Hi all,
I am Maple from a town in rural Alaska. The Lace Reader is an excellent read. I read it as part of my book group a couple of months ago. The discussion was so lively, and we didn't even have time to explore many facets of the story. I look forward to getting a chance to discuss it further.

I'm Pumpernickel and I already have the book, but this is summer here in Brazil ( I'm from enormous, chaotic São Paulo, that I adore , despite all the pollution and bad traffic ) and I'll be away on the beach from January,10th till January, 20, but I'll be here for the beginning of the discussion, which I hope will be very engaging .
Why I chose The Lace Reader ... Well , basically for 3 reasons : Because I really liked the story line, because I am ON VACATION -- Yay !!! -- so I can choose what to read AND because fave bookstore here happened to have it !!! (^.^) Heh...
(0.0) Oh, not always can I participate in these discussions cuz it takes a lot of money & time to bring the books from the USA !!!

Hi Pumpernickel:
Haven't seen your name around for along time. Remember you and I were gonna read one of Rosamond Pitcher books the summer you broke your leg or ankle, can't remember which and it was my summer as I remember you telling me you have different seasons as we do in the states. I hope all has been going well with you and you are probably back full pledged teaching now. right? It was so nice to see your name. It was on the old b&N university that we first met and you sent me pictures of your home place in Brazil. I still remember them. See you later. I know this book will be good. so glad you will be here reading also.

Hello!
I'm Kelly from Colorado and am very much looking forward to delving into this book. I love novels that use history to develop the story line. Also, the supernatural flavor of the book reminded me of stories like The Sixth Sense, which is a little different from the fiction I have read as of late. Can't wait to exchange ideas with you all.
Happy New Year!
Kelly
P.S. I have to comment on the awesome names of other respondants, Maple and Pumpernickel. I've been searching thousands of girl names for my baby due in May and haven't come across either of these in my searches. I love that they are so unique, we may have to add them to our list!

tell me you would not name a girl "Pumpernickel"! Heck, if she is born in May, name her May! Or if you are an avid reader, name her after one of your favorite characters or authors. I have two female cats, the oldest is named Ripley, the younger one is named Newt. I got those from the Alien movies lol. Sigourney Weaver was Ripley and the little girl in the second one was named Newt. ![]()

Hi! I'm Laura and I live on the south coast of Maine. You can read more about me in my profile.
I read The Lace Reader a few months ago and especially liked it for its unique story line.
Talk to you all in a few days!
Reading gives us someplace to go when we have to stay where we are.

Dear kellylep,
I have been Pumpernickel whenever I discuss books in the internet for a long, long while. It's nice of you to like my nick, and of course I understood that you'd not name your girl "Pumpernickel' ; it's just that you like its uniqueness , especially after having seen so many names of girls !
Pumpernickel has a very beautiful story behind it. I think someday I ought to write it...
You and all others here have a very nice 2009 !

Hi all,
Wonderful to see so many familiar names in this month's club! I'm Rachel, your moderator for the month. I also work for a public library, so I've been catching lots of buzz for The Lace Reader from patrons. I'm looking forward to hearing what everyone has to say, and excited that we have Brunonia with us.
Vivian, I'll look for your comments about listening to the audio. I love audiobooks with a good reader, but it is certainly different from reading pages.
I also love New England as a setting for fiction.
Rachel

Hi All - Prudence from Kinderhook Lake here! I enjoyed The Lace Reader summer 2008 while at Eden Pines in Rockport, MA. I read while looking out over the water and watching the lobster boats go by. It was an amazing setting to read an amazing book. I have been to Salem, MA many times and it enjoy every trip I make. I am a professional Tarot Master/Intstructor so I was very attracted to The Lace Reader. Don't want to spoil anything but get the tissues ready for the end!
Congratulations Brunonia!
Love & Laughter,
Prudence

Hi,
I am an avid reader who knows Brunonia through my family. I read her book in the very early stages, reviewed in on my blog and was lucky enough to be included in her Advance Readers Group. I attended her book launch this past summer which was *fantastic*!!
She has actually inspired me to try my hand at writing.
Can't wait for her next book! No pressure Brunonia.....:-)

I started reading "The Lace Reader" late and am still in the first half of the book... I'm savoring the wonderful writing, and taking my time... I don't want the book to end...
I read a chapter, then go back to re-read the introductory snippet from the Lace Readers Guide... interesting how I see and "grasp" what I missed the first time.
Because I live in Boston, I visit Salem frequently. I'm famiiiar with the geography and the landmarks. I'm thrilled when I recognized the street names, and the historic landmarks in Salem... I love the beautiful Tiffany stained glass windows in the church.... and next time I visit, I'm going to check out that statue....

Hello everyone!
My name is Diane and I am from Southern California. I am late joining this discussion, but I read the book in August of 2008 in anticipation of seeing the author in September for a signing in Pasadena. The Lace Reader has to be one of the best books I've ever read and definitely the best one of the 48 I read in 2008. That is why I'm reading it again now, so hopefully I will be able to contribute to the discussion topics although I admit now that I'm a much better reader than writer!
I look forward to participating in this discussion and I'm so thankful that the author is part of this group too. We are so fortunate to hear from her as we read the book!

I'm so glad that you have joined us. I regret not being able to get to Pasadena in September. It is one of my favorite places and, because I lived in Los Feliz for fifteen years, it would have been a bit of a homecoming. In any case, I hope I can answer any of your questions now.
Thanks so much for your kind words about the book.
