Try these:

Richelle Mead's Dark Swan series

Seanan McGuire's October Daye series

Yasmine Galenorn's Indigo Court series

Robyn Bachar's Bad Witch series (not ALL fae, but fae elements)

Kalayna Price's Alex Craft series

and as already mentioned- H.P. Mallory's Dulcie O'Neill series. Her Jolie Wilkins has some fae in them as well.

Try Spellcrackers Series by Suzanne McLeod.  I just read the first 3 in the series and really enjoyed them.

Re: New and Recommended

 Hi Everyone,

Check out my review of the J. A. Pitts debut novel Black Blade Blues at Blood Rose Books. If you like the darker and more gritty side of urban fantasy then this novel is for you. Plus if you like Dragons vs. Knights (well kind of knights in this book, lol) aspect but set in a modern time, you will like this book too.

Black Blade Blues (Sarah Beauhall Series #1)

Not sure where to post this, but Vicki Pettersson's new book The Taken (Celestial Blues Series #1)  is on e-book special sale for $2.99 through the end of the week... I know I took advantage of this!! (normal price was $9.99!).

That is awesome!  Thank you for posting this.  I was wanting to give this book a try, but have been TRYING to budget my book buying lately.  For $2.99 it's a steal!

Re: New and Recommended

I am reading A Human Element, by Donna Galanti...ok so Laura can heal people...her mom falls, he neighbor is stung by hundreds of bees...but that doesn't stop the evil that surrounds her from killing the people she loves. Then comes Ben, average dysfunctional guy with a sorted past...no special powers, but he has to help Laura defeat an unknown bad guy with some freakishly strong powers to kill from afar. Great read - can't put the book down. Just read The Stormcaller by Tom Lloyd, check it out.

I read this while I was on vacation.  I really liked it, but it was much darker than I thought it was going to be.  I was looking for something lighter for vacation.  That was my bad, not the books.  I look forward to hearing what people think about the book.

I really liked the book but I knew it was a pretty dark read, I can't wait for the next one in the series.

I just finished this book and really liked it. I didn't get any dark vibes at all. But I didn't have any expectations before I started reading it except for Paul's Explorations review. I loved the mix of genres that Paul described and had to give the book a try. I wasn't disappointed in my purchase.

Well maybe not as dark as some books we like Pen, but a little darker than some.

It wasn't that the book was too dark for me in general.  It was just that I wanted something lighter for vacation.  Though, I do not read much "light".  I do not want to spoiler anything so I will not be specific about what I thought was dark...but saying that the bad guy's bad stuff gave me the hebbie-jebbies may be a better way to describe it.

Yes Deb you do know me. I do like dark books. And I agree with both of you it is not "light". But what a great read. And Madis when we are on vacation I like a light, maybe fun read too. I haven't read the authors other books, so my expectations were very open when I read the book. This board and everyone's opinions/reviews has expanded the types of books I read.

It was a great read!  I have read this author before, but it seems like that was eons ago.  In hindsight, I should have had a better idea of what I was getting into.  With her books you can never guess what is behind the next turn.  I love that.  I do not read her books and feel like I have already read them and I am always surprised on where she takes them.

My husband did have to deal with me yelling expletives at the book towards the end as well as the "what is wrong with people" speech afterwards.  He knows better than to point out that it was fiction, not a news report.....though they can be pretty fictitious too, but that is for another day.

Re: New and Recommended

Did anyone else notice that The Kingmakers (Vampire Empire, Book 3)  was released already?!? I thought the release was 9/4! I thought I saw a mention of it on Clay Griffith's blog, but it came in the mail to me the other day... (I'm not sure exactly when, I was out of town). Still not available as ebook, but coming soon I'm sure.

Um, but YAY!!! I am so excited to read the conclusion to the series!!

Re: New and Recommended

Hi Everyone,

I wasn't sure where to post about this in this forum as I could not find the right one, and this seems to be the only place I actually do post, so it is kind of fitting. I am currently hosting my two year Blogoversary over at Blood Rose Books with author interviews and giveaways throughout the month so September. There will be several interviews and giveaways about authors I have posted about in here. Be sure to stop a few times in September to make sure that you are entered to win.

Just to give you a hint of who is attending.

Spider's Bite (Elemental Assassin Series #1)

Shaedes of Gray (Shaede Assassin Series #1)

I hope that you are able to stop by.

Cheers
