Re: What are you currently reading?

Found this one in my travels on the weekend....  :-)  Sounds really good!

Plague Town

Ashley was just trying to get through a tough day when the world turned upside down.

A terrifying virus appears, quickly becoming a pandemic that leaves its victims, not dead, but far worse. Attacked by zombies, Ashley discovers that she is a 'Wild-Card' -- immune to the virus -- and she is recruited to fight back and try to control the outbreak.

It's Buffy meets the Walking Dead in a rapid-fire zombie adventure!

I have yet to read this series, Deb, but the cover art is stunning. Is this considered YA?

Re: What are you currently reading?

I decided to try something new so over the past week or so I've been reading Sydney Croft. That's the writing duo of Larissa Ione (Demonica series) and Stephanie Tyler (Dire Needs). Id add some links but im on the ipad and half the buttons are gone...B&N must like flash... The novels are about ACRO, a private CIA like organization staffed by people with special powers....super strength, ability to control weather, electricity, communicate with ghosts, read minds, shape shift. Of course they are out to save the world, and those with special powers, from their enemy, Itor. The series is romance but more on the erotica side....even so, I enjoyed some of the characters and Iiked how some of the couples' struggles are sprinkled throughout the whole series. It's your basic good versus evil plot but focuses more on the individual's struggles with who and what they are. And speaking of erotica (hehe).....I needed a LKH fix so I started rereading a few Anita Blake novels to get ready for the upcoming book....I cheated and started with Cerulean Sins. After I get my fix I'm going to start the new Sookie book.

I really enjoyed reading Sadie Walker is Stranded.  A great blending of horror, humor, and post-apocalyptic romance.  Madeleine Roux is welcome talent to the genre in my opinion.

Is it really as badly written as everyone has been saying? Just curious!

I'm curious what you think too- everyone here is calling them "mommy porn", and aren't they Twilight fanfic?

Re: What are you currently reading?

Don't know if everyone but me knew about this, but the first book in the Parasol Protectorate is currently on sale for the Nook for only 99 cents.  I had this on my wish list since I read Paul's review and someone else on the board had mentioned the series as well.  Thought I would share...

Soulless (Parasol Protectorate Series #1)

Overview

Alexia Tarabotti is laboring under a great many social tribulations. First, she has no soul. Second, she's a spinster whose father is both Italian and dead. Third, she was rudely attacked by a vampire, breaking all standards of social etiquette.

Where to go from there? From bad to worse apparently, for Alexia accidentally kills the vampire -- and then the appalling Lord Maccon (loud, messy, gorgeous, and werewolf) is sent by Queen Victoria to investigate.

With unexpected vampires appearing and expected vampires disappearing, everyone seems to believe Alexia responsible. Can she figure out what is actually happening to London's high society? Will her soulless ability to negate supernatural powers prove useful or just plain embarrassing? Finally, who is the real enemy, and do they have treacle tart?

SOULLESS is a comedy of manners set in Victorian London: full of werewolves, vampires, dirigibles, and tea-drinking.
