Paul I totally missed that last year! And wow, even your first paragraph rings true- maybe that's why I was really drawn to reading a dystopian novel... Now I'm really glad I chose this to read now, thanks for sharing!!!

Re: What are you currently reading?

I've been on vacation and while I didn't get much reading done the week before, I think I made up for it while away....

Raven Calls (Walker Papers Series #7)

Walker goes to Ireland to save her mother, whose been raised as a banshee.  Gary shows up to help and one of her cousins ends up helping as well, but the normal crew (Billy and Morrison) are absent.  It took me a while to finish this one just because I had so much to do getting ready for vacay, but I still liked it.  One of these days I'll dedicate some time and reread the series.  I didn't remember stuff from the earlier books that were referenced in this one so I think I'll like it better if I read them back-to-back.

Nightborn (Lords of the Darkyn Series #1)

The High Lord sends his second, Korvel, to France to retrieve and important Darkyn artifact that holds a secret to immortality.  While on his mission Korvel meets Simone, a mysterious linked to the artifact.  Each has orders to use the other to obtain the scroll then kill him/her.

I had a similar problem with this book in that I didn't remember the main character from previous books.  You will definitely need to have read the Darkyn books first.  You don't need to read the Kyndred ones though as they are only mentioned as a vague group....

Eternity Embraced (Demonica Series)

Andrea Cole is on a mission to rescue her fellow slayer and boyfriend Kaden.  Only one problem....the vampires turned Kaden into one of them.  Now she must decide if he's worth fighting for or if she should destroy him.

A short story set in the Demonica world and was originally published in an anthology.  You could read it as a stand alone since it mainly takes place on the west cost and doesn't involve past characters until the very end.

Immortal Rider (Lords of Deliverance Series #2)

Book two revolves around the only female horseman, Limos and Arik, whose sister mated Shade.  At a party, Arik lets his attraction to Limos get out of hand and ends up kissing her.  Before it gets too far, Arik gets dragged into hell by Limos' jealous fiancee, Satan, to be tortured.  If he speaks her name while in agony, Limos will be claimed and her seal will break.  But to free him, she has to work with Pestilence, the only horseman so far whose turned.

I don't know why I kept bypassing this one in my TBR list, it was an enjoyable read.  She sets up nicely for Than's book.

Dire Warning

This was a recommendation on Amazon that I decided to try out.  It's a short story that introduces a new series...think tame BDB with weres.

The Dire wolves are the defenders of humans and there were cousins from Weretrappers, a group of human that started hunting weres and the dires after their ancestors were slaughtered.  Each of the Dires that survived the Extinction have a special gift.  In this story, a human woman is found murdered, with her heart ripped out.  A local paranormal researcher claims a werewolf is the murder and he has proof.  The Dires have to find out if it's true and destroy any evidence that weres exist.

Dire Needs (Eternal Wolf Clan Series #1)

Book one in the series is about the leader of the Dires, Rifter.  Rifter is a dreamwalker who has a nose for trouble.  One night his nose leads him to a local were bar where he's drawn to a human, Gwen.  Gwen has been battling seizures for most of her life and was just told she's got maybe a month to live before they kill her.  Determined to make the most of her remaining days she heads out to a bar and ends up taking Rifter home with her.  Rifter normally doesn't associate with humans, but is drawn to Gwen.  Apparently so are other weres and witches.  Rifter and Gwen have to figure out who is after her and why if they want to have any sort of life together, that is if the seizures don't kill her first.

The premise of this series is nothing new....immortal fighters living together, battling the enemy, and each finding a HEA.  It's very loosely tied to Larrisa Ione's Demonica world....there are a couple of mentions of UGH and Doc E in there, but no crossover characters.  If you like Ione or Pamela Palmer's Feral series this one is worth a shot.

Lover Reborn (Black Dagger Brotherhood Series #10)

Holy Crap!  Make sure you have plenty of tissues!  Finally we reach Tohr's book...and its a doozy.  Not only to you have to watch Tohr struggle to move on with his life, but John Matthew and Xhex are having relationship issues too!  Seems Ward doesn't like to give all her couples that fairytale HEA...nope, they struggle even more.  Quinn is still struggling with his feelings for Blay and Layla finds her mate...maybe.  We get to learn more about the Band of Bastards and what makes them tick,  Ward introduces a new player that's gunning for Rhev's old drug business, and there is an attempt on Wrath life.

I could not put this one down!  As usually the main couple, Tohr and No'One, are supposed to be the main focus, but there is so much other stuff going on you really can't call this their book.  The glymera are moving back into Caldwell and the BoB are trying to getting their support in getting rid of Wrath.  Quinn, Blay, and Layla's storylines get progressed and the event that Quinn foresaw will start to happen towards the end of the book.  There are some real touching scenes with Tohr and John Matthew as they try to move on from Wellsie's death.  And the Fade ceremony for Wellsie will finally happen.   And if anyone is worried about what happens with Lassiter.....I read somewhere that he will have a book, but Ward doesn't know if it will be part of the BDB or the Fallen Angels series.

After the emotional rollercoaster that was Lover Reborn, I'm going with some humor and started

I have this on my TBR list as well.  I am working on making my way through all of the Rachel Morgan series before I head off onto another series or book, but may have to push this father to the top of my list, I too keep on passing it by for some reason.

I don't know if others had this problem, but I had a really hard time getting into the 4th book (A Fistful of Charms).  It didn't really start moving for me until about the halfway point and was a little scared that the rest of the series was going to be that way too.  But am happy to report that I was sucked into For a Few Demons More right off the bat and can't hardly put it down.  Darned job is getting in the way of good reading time again....

Finishing reading...

Coming Up Next... (duh.)   :smileywink:

Re: What are you currently reading?

I just finished Bonded , another great freebie from Nicky Charles. There are certainly corny aspects of these books, and some predictability, but overall I think each one is better written that the last, but good werewolf entertainment none the less.

And I'm starting Magic without Mercy (Allie Beckstrom Series #8)  today!

Re: What are you currently reading?

[ Edited ]

I finished up the new Rob Thurman book the other day.

Doubletake (Cal and Niko Series #7)

This book is all about family...Robin hires the guys to corral the pucks during their reunion. Nico's father shows up to get the guys help finding the clan's burden, Janus, who is made of metal and kills those of their clan. Cal's brother, one of the half breeds he missed last book, shows up wanting him to help populate the world with the Auph's replacements.

Nico has a rough time in this book. He's off his game some with his father showing up and Cal almost dying when Janus attacks the first time. His relationship with Cal one of the things I like best about the books. Even though their isn't as much snarky byplay between them in this one, there are quite a few touching moments between the brothers.

Next up...I started the latest Outcast Season book that's been siting on my TBR pile.  I think this is the last one?

Re: What are you currently reading?

Last night I finished:

As Lie the Dead

And started:

Another Kind of Dead

I hope to finish this series over the weekend.  Then I need to decide where to go next. Start something new like the Hunger Game series, Kat Richardson, or Jaye Wells.  Or maybe catch up on the Black Dagger Brotherhood.  I have all these books staring at me every day.  I have so much catching up to do I do not know where to begin!

Re: What are you currently reading?

I'm having a mini-vacation, so I've plowed through a couple books during "plane" time.

I just finished Djinn  by Poppet. Overall I'd say it was "ok"- like maybe 2 stars. I kind of liked the concept, but you can tell it's an unedited free ebook. Takes place in Portland, OR, but is clearly written by a Brit ("bloody" this, and "loo" that...). Good concept, but the swiftly changing perspectives lost me too often. There were also huge gaps and I couldn't figure out what happened, pages of latin, some sort of Native American... Maybe it was supposed to be that way, as the demon was taking over, but it got really confusing. I feel it started out better and got progressively worse half way through...

Anyway.... while I was without internet access after I finished that, I started another ebook I had sitting around on my nook, which I am currently reading- Zombies Don't Cry  by Rusty Fischer.

I don't think I knew it was YA, but who cares? :smileywink: It is really funny, pretty clever, and a really fun twist on zombies. I never quite got on the zombie thing when they got popular again recently (at least yet!), but am really enjoying this little zombie "light" book!

Not sure what's next for me- May 1 is a big release day for me so I'll just be reading filler until then I think :smileyhappy: We'll see!

Re: What are you currently reading?

I'm reading a few books, actually. I tend to read more than one book at a time. :smileyvery-happy:

I'm reading Fallen by Lauren Kate, Nightshade by Andrea Cremer, Bonded by Nicky Charles, and Dead Until Dark but Charlaine Harris.

I haven't gotten far enough to really tell you what I think about the first three - I'm still unsure, although I am enjoying them - but I'm already in love with Dead Until Dark. I love her writing style the most - but the storyline is excellent as well. :smileyhappy: I first got into the True Blood series by seeing the HBO version - but as soon as I heard that it was originally a book, I just had to read it.

Not only has it explained more than one thing in the series, the writing style in the book just doesn't compare to the TV series. I hate to say it in a way, but I like the book much more! :smileyembarrassed:

Re: What are you currently reading?

I just finished reading Lover Reborn "Black Dagger Brotherhood" by J. R. Ward.  That was truly AMAZING.  That series is outstanding.  Yes it is for Mature readers, but it is definately worth it.

I am currently reading James Potter and the Hall of Elder's Crossing by G. Norman Lippert.  Someone told me about the series, so I thought I would give it a shot.
