Re: Introduce Yourself!

Hi Y'all,

My name's Mark Henry. Richelle Mead sent me over to get acquainted. Imagine my surprise to find that December is all about my buddy Jeaniene, she's everywhere! Anyhow, I'm an urban fantasy writer with heavy emphasis on comedy. I'm trying my best to keep up with all my peer's books and have been spending a fortune collecting all of them, including Vicki's. I figured a book club might be the impetus I need to actually read them.

Looks like a fun group, so I'm happy to be here.

Mark

"HAPPY HOUR OF THE DAMNED a zomedy with cocktails and eyeliner, coming February 26, 2008 from Kensington Books"

Anxiously awaiting the book, but I need to know_now_if it's the zombies who wear the eyeliner.

Thanks, Kristy Jo. I'm reading Cherie Priest's Four and Twenty Blackbirds. Creepy. Next up is Alexandra Sokoloff's The Hallowing. I'm hoping for a scare.

Re: Introduce Yourself!

Hey Mark,

I just checked out your site. I loved!!!!!! the I Zombie. LMAO. My dream job would be to review books. I usually read about 3 a week. I am currently reading Christine Warren's Howl at the Moon, Katie MacAllister's Holy Smokes, and nora Robert's Blood Brothers.

I just loved Christopher Moore's You Suck. That was the first book by him that I read. It sounds like yours will be along the same lines. I'll be sure to pen you in my book. Some people keep track of appointments and birthday's. I write down book releases.

I have yet to find a support group for bibliophiles. I don't think I would give up my addiction anyway.

Re: Introduce Yourself!

Hi Vampchic,

I loves me some Christopher Moore, my favorite is The Stupidest Angel. That's probably a given considering it's the one with zombies. I've looked at Katie Macallister's books on the shelves a few times. Funny?

Re: Introduce Yourself!

Hey everyone! This will sound redundant to most of you but to all of our new friends, welcome – and please feel free to let me know if there are any upcoming paranormal fantasy releases that you think should be a feature for the month. I know most of what's coming out but there's always titles that slip through the cracks (in my sanity).

Also, I hope all of you have made an effort to read this month's feature – Jeaniene Frost's Halfway to the Grave, unarguably one of the best fantasy debuts of the year.

Enjoy!
Paul

I'm about 1/3 through it and I love it so far! Unfortunately, I had to stop reading to actually do some work (the nerve of these people!) so I'll have to finish it later.

Merry Christmas (or happy whatever you celebrate) to all!

Re: Introduce Yourself!

My name is Lily. I read a lot and stumbled onto the urban fantasy category fairly recently. I have been a sci-fi/fantasy reader all my life, and periodically go on romance binges. I also like reading political non fiction. I started reading urban/modern fantasy by folks like Andre Norton, Mercedes Lackey, Stephen King and Tad Williams (haven't noticed ya'll mentioning him). They all write fantasy/sci-fi or horror which I read, and dabble in paranormal urban fantasy. I was reading Lackey's blog and she said if I liked her Tregarde series, or Serrated edge series, check out Tanya Huff or Laurell Hamilton, and I was off. I used to not like vampire stories for the same reason I don't really like Armageddon stories, its just rubs me wrong, but these authors completely turned me around. I loved Huffs blood books, ( and the series on Lifetime) and the followup series about the blossoming young wizard in the TV biz. Now I have read lots more authors, some I like and some not so much. I find many of the authors to be just jazzed up romance. But some are amazing. I loved Incubus blues and a series I recently finished about the world where an experiment in psi powers goes wrong and changes the whole world and people turn into all kind of beast and fairies and dragons The protagonists go on a quest to save his sister and off they go. It was great I wish I could remember the title or author. A nother fantasy book by a writer who's fantasy I had read before was Sunshine. Really a great addition to the Vampire fantasy category. I love Patricia Briggs and Marjorie Liu, and Sunny and the Urban Shaman series and the Canadian guy who wrote about the crow girls...DeLint I think his name is. I read a odd series Beginning with Dhampire which was a mix between modern vampire fiction and fantasy. Anyway, I've read the Sooky Stackhouse series and some of the crimson city series. I guess Ill stop. I get carried away. Books are my favorite subject and I don't know many folks who enjoy my flavor. Reading this blog along with the top 10 one has been fun.
Dude, Where's my book!

Re: Introduce Yourself!

Thanks for the welcome. I notice you are an author. What have you written. Id like to put it on the to read list. I noted many folks raving.

And I forgot to mention my favorite author (horrified). Marion Zimmer Bradley. She wrote some modern fantasy books that were wonderful about modern witchcraft and such a lthough they did not get the press her Darkover series had. Did you know she started out as a romance writer so that piece is usually added to the story.
Dude, Where's my book!
