It's getting to be that time again – best of the year lists! I just started mine but I wanted to throw it out there for you guys too:
1. What were your top paranormal fantasy releases of 2010?
2. What were your favorite paranormal fantasy debuts of 2010?

The one that really stands for me immediately is
Labyrinth (Greywalker Series #5) and, of course, there's still two months to go. I'll think about it, but don't want to be premature. I'm still waiting for Kill the Dead and Vampire Uprising (Skinners) will be released in November.

And Falling, Fly by Skyler White.
The best vampire novel since "Let The Right One In."
Unholy Ghosts (Downside Ghosts Series #1) by Stacia Kane
Flips "urban fantasy" on its head and uses it as a punching bag.
Blood Oath by Christopher Farnsworth
Incredibly fun debut.
Evolve anthology, edited by Nancy Kilpatrick
Solid reminder of how diverse vampire literature can be.

Amazing Werewolf mythos and proof that a YA story can exist without a love triangle:

I think for me...the book that most stuck with me was Changes by Jim Butcher.
Didn't really read many debut's but I did really enjoy Master of None, by Sonia Bateman.
Current book(s): Falling Blind by Shannon K. Butcher (Sentinel Wars #7)
Just finished: Kitty Rocks the House by Carrie Vaughn (Kitty Norville #11)

I think The Passage was the best epic fantasy released in 2010. It should be designated number one on the Sci-Fi & Fantasy board, IMO. I also loved
Feed, but I don't know exactly where to put it. It's really a fusion of horror, fantasy and conspiracy thriller set in a semi-apocalyptic future.

Stacia Kane's Downside Ghosts series (Unholy Ghosts, Unholy Magic and City of Ghosts) is far and away my favorites from this year. I can barely wait until the series continues.

Crap, I'm glad I'm not you Paul. I can't really decide right now which book I enjoyed reading the most in UF category. Here are my favorites in terms of enjoyment: Labyrinth (Greywalker Series #5), The Greyfriar (Vampire Empire, Book 1), Twilight Forever Rising , Feed (Newsflesh Trilogy Series #1) and Kill the Dead. I absolutely loved reading these books, (each for different reasons), and I can't quantify or measure my enjoyment. I really don't know how you do it. I suppose you could disqualify some books that meld different genre elements, but that doesn't really seem justified to me. Note, I enjoyed many other UFs this year, but the above are my contenders for #1. Plus, I have yet to read And Falling, Fly, so perhaps that should also be a contender for #1.
In the purely 'epic' fantasy category I enjoyed The Passage the most in terms of scope, characters, themes and resonant content.

Because of your link, I'm now very interested in reading
By Nightfall. And,
The Tiger looks pretty irresistable to me too. Thanks!

I just remembered how much I loved
Black Magic Sanction (Rachel Morgan Series #8). Because the book was released early in the year, my recollection of my reading enjoyment slightly faded. But, among my all-time favorite UF series, (series which I've been reading for three or more years), I enjoyed reading Black Magic Sanction and
Labyrinth (Greywalker Series #5) the most last year.

Hey Paul, how long until we see the list?
Also, is it the year of the zombie as you predicted? Or, is it the year of the vampire?

Well, I'm trying to wait until close to year's end – there are still some 2010 releases I need to read to see if they make the lists! Soon though... ![]()
