screen saver idea

I was just thinking that it would be nice if there was an option to show the cover of the book you are currently reading as your screen saver.  I find with dead-tree versions people you don't know will come up and ask you a the book if they see it lying on your table and I kind of miss that; this might be a good compromise for that loss.

Re: screen saver idea

Somebody has done this over on the XDA forums. It requires root, of course. Unfortunately, there's no official B&N app store for the NST/NSTG, so I don't believe there's a way to make it generally available.

AFAIK there's nothing wrong with linking to that topic on XDA. In case anyone is sufficiently interested.

Sort of like the recommendations panel on the home screen! :smileyhappy:

Of course, you can always load up a folder with the covers of books you like people to think you're reading.

Re: screen saver idea

This is what I do on my Nook. I do a Google image search for the cover I need, then resize it to 600x800 (using Photoshop, but there are other options). Then I put it in a folder for that specfic book in the Screensaver folder. Every time I turn off the Nook, it displays the cover of the book I'm reading. Works like a charm. Sounds like a lot of effort, but usually only takes a minute or two.

Re: screen saver idea

I thought the point of having a nook was so that I could read Naughty Nurses without anyone knowing.

I used the have the following wallpaper/screen saver on my Nook Color, and then go to the B&N in-store Nook help sessions.

Now I use the one below on my color screen devices:

On my e-Ink models, I use the one below (extracted from the N1E), with my name/address/contact info added:

You could complete the deception by sticking it in one of those covers made from an actual book. I bet getting Oberon to customize one of their designs to look like the Necronomicon would get rid of those pesky shoulder surfers!

I was thinking I might just go with the screensaver of Dean's cat.

I asked the cat involved, and he has given you permission.  He likes the publicity:

LOL, he's definitely got that mouse problem under control.  I wish I could get mine to use a scratching post.

Looks like this is a recurring theme. Some of these have shown up in various book cover threads before.

Hmm. The image resizing options don't seem to work. Apologies if these are too large!

Re: screen saver idea

Back a while ago I downloaded a recurrent picture of a Sony T1. I wonder if there´s one for the Nook ST, I found one of the original...

I suppose I could always fill it with my album collection.  Some of them might not adapt that well to black & white.
