Hot Off The Presses – The December Features!!!

Scorched  by Sharon Ashwood

There has been so much discussion over the last year about the differences and similarities between paranormal fantasy and paranormal romance, I've decided to read one of those releases in the grey area between the two....

It's Scorched by Sharon Ashwood, the sequel toFebruary's Ravenous. It's the Dark Forgotten saga...

Should be fun!

Tempest Rising (Jane True Series #1)  by Nicole Peeler

This one is a debut novel and although none of the big reviewers have touched it, the word of mouth has been great! This one could be the "sleeper" debut of the year!

It's basically been described as a super fast-paced read that is comparable in style to Charlaine's Sookie saga... Yes, the Sookie saga!!!

Indigo Springs  by A.M. Dellamonica

This one is a debut novel from a well-known and critically acclaimed short story writer, Alyx Dellamonica. She's being hyped as the next coming of Charles de Lint (which would be great if it was true!) but the reason I'm so curious about this book is that it's been described as an urban fantasy as well as an ecofantasy...

The teaser sounds like it has potential – "Indigo Springs is a sleepy town where things seem pretty normal . . . until Astrid’s father dies and she moves into his house. She discovers that for many years her father had been accessing the magic that flowed, literally, in a blue stream beneath the earth, leaking into his house. When she starts to use the liquid "vitagua" to enchant everyday items, the results seem innocent enough: a “’chanted” watch becomes a charm that means you're always in the right place at the right time; a “’chanted” pendant enables the wearer to convince anyone of anything . . .

But as events in Indigo Springs unfold and the true potential of vitagua is revealed, Astrid and her friends unwittingly embark on a journey fraught with power, change, and a future too devastating to contemplate. Friends become enemies and enemies become friends as Astrid discovers secrets from her shrouded childhood that will lead her to a destiny stranger than she could have imagined . . ."

Paul,

Great picks for next months features.  My son got me Nicole's book Tempest Rising Saturday and so far I really like it.  I'm getting Sharon'sbook Scorched at the first of  the month but I don't think I will be able to afford the third book but it does sound good.

I think I may have to pick up Scorched, only because I read the first one.  It was a little steamy at times but not too bad or the whole way through.

I didn't know there where going to be more books.  I am curious, I see by the reviews that Alessandro is back in this book.  But what about Holly?  I liked both the characters, along with Hollys strengths.

Paul, Thanks for getting your December lists out for us to start planning.

I appreciate that.

I have a request in to the library for Tempest Rising.

If it doesn't come in time, I will probably buy it since it is being discussed here.

Tempest Rising was a wonderful read.  I would recommend it to anyone without hesitation. Definitely in my top 10 best reads of the year.

Tempest Rising is an excellent choice! Definitely think it will do very well, and liked it much better than the Sookie books! Gave it a 5/5 rating! Looking forward to seeing what everyone else thinks about it.

Indigo Springs sounds interesting. Will give it a look, since your picks have been pretty good in the past. Thanks Paul!

Cool, Adrian's good people.

I picked up SCORCHED last night (it's that cover... one of my favorite covers this year. Can I have that model's phone number?). Have you read it yet and can you confirm if this series needs to be read in order? I have the first book around here somewhere, but it doesn't look like they have to be. Just curious.

Derek:
The publicist says, yes, it is a series – The Dark Forgotten – but after reading the back covers for both books, I'm guessing that they're different storylines. None of the main characters from Ravenous are even mentioned on the back of Scorched...

I didn't think any of the same characters where in Scorched as well by the back cover but after reading a review on a blog with an interview with the author it does seem as the same characters do appear again in this book.  Mac seems to be the main character in this one and he was a cop in Ravenous.  Also, from what I get out of the interview and review Holly and Alessandro are in this book as well.  Also, that mysterious and wonderous place called the Castle we were introduced to in the last part of Ravenous is one of the main places this book takes place in.

In all, I have not read Scorched yet.  I am going to purchase it as I have not got to get it yet with my 3 other reads for the month.  But, it looks as the same characters and places are in the second book as well.  I don't know if that means you should read Ravenous first or if Scorched could stand on its own with out reading Ravenous.  I just am not sure yet.

Re: Hot Off The Presses – The December Features!!!

A Few of the characters that will be in Scorched like Alessandro and Macmillian but also a bunch of new ones that I'm sure will show up in future books with Holly.  At least I hope we see more of Holly.  I am getting my copy either tomorrow or Tuesday.
