WHAT BOOKS OR SERIES WOULD YOU LIKE TO SEE MADE INTO A MOVIE?

I would love to see some of my favorite books made into movies. Several choices would be Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich, Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter series by Laurell Hamilton, Rachel Morgan series by Kim Harrison, amd Fever Series by MK Moning.

These would all be great ones.

What do you think?

This is a no-brainer for me. If someone could make Michael Moorcock's Elric saga into a series of high quality movies, it would be mind-boggling. These novels are fantasy classics and Elric is arguably the most complex fantasy character ever created. Can I get a witness?!?

Yeah - right here, but I think it would be tricky to adapt the Elric stories into film. My plan of attack would be to ask Moorcock (or get his blessing) to create more or less a new story that would run a projected three films, but would include elements and situations from the initial Elric novels.

I also think that Fafhrd and the Gray Mouser are long overdue on film - in fact, I find it hard to believe that hasn't been attempted or even considered to my knowledge. "Pirates of the Caribbean in the world of Lord of the Rings." There, I already gave someone their pitch line. You think the pirate thing is big? Imagine the monetary windfall that well-made Fafhrd and Gray Mouser films would create.

Derek:

I'm with you on Fritz Leiber, man – those stories are classic adventure fantasy. Extremely underrated today – it's very sad, although a few years back a publisher (I think Dark Horse) started reissuing them.

And as far as Elric goes, I love your idea. Just let me know where I can buy a tcket!

Re: WHAT BOOKS OR SERIES WOULD YOU LIKE TO SEE MADE INTO A MOVIE?

I think everyone wants Elric and I believe one of the studios bought the rights to it in the last year or so. Not first time the rights have been sold though....someone was trying to make a animated version once but never had the backing (thankfully!). I want to see someone do Glen Cook's "Garrett P.I." books into a movie. I know he's starting to get a little long in the tooth, but Bruce Campbell as Garrett is perfect! Also would like to see Simon Green's "Beyond the Blue Moon" as movie. Plenty of action and comedy would be real entertaining and not terribly hard for Hollywood to do

Re: WHAT BOOKS OR SERIES WOULD YOU LIKE TO SEE MADE INTO A MOVIE?

Hubby and I were having this conversation today (he's a cinematographer).

These are all "old school" lol

1. John Carter of Mars (reason he got in the industry)

2. Dolphin Island

3. Have Space Suit Will Travel

4.  Dragonriders of Pern

5.  The Sixth Collum

I deviated with...

6.  One of the Darkover books (I don't care which one, I love them all, though i'm partial to the ones about the Renunciates)

If only we had the power and influence to make these, lol.

Suzanne:

Yes! I completely forgot about the John Carter of Mars novels – those would be AMAZING if done properly... Those books were a huge reason for me getting into SF/fantasy at such an early age. I still have the completely yellowed paperbacks I bought back in the 70s...

Re: WHAT BOOKS OR SERIES WOULD YOU LIKE TO SEE MADE INTO A MOVIE?

Pixar currently holds the movie rights to John Carter. However, I've read that they plan on making it live action and don't plan on turning it into a family film. This could be their way of expanding beyond their core fanbase. More power to them - Pixar makes great movies from a visual and storytelling POV.

I've always thought that Anne McCaffrey's Pern books would be fun to see in a movie .  But I really can't see how they can capture all the magic and majesty of the books.

Werecat:

Yeah, the Pern novels COULD be fantastic movies but the risk factor is huge. If everything isn't pulled off properly, it could be a train wreck. The dragons, the thread, the entire backstory – it has tons of potential but look at what happened to Frank Herbert's Dune!!!

Re: WHAT BOOKS OR SERIES WOULD YOU LIKE TO SEE MADE INTO A MOVIE?

NONE

OF

THEM!

None!

Not a One!

the very thought of what the book butchers (that we commonly call Hollywood) would do to the story sends shudders down my spine.

Harry Potter: Brutalized and murdured

Eragon: Tortured, disemboweled and left to bleed to death

Twilight: I'm terrified that when I see it I'll cry tears of blood

Dresdon files: The PAIN! the terrable HORRABLE PAIN!!! (Yah I know it's TV, same diff.)

The Lord of the Rings: It Lives, IT LIVES! (in a familliar looking if cut up, rearanged and sewn together Frankenstein's monster kind of way)

Jumper: I vomit

I could go ON and ON (and on and on and on!) about all the EXCELENT books that have been turned into subpar (at best) movies and/or Tv shows

I just looked at my book collection and realized that I'm a Bibliophile like in Read or Die!

Well, it was a good series about a wizard in Chicago. It just wasn't **the** Harry Dresden, or **the** Dresden Files.

I honestly can't see LKH's Anita Blake being made into a tv show – there's just no way to do it justice. A movie? Maybe... I think if someone could do it "right" it would be AMAZING....

Re: WHAT BOOKS OR SERIES WOULD YOU LIKE TO SEE MADE INTO A MOVIE?

I remember being in a bookstore a LONG time ago (maybe 4 or 5 years aho) and the clerk said the Plum series were going to be made into a movie, and that Sandra Bullock and Reese Witherspoon were being considered for the part. HA is that funny?? I still haven't heard any real word if Hollywood is interesting in making the series into a movie . I know my mom loves the books. I read the first few...

I would L O V E  to see April & Oliver made into a movie! I think it could be beautiful .

And since Nicohlas Sparks is always a good choice; I'd also say The Rescue would be a good choice of movie, too . But I heard True Believer has been picked.
