count went from 166, to 181. So i looked for new apps, and apparently they're all Berenstien Bears books. SERIOUSLY? No, really, SERIOUSLY? I would like an EQ so that the excellent mp3 utility would sound it's best, and movies would sound better. After that how about surprising me with some "wow factor" grown up apps. Sorry if i hijacked the thread - rant over.

Re: overdrive app

I contacted overdrive shortly after getting my nook color for Mother's Day. I have the Overdrive app on my iPhone and want it for my Nook. Overdrive responded - quickly I might add - that they are in process of getting one into the nook apps. I'm just trying to be patient.

Re: overdrive app

I too would like to see the Overdrivev Media Console app available on my Nook Color, especially after reading this Library Journal tweet:  http://www.libraryjournal.com/lj/home/891000-264/overdrive_releases_windows_phone_app.html.csp

Any ETA on the app B&N?

Let fly the Jolly Roger if none can be found to sell me red rum >=D!

Note to self: "red rum" backwards spells murder =S...
Is there a message in that? Idk *shrug*

Re: overdrive app

Um... I'm happier without it?

I mean, the Overdrive app would automatically return my borrowed "books" when the load date was over. As it is, using ADE means I keep the book as long as I want, so long as I don't connect my NC with ADE again. Right? That's... a good thing, yes?

Here, it can no longer be opened once it hits the return date. It isn't removed from my NC, but it can't be opened, even if I haven't connected again with ADE.

Re: overdrive app

I whole heartly agree with the need for more adult applications similar in the depth / breadth of iPhone applications. Overdrive and Dropbox would be a start. If B&N would just allow a "jail broken" android device we would have a whole host of choices. Any contacts at B&N that takes these discussions seriously? I suggest that B&N host / facilitate  local user groups in their stores around the country so that we can lean from on another but there was a dead silence / blank stare from the tech guy. He also had no idea of how to set the wallpaper of if you could print from your Nook Color. B&N has a long way to go before maturing and learning to manage multiple marketing channels. You are correct people that buy a expensive reader have greater expectations that a few flat games.

Re: overdrive app

It's especially irritating because there is already and Overdrive app for Android devices.

Re: overdrive app

I just posted this on Technical section, but it seemed appropriate here.

"I have installed Overdrive on Nook Color.  I can download free books from Overdrive in ePub format.  However, when I check out (download) a book from my public library, it is downloaded in acsm format which requires me to go to my computer and download it through Adobe Digital Editions.

We travel a lot and I thought I would be able to leave my laptop at home.

Any suggestions?"

Re: overdrive app

The acsm file is not the book in a different format.  It is just a link used to allow the downloading of the library book into ADE and then to the quthorized Nook.

Are you using a rooted NC?  You may be able to use Aldiko to get the books directly on your NC.

I found this by searching "library books and aldiko"

"To get a public library e-book, protected by Adobe DRM, into Aldiko, follow these steps:

  • enter your Adobe credentials into Aldiko
  • now, download the .acsm file for for the book from your library (this is not the book, just a key that will let Aldiko access the book)
  • then, copy that file to your SD card
  • next, fire up Astro File Manager (it's available in the Android Market), locate your .acsm file, and tap on it
  • if you've already entered your Adobe credentials into Aldiko, the book will be automatically downloaded and added to your shelf"

you can find info at:  aldiko.com

Re: overdrive app

Please develop a real app for OverDrive since I have had a terrible time helping new Nook color owners try to set up their Nook color with the Library's OverDrive system.  The Adobe Digital Editions is so unusable if one little mistake is made in setting it up.  I takes a long time to help people and our older library users really have trouble with working will all of the different steps.  The entire process should be on one Nook app with the Adobe Digital Editions included in this app.  If one does not set up the Adobe Digital Editions account first before downloading the the software, you can not start using the Nook software as soon as it is downloaded since it will not accept the password that you have set up.  Please, this frustration does not help your product.  I like my personal Nook Color, but please make the OverDrive System easier to use on the Nooks.

Re: overdrive app

Any news on when this app will become available? I would love to be able to download and read library books directly to my Nook Color without having to transfer them over from my PC.

Re: overdrive app

Me too! I have to sneak my NC to work and drag and drop when no one is looking. I don't have internet at home. (I live in a rural area).

Re: overdrive app

In some training by Overdrive today they mentioned this app and said it was available.  Now we just have to figure out how to find it.

Re: overdrive app

I saw it on the Android Market, but couldn't download and install it since I just have a stock NC. If you find out how to get it please let us know!  I love reading library books on my NC =)
