I should have thought of this before, but I'm so used to viewing the boards in full screen that it didn't occur to me until today. It's as simple as narrowing your window when looking at the boards. If your base screen is a soothing color, as mine is, then you cut out some of the white. And, there's the added benefit of no more pesky advertisements.
Note, the visible screen above and below the post box is still white, so there's still glare, but it's better than the full screen white.

LMAO, Paul those pictures are hilarious! So at my age and the fact I wear glasses....I have these "floaty" things in the liquid of my eyes that, I'm told, are a normal part of aging.... but when staring at white screen especially, they tend to pop out even more so...and are annoying as hell!!
Yeah I agree, lets get rid of the white... I'm getting a migraine! :-(

I have floaters too - but I'm so used to them they barely register anymore.

THANKS! I will use this tactic when I have to plug my laptop back in due to low battery.
A couple nights ago, I opened the boards at home in my living room when I had no other lights on. My husband saw me light up from the other room and commented on how bright the room just got. I, on the other hand, was totally blind. It was like when you turn on the bathroom light in the middle of the night when the house is dark and you ask yourself, "Why in the world did I do that!!" This is not something you should have to think about when opening a website! Sheesh!

You know, I don't think it would be so bad if they just made the right side a different color, or just made the post background darker. I don't mind the black & white....there is just way too much white on the screen.
I remember learning all about what color combos not to use and how to make the design pleasing to the eye in my website design class. Guess no one took that class huh.......

The post box was always white and the type was always black--that hasn't changed. What has changed is the background color--from tan to a uniform (and glaring) white. The background color makes a big difference! I never had a problem looking at the boards before. Now, I have to narrow the screen, use sunglasses or assume an unappealing and headache inducing squint.
