Overview
Alexia Tarabotti is laboring under a great many social tribulations. First, she has no soul. Second, she's a spinster whose father is both Italian and dead. Third, she was rudely attacked by a vampire, breaking all standards of social etiquette.
Where to go from there? From bad to worse apparently, for Alexia accidentally kills the vampire -- and then the appalling Lord Maccon (loud, messy, gorgeous, and werewolf) is sent by Queen Victoria to investigate.
With unexpected vampires appearing and expected vampires disappearing, everyone seems to believe Alexia responsible. Can she figure out what is actually happening to London's high society? Will her soulless ability to negate supernatural powers prove useful or just plain embarrassing? Finally, who is the real enemy, and do they have treacle tart?
SOULLESS is a comedy of manners set in Victorian London: full of werewolves, vampires, dirigibles, and tea-drinking.
I am going to be starting Timeless soon. I had it on pre-order but am just getting to the book. I have really enjoyed them. I consider this series a fun read. The characters are great, unique with their own agenda. I hope you enjoy them.

Badly written??? That's the first time I've heard it...wow. I actually had picked up an Entertainment magazine for a Hunger Games story and there was an article about the first book so I decided to read it out of curiosity, because they are supposed to make a movie out of it. Well, reading what the author had to say spiked my curiosity even more. I think the bad reviews are basically coming from the people who want a story and maybe a little romance...and maybe that's what they were expecting. But these books have sex...and A LOT of it...like every which way to Sunday, and every other page, LOL! Not only vanilla either, but rough sex, with "toys", bondage, BDSM...etc. etc. and I think a lot of that stuff really bothers a lot of people. <shrug>. The story has been very interesting and I've been glued throughout all 3 books...I am almost finished the 3rd. I mean, sure the guy is extremely controlling and sometimes, downright scary. But it's about him confronting his demons and Ana, the female character, helping him through it. I don't think they are badly written at all. But you need to take it with a grain of salt. There are people out there that enjoy sex that way...it's a reality. These books delve into that and as the author said in the article, "I don't see it as erotica, I see it as contemporary romance. Yes, it's quite graphic, but when people fall in love they have sex. Actually, they have a lot of sex."
One of my co-workers didn't like the first book but she was willling to give the second a try (because the second book does get somewhat "tamer")...my other co-worker found it okay...it didn't bother her.
This is why I never go by reviews...they are basically people's opinions and we all have different ones, now don't we, LOL!
Oh and as for the Twilight Fan Fic....yes it started out that way. Their names were even Edward and Bella apparently...but then she changed the names and decided to turn the story into a book...which turned into a trilogy. :-)
Thank you for the details. I agree with you on reviews. I have found I need to trust who writes them and their opinion, like the book pimp. 
It takes time to build that trust with a reviewer. So far no one at work will 'admit' to reading them.

LOL! Well the 2 ladies here bought them because we were discussing them and I told them that I had purchased the first one... They had all 3 here at the local book store for a deal so they both bought them. I don't know why people need to keep it a secret, LOL! Some of us single ladies have to get our kicks somehow, LMAO!
I'm reading Grave Dance (Alex Craft Series #2) . I really liked the first one, but I was left with so many questions! I just had to start this second one, which I"m hoping will help! I was trying to wait until just before the release of the 3rd book in July, but that didn't happen....
I am loving the Downside Ghosts series. I took a break so I could read
Deadlocked (Sookie Stackhouse / Southern Vampire Series #12) and now I am about halfway through
City of Ghosts (Downside Ghosts Series #3) . I love the character of Chess so much. She is so deeply, deeply flawed. I love how just when you think that she has hit rock bottom, she just keeps on digging. I also really enjoy the realistic, unflinching portrayal of her drug addiction. I have heard people complain that she hasn't gotten help, but I think that is part of what sucks me in more and more. It would bother me, if in one book, Chess all of a sudden became clean and sober. I think Kane would be doing a disservice to her readers. I am excited to start the next book and I am even more excited that I only have to wait a month to read the next installment.

Touched Just finished Touched - AJ Aalto. Vampires, ghouls, wiccan magic, hot sexy guys with a little romance. Very sarcastic and funny, while still being a serious page turning murder mystery thriller. She also did some homework and invented some new vamp biology! I love it when they do that. Adds a fresh element. Cool book. Definitely getting the next one.
King of Thorns this is next on my list to read and I can't wait
the author has a big internet presence as well.
In his day job he is a research scientist and he has a severly disabled daughter that he cares for, he chats about the clinics they go to and the wonderful care that they get. He also donates a lot to the places that care for the disabled children as well.
He's actually pretty much a Rennissance Man.

The Hunger Games Trilogy is EXCELLENT! :-)
I just finished Blooded by Amanda Carlson. It is a novella that is a prologue to the first book in the series Full Blooded. Blooded was a great read, great plot, great characters. I am looking forward to Full Blooded. Blooded is available as an eBook. Full Blooded would be available as eBook and paperback. Full Blooded is coming out September 11, 2012.
I'm finally reading City of Lost Souls (The Mortal Instruments Series #5) . The first 3 in the series were definitely the best, but I can't put these down once I pick them up- they're like book crack to me!

Timeless (Parasol Protectorate Series #5)
Timeless was page turner. The plot seemed more serious to me. Sometimes a series is based on the same formula and becomes predictable. This book proves this series is not like that.

Good book but way too short. This one is placed in the timeline of Warren's old novels originally published with Ellora's Cave and introduces a new group of shifters, the tigers.
Sparks Fly (Light Dragons Series #3)
Funny as always. I don't know is she will continue the Light Dragons or if this is the last.
Under a Vampire Moon (Argeneau Vampire Series #16)
Marguerite and her new life mate stumbles upon the life mate of their son, Christian. Too bad Caro thinks he's way way too young for her.
This book 1 of a new series for Bast. It's yet another series about a group of warrior....but these were all cursed by Loki, one of the Norse gods. It was pretty good.
Marked (Eternal Guardians Series #1)
I've had this one sitting on my Nook for a while. I think is was a free Friday book as some point. It's turned out to be a pretty good series. If you like the Lords of the Underworld or Feral Warriors series, give this one a try.
Again, it follows a group of men tasked with protecting their people (is it just me or is this the new go to PNR theme?). However these guys, Argonauts, are descendents from the original Greek heros...Jason, Hercules, Perseus, etc. They are fighting against Atalanta who was pissed she didn't get chosen as a Guardian and made a deal with Hades. She's out to destroy Argolea and rule the human realm. I'm on book 4 right now.
I'm smack dab in the middle of
King of Thorns and if you're like me when you find a new and exciting voice in fantasy you're always afraid the second book can't hold a candle to the first. This one not only holds a candle but it's almost better than the first, it's like he's found his stride and I didn't even know he was looking for it because the first book was that good.

Yeah I stumbled on those Anya Bast and Katie MacAlister books this weekend at the book store. :-) I am STILL trying to get the latest paperback of Elisabeth N's series...no luck. Grrrrrrrr.
