Re: What are you currently reading?

I spent the holiday weekend reading....

Hunt the Moon (Cassandra Palmer Series #5)

After a long long two year wait, the new Cassie Palmer book is out and it didn't disappoint.  The bad thing, I barely remember what happened in the last book!  No problems though.  Chance did a good job of leaving hints of what's happened along the way.  I was surprise that really only two months had passed since book 1.

Cassie's coronation is only days away and someone is trying to kill her...again.  Cassie and Pritkin scramble to figure out who is after her and put a stop to them.  Meanwhile Cassie is chafing under Mircea's 'care'.  This book reveals a lot about Pritkin's, Mircea's and Cassie's past.  She even gets to meet her parents....

Deeper Than Midnight (Midnight Breed Series #9)

Corinne is one of the women rescued from Dragos' lab.  She's looking forward to going back home to Detroit, but her old bodyguard, Brock, is stuck in Alaska so Hunter offers to escort her home.  Her happy reunion with her adoptive parents doesn't last long once Hunter uncovers a nasty secret that sends him and Corinne on a hunt for Drago's allies.

This was Hunter's book, but I was more interested in Chase's woes and the war with Dragos.   I really like this series but at this point, I think I'm more interested in the overall world and story arc that any individual couple featured.

This must be the year for big changes and surprises in book series.....in this book, Dragos has a nasty surprise for the Order that leaves them scrambling and possibly exposing their world.

Black Heart Loa (Hoodoo Series #2)

Loved it!  I couldn't put it down.  I'll leave my comments on the feature thread.

Burn the Night (Dark Days Series #6)

I started this one today.  Im only a few chapters in, but so far so good.

Trying to get caught up on a couple series and also give a few different series a chance:

Hunter's Prayer (Jill Kismet Series #2)

Of Saints and Shadows (Shadow Saga Series #1)

(not sure what I expected but this is an unusual book, does not feel like an urban fantasy)

Roadkill (Cal and Niko Series #5)

(1 of my favorite series)

Re: What are you currently reading?

I found this one on the weekend...sounds interesting.  :-)

Dark Awakening

For centuries, shapeshifting vampire Tynan MacGillivray has prowled the night as an outcast, valued only for his ferocious hunting skills. When a feud among the immortals escalates into all-out war, he is ordered by his ruthless queen to locate a Seer-a human woman with a special gift-who can secure victory for their clan. Ty's search leads him to a quiet New England town, but once he has the Seer in his grasp, her touch awakens within him a hunger like he's never known . . .

Lily Quinn has always been different. Since childhood, she's had vivid nightmares and an eerie sixth sense. When a sexy, silver-eyed stranger demands her help, Lily plunges into a new world of danger and sensuality. With Ty, she discovers sizzling passions she cannot deny and powers she cannot control. Soon, it is clear that Lily is much more than a Seer-she holds the key to ancient secrets and unthinkable destruction. But will a vampire's vow of eternal protection stop these evil forces . . . or unleash her dark destiny?

Re: What are you currently reading?

Just finished "Kitty's Big Trouble" by Carrie Vaughn and "Black Heart Loa" by Adrian Phoenix. Two very good books.

The one thing I did not like about Kitty's Big Trouble was that the was too short; only 194 pages! Other than that I really enjoyed the book, I liked the look into Chinese custom's.

Black Heart Loa was great, I liked it much better than the 1st one. I can't wait for the next one!

Well I got 20 more days to wait till the next Jim Butcher book comes out, so I guess I will read "Deceived by the Others" next.

shhhhh....I'm reading.

Kimba, I am so glad you are reading Feed!  We seem to have fvery similar taste in books, so I will be eager to hear what you think once you're done.  Make sure you read book 2, Deadline too!  Also let me know what you think of Greywalker please.  It's on my TBR list.  :smileyvery-happy:

I'm never sure where this series belongs--here or in Science Fiction & Fantasy--but I'm re-reading the Noble Dead series, by Barb and J.C. Hendee, in preparation for reading the latest installment (book 8), Of Truth and Beasts.  Right now I'm up to book 4, Traitor to the Blood.

Re: What are you currently reading?

[ Edited ]

Right now my eyes are glued to pages of

Black Heart Loa (Hoodoo Series #2).

I'm on page 124 (about 1/4 of the way through) and so far this book is more urgent and twisty than Black Dust Mambo (Hoodoo Series #1)I loved the humor, characters, multiple plot lines and regional dialects in Black Dust Mambo. But, I absolutely love the thriller urgency of this book. Oh, there's still humor, (primarily supplied so far by Kallie's friend the voodoo mambo in training friend Belladonna), but what stands out for me in this book is just how skilled Phoenix is at writing multiple thriller plot lines that literally keep the reader glued to the page.

The beginning scenario opens with Kallie desperately trying to read the cards to determine the fate of her cousin Jackson. Her friend Belladonna, her aunt Divinity and the voodoo mambo named Gabriella, who's identity was stolen by Divinity, are anxiously waiting for the outcome of the card reading. Then, the house is raided by two rednecks with shotguns who demand to know where Jackson stashed their stuff. Eventually the women get the upper hand and learn that the rednecks followed three men who beat up Jackson, kidnapped him with his own truck and, then, buried him alive in a grave somewhere in Chacahoula, the home town of Dr. Heron (the voodoo villain who tried to kill Kallie in the last book).

The wimpiest redneck agrees to lead Kallie to the place where Jackson was buried, but Jackson must have been underground for about eight hours and may already be dead. Then, Kallie's aunt, Divinity, blows sleep dust in the face of the belligerent/aggressive redneck. An unknown power causes Kallie's heart to falter, and instead of the redneck falling asleep, Divinity does. A horrendous storm is bearing down on the bayou as Kallie and Belladonna race to save Jackson. Meanwhile Gabriella, the voodoo mambo, left behind with Kallie's sleeping aunt and the tied-up but still belligerent redneck, summons the loa of death, Baron Samedi, to ask him to preserve Jackson's life. Again the magic backfires. Baron Samedi appears, but his personality is capricious and somewhat malicious. The Baron takes the belligerent redneck for a cheval, and there's some sort of personality interchange with the vengeful redneck sometimes in control of the Baron's supernatural powers. The Baron/redneck then disappears intent on punishing Kallie for punching the redneck and making sure Jackson is dead. So Kallie has to contend with oncoming hurricane, a capricious (often malicious) loa of death and the unknown magical force which seems to be influencing everything.

That's the beginning scenario (first 52 pages or so). I don't want to say anything more other than to reiterate that the intersecting story lines are intense, lightning fast and full of surprises. And, yes, Kallie's nomad biker love interest, Layne Valin, is featured. (And, the spirit of Lord Basil Augustine is still with him.:smileyhappy:) Werewolves also make an appearance. I'm loving this book so far

I finished Burn the Night the other day.  Very good book.  Drake wraps up the story arcs with Jabari, Nick, and Aurora.  Although this was the last book in the series, she leave enough threads to start a spin off series, or continue on later.

Great series and one of my top ten favorites.  When I first found the series only 4 books were out and I read them back to back as fast I could.  Now you have tempted me to go back and re-read them again because they are just that good.  :smileyhappy:

Just finished Deceived by the Others

This was a very entertaining and fast pace story that sets up the plot for the next book. I hope the next book comes out soon. This series is a must read.

I still have 18 days till Jim Bucthers next book, so next I think I will read Blood Secrets by Jeannie Holmes.

Re: What are you currently reading?

I just finished

Feed (Newsflesh Trilogy Series #1)

yep and its 2:21am. I could not put it down. This book blew my mind. So many twists and turns..had me thinking could this really happen. I became emotionally invested in the main characters. The story line was so unique and so not what i expected... with zombies. There wasn't alot of blood and gore, but it was down right scary..

now i am reading :

The Girl in the Steel Corset (Steampunk Chronicles Series)
