Re: What are you currently reading?

i have never figured out how to add in a link to a book however i just read God Save the Queen by Kate Locke.

I was pleasantly suprised!  At first i thought it was a little predictable but as it went along the rich detailing really made the book work.  The thing that suprised me though was the main character!  An actual 3D female character who wasn't over the top Anita Blake nor a fainting damesl  She was believable.  Her reactions were believable.  At no point in the book were you shaking your head saying Oh come on!

I would recommend this book!  Was it the best thing i ever read no,  but as far as paranormal fiction, maybe it was steampunk hard to define, it was a breeze of fresh air in a room of stale overworked characters.  No offense LKH but yes Anita is going to sleep with another man for her collection,  why even spend a paragraph trying to occlude the plot.

[ Edited ]
I can't add product links from my iPad, but I just finished Once Burned. Loved it!

I only have one real gripe with this book. Vlad wasn't nearly as witty and funny as he was in the Night Huntress books. I understand the circumstances were different, and this was told from Leila's point of view so we were seeing her perceptions of him, but still. I felt like the best part of Vlad was lost to us here. I also wish that Once Burned would have been told from his point of view instead of Leila's, or from a third person point of view like First Drop of Crimson, so we could have seen inside his head. OK, so I have two gripes and not one.

However, I did really like this book. I liked Leila a whole lot and, as always with books set in this world, I loved how plot driven the story was. I just hope we get to see more of the Vlad we all know and love in the next book.

I just started Tricked, by Kevin Hearne, and Wicked Nights, by Gena Showalter is next. :smileyhappy:

Re: What are you currently reading?

I am dying to start Once Burned (Night Prince Series #1)  , but so many good books came out all at once so I haven't gotten to it yet, darn it!

I finished my last book while I had no internet access, so I had to start a book I had already downloaded, instead of starting one of my "can't wait to read" releases... so I'm reading Big Game (V V Inn, Book 3)  right now. It seems to be moving pretty fast, so I should be able to dive into Once Burned asap!!

Fire Kissed  I started this book today and I REALLY love it.  I was hooked from the prologue, and really felt for the character, Kaye Brand from the beginning.  Even the prologue is gripping. I like the twist of angels against mages, something that I haven't really seen before.  I recommend this book to anyone and I'm hoping she has more.

Re: What are you currently reading?

Well, I wasn't going to read the second book in the Jennifer Estep series (Spider's Bite is the first) but I did--and I'm really glad.  Loved it.

Web of Lies (Elemental Assassin Series #2)    I found the first a little smarmy and "off".  But the plot was good and I liked the characters well enough that I was curious...the second has even better characterization and plotting.  Fabulous side-characters, really enjoyed the pacing...some good thriller elements.  Just a good read.

I've been posting more in the sci/fi fantasy board (because I didn't know this one was here.)

So by way of introduction, some of my favorite authors:

Patricia Briggs (of course!)

Ilona Andrews

Frank Tuttle

John Levitt

And loads more.  But you get the picture!

How is the Vampire Kisses series? And I just finished The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin this morning, and will start reading 13 to Life by Shannon Delany tonight probably.

I think it means you are in the same place in your TBR pile as the rest of us. I think I am buried in my TBR pile. I would say pick the book that falls off the pile, doesn't work with a nook. But you know what I mean. One just jumps out at  you. All the best, thanks for checking in. :smileyhappy:

Re: What are you currently reading?

A Discovery of Witches (All Souls Trilogy #1)  Yes, Yes I am a little behind in reading this book.  Totally hooked from the start though.  I love the twist she has with being a descendent of Rebecca from the salem witch trials.  Love it.  Can't wait to read the new one that is out in this series.

I didn't do the quote thingie right, SciFiCanuck...but:

I did read the next in the series:

Venom (Elemental Assassin Series #3)    I didn't like it as well as the second one.  It was still an action-packed read, but a couple of plot points didn't work well for me too well.   I'll probably read the next one after a break.  Estep has good pacing and good characters.

Re: What are you currently reading?

For some reason, I just started Silence (Hush, Hush Saga #3) , even though the main character Nora and her bff Vee drive me batty. Maybe because this is book 3 and there will be only 4 books? I don't know... we'll see how this one goes... (maybe I'm just procrastinating on my intimidating recent release TBR list... oh boy...)

I haven't started Silence either. It is in my list but I am just not read for Vee and Nora being dysfunctional. I enjoy it when I am reading it. But you need to be in the right mood. Let us know what you think of #3.

Re: What are you currently reading?

I gave up on the Hush, Hush series :smileysad: The characters kept making me want to throw the books across the room.
