Maybe, dalnewt but something about that just doesn't feel right to me. I think that – especially after reading A Perfect Blood – Rachel will end up single but not alone.

Here's the thing – not being in a relationship is perfectly okay and if Rach hasn't found that certain someone by the end of this series, I'm fine with her walking off into the sunset with her super strong relationships with her friends in tact.

Does this series need a romantic connection at its end? I say no.

Maybe--but isn't that what Rachel has right now? I mean she's single with good friends. Also, based upon her ogling of men and replay of Trent in a towel and Trent's kiss, she's obviously horny. Frankly, how is Rachel gonna be really happy if she doesn't find someone to express her sexuality with? Plus, per this book, she obviously wants a special someone and envied Ivy.

Agreed, Dalnewt – I guess my biggest concern is a HEA ending that doesn't jive with the rest of the storyline... it's a touchy thing because, like I said in my review, these characters have become like family to me and I want what's best for Rachel. I'd personally rather see her alone and sexually frustrated than with someone who isn't "right" for her. Is Trent right for her? Maybe...

There is still the Kisten (im)possibility – I would LOVE to see that someone happen. But HOW?

I suppose there's always the possibility of a curse/spell that alters time allowing Ivy or Rachel or other people to rescue Kisten. But, I don't really see it happening. If that was the case then Jenks would be able to go back and save Matalina, and I don't think that is going to happen. Also, there was alway the 'different species' thing with Kisten. Rachel and Kisten could never have children. Elves were never ruled out though. And a marriage/mating between a demon (Rachel) and an elf (Trent) would symbolize an official end to demon-elf enmity.

Ehh, who knows? Maybe Rachel will meet someone new. But, I really don't see it happening because I think Harrison would want Rachel to find happiness with one of the established characters--and that means Trent. Kisten is ashes (and could never have children with Rachel). Pierce's personality wasn't really compatible. Plus, he appropriated another witch's body and HATES demons.  Nick is a RAT. Al is like an embarrassing relative to Rachel (although I'd love her to wind up with him for sheer entertainment value). As I see it Trent is the only romantic choice, but it doesn't feel completely right.

I LOVE the idea of Rachel and Trent together.  There has always been this bipolar chemistry between them.  It would be wonderful to see what would happen between them if they just gave each other a chance.

I hear you, 3mm – I guess I need to see more of a reformed Trent before I hop on that bandwagon.

Re: MARCH FEATURE #1: A Perfect Blood by Kim Harrison

I figured out why I feel like a Rachel/Trent pairing isn't quite right--its all about his present family unit. His past behavior can be corrected, but how do you correct the fact that he lives in this huge home with an established family unit that includes Ceri (as a mother figure), Quen (in a protector capacity and as Ceri's consort) and two kids? I want Rachel to have someone who she can begin a life with, not someone who already has a family. It's not really about Trent's child, it's about Trent's established family unit. I want Rachel to have her own family, not join an existing one.

Re: MARCH FEATURE #1: A Perfect Blood by Kim Harrison

Well I'm still hoping that Rachel and Ivy still end up together. But if not, I guess Trent would be my 2nd pick for Rachel. I just don't see anyone else that would be  good match for her and I can't see KH bringing in a new character in for her, not this late in the game. Of course it would be nice to have rachel realize that she doesn't need anyone else to make her happy. Guess we will have to wait and see how its going to end.

by the way......I loved this book!

Re: MARCH FEATURE #1: A Perfect Blood by Kim Harrison

I don't know guys.  I am slowly but surely coming around to the Trent and Rachel bandwagon.  I think that is a testament to Kim Harrison's amazing writer skillz.  If you would have told me when I first finished Dead Witch Walking that I could see them together I would have slapped  you, but now it seems not only a feasible, but a very likely choice.  I think that Kim has taken her time and really did right by the fans.  She has slowly built up their relationship from loathing to begrudging respect to now somewhat of a mutual admiration.  I think the furthering of the Trent/Rachel friendship or relationship or whatever was one of my favorite aspects of this novel.

I know that A Perfect Blood has been met with tepid reviews, which I cannot fathom.  It wasn't as action packed as Pale Demon, but I think that Rachel needed a breather.  What it lacked in action, it definitely made up for in character growth.  It was so nice to see Rachel kind of come into her own in this book, and become an adult.  She is doing more than just talking a big game.  She is accepting her place in society with her actions not just her words.  Man, I could go on and on.  I love this series and I love the character of Rachel.  I will be inconsolable when this series ends.

Re: MARCH FEATURE #1: A Perfect Blood by Kim Harrison

I am not sure I even want to see Rachel end up with anyone..I want to see her happy and comfortable in her own skin first...in all her relationships she holds back...

I do like Trent now, and I agree in book one I loathed him. I am not sure Rachel could every truly make Ivy happy.

[ Edited ]

I just posted this in response to a Kimba post in the Guilty Pleasures thread. I figured it should really be posted here as well.

Link is to Patricia Briggs and Kim Harrison reading and answering questions..they are so funny..Loved it :smileyhappy:

I LOVED Harrison's explanation for Algaliarept = Al-liar-reptlle.

Here's what I found important.

Hollows series:

Harrison chose Rachel/Trent dialog when reading from  A Perfect Blood (Rachel Morgan Series #10). It looks like Trent will be part of Rachel's HEA. She says she originally wrote him as a 'big, bad ugly' but, as the series went on, his character became more attractive. She admits that killing off Kisten left the door open for Trent, and that she would dearly like to kill off Nick.

Harrison says that she's aiming to end the Rachel Morgan series at book 12 or 13. She says that she knows about happenings in book 12, but also has ideas for book 13.

She mentions that Jenks will probably not find a romantic substitute for Matilina but will begin the healing process.

(I wish someone would have asked about Ivy and the whole vampire soul thing.)

When asked which male character resembles her husband, she says she takes bits and pieces from everywhere, but that Jenks reminds her most of her husband because he's always got Rachel's back and also comes back with a smart aleck comment.

Harrison also mentions that the Hollows series is being produced for TV. Says CW is very positive, but so far she doesn't know specifics about the production and mentions a 2012 or 2013 release.

She also talks about the book series that will follow the Hollows saying it will be written in a first person voice with a slightly older (30 year old) female protagonist.

Harrison also said that she has no plans whatsoever to write novels from Ivy's or Jenk's perspective, and that the graphic novels, written from Ivy's perspective, are the only books to be written from a supporting character's perspective. She did mention the possibility of future short stories from the Ivy and Jenk perspective.

Alpha and Omega and Mercy Thompson Series:

In the Alpha and Omega series, Brigg's says that in a future book Anna wants a baby but, per the series, werewolves can't have them. She also says that Anna and Charles have chance of having a human baby or a werewolf baby or something else.

In the Mercy Thompson series. Brigg's mentions that, in a future book, Jesse remarks that she'd like to see a baby and that her untimely remark causes Mercy problems.

She also mentioned something about a compilation of short stories with at least one featuring Samuel and one about Ben. She also mentions other characters, like Bran, in short stories.

Re: MARCH FEATURE #1: A Perfect Blood by Kim Harrison

I just finished it!!!!

I have always felt there would be something between Rachel/Trent.  Even when he was beating her head against a gravestone.  I know, I know that doesn't really make any sense, but there was just something about their weird relationship/chemistry that worked for me.

I loved their interaction in this book and definately in Pale Demon (ooohhh that kiss).  But, there were some things that KH wrote in the book that kind of threw me for a loop with their progression.

 1. Rachel touching Trents face and him freaking - whats up with that!

 2. Some of the weird uncomfortableness between them

But then again she would throw in things like the ring he made for her...and having her phone calls go directly to him... lol.

I guess we will have to wait till next Feb.  The book was awesome and I liked it.  I did think it was a little slow starting, but it definately picked up.

HELP! I've fallen and can't reach my book!!!!

Finished the book and loved it!!  Yeah it was a little slow to begin with put it sure picked up half way through.  To me as well, it is looking like she is setting up for he end of the series...everyone has grown so much from the beginning of the series, it's been an amazing ride.  I agree with you Paul, these characters do feel like part of the family.  :-)  I have been suspecting her and Trent hooking up in the end for a while...just because it seems to me like she is setting up for it, especially in this last book.  He as come along way from the slimy jerk he was at the beginning of the series when he put her in the cage and then stuck her in the rat fights.  With him working on his elven magic a lot more and not so much being involved in work, that especially tells me, he has changed...immensely.  So really it would not surprise me if the two of them ended up hooking up...  Or if Rachel ended up alone I don't think that would be a bad thing, but I personally want to see her, in the end, with someone....  and happy.  :-)

I finished A Perfect Blood this week as an audio book. It was all I expected. The characters are so human no matter what their species are. Rachel is still impulsive which makes a great storyline. I will regret when this series ends.

I like the facts you brought up here. By the end of the book I was thinking about when Rachel and Trent were kids and that in a way they were still acting like kids and not talking or addressing what is going on between them. But the tension between Rachel and Trent is making us think and talk about them. I am sure an author likes that.

I don't need the happy ending thing for Rachel. I have been thinking Rachel and Trent could be a item for awhile but as 2 single people.  I can't picture Rachel in a 'marriage' type situation. Rachel is most attached to Jenks and Ivy, that is her family and life. I'm not sure she needs anything  permanent.

I like the way yousaid "Of course it would be nice to have rachel realize that she doesn't need anyone else to make her happy.". That is a perfect ending for Rachel.

Re: MARCH FEATURE #1: A Perfect Blood by Kim Harrison

I like the idea of Rachel having a partner like Trent-he compliments her.  Now I'm sure we won't see marriage and kids but an actual relationship with someone she respects and "gets her" would be nice.  Someone she can count on and he has a family.  Her actual family is out of the picture and Ivy and jenks are growing into the people they want to be and the people Rach helped them realize they could be.  Jenks and Trent already have a relationship start so it seems that's a must when starting a relationship-your closest friends and family liking each other.  And even Ivy has pushed her towards Trent at times.  I do hope to see Ivy's story unfold-as Kim's blog has said we will see a lot of her in the last book.  There is room for all of them in each others lives its just a matter of balance.  Now Al, I love him, but I see him as an uncle or even mentor to each other.  She is teaching him humanity and he is teaching her "demon".  I can' wait until Into the Woods comes out-Trent and Jenk's working bromance. hehe

Re: MARCH FEATURE #1: A Perfect Blood by Kim Harrison

I do hope Rachel and Trent do get together in the end- I think they compliment each other really well- they have a rocky history, and would have an even more rocky relationship, but I think that's good for both of them! Some excitement, some tension, but understanding, and that relationship would never boring (which I think would be the saving grace there)!

In the end, I would be happy leaving Rachel and Trent as "beginning a relationship" but not married or co-habitating or anything. Just the sparks of love, and knowing Rachel is still maturing and moving on, no matter what happens with Ivy and Jenks, but that she's starting a good relationship and is happy and content.  That's all I ask for, is that too much?? :smileytongue:
