Re: the Laurell K. Hamilton (Anita Blake) thread

I loved Loved LOVED Bullet!  I was so busy with everything, I lost track of it's release date and jumped up and down for joy when I went to B&N just to go look (I know, how could I do such a thing???).  Anyways, finished and AMAZING!!!! My personal opinion anyways LOL.  Very action packed.  I felt like it ended rather abruptly though, she definitely could have made it longer, but that's what the other books will be for!  I have this emptiness inside me now that is so depressed I have to wait for the next book.  Oh well....Looking forward to meeting Laurel at Dragoncon!  That will hold me over for a while! :smileyhappy:

Pleaseeeeee tell me where, what, who, is this Dragoncon? By the way I do the same just go to look and end up buying minimum 2 books every single time what can I say. Just like you can wait for the next one. Right now I'm cheating in my to read pile usually as i buy then they go to the bottom of the pile until the raise to the top but I been skipping to my favorites books as they been coming out so that's messing with my system very bad but I don't feel that guilty.

Re: the Laurell K. Hamilton (Anita Blake) thread

dragoncon.com!  Go Go Go! It has pictures, guest lists, info to get your ticket, and more!  Check it out!  I've been trying to get there the past 2 years, and by golly this year is my year! LOL.  Labor Day Weekend, I'm soooo pumped!  Pretty much going just for Laurell, but there are going to be lots of amazing people there this year!  Definitely feel like I need to watch some of the ScyFy shows though like Farscape and Stargate.  However, Laurell is the only reason I need to go!

PS SPCAT:  I have my "to read" pile too, which is larger than I remembered...I just reorganized my books yesterday, I found books I didn't remember buying!  Exciting!  I thought I needed to make a run to the book store!  But I do the same thing.  If an Anita, Merry, Sookie, or Morgan book comes out I completely pause anything else I am reading, and I have to read those!  I'm scared for the day these authors finish their series! What will I do with myself????

It must be a glitch in the system. You have the titles right. They're two different books entitled

Incubus Dreams (Anita Blake Vampire Hunter Series #12)

Narcissus in Chains (Anita Blake Vampire Hunter Series #10) .

Re: the Laurell K. Hamilton (Anita Blake) thread

You scared!!!! That makes 2 of us, my only consolation is that every day there's a new author out there that will fill the gap when the time comes, but not anytime soon. I recognize every character that you mention just by name is nice to know that I'm not the only one who talks about then like they were real. Maybe you already know this one but in case you don't here is a new one for you to love,(Mercy Thompson series) author Patricia Briggs. I know that will add more books to your pile but it's worth it.

Re: the Laurell K. Hamilton (Anita Blake) thread

I love the Anita Blake series and it didn't bother me at  when she changed her writing I enjoy the reading about her complicated love life.  I'm only on book 10 but I looking forward to reading the others.

Re: the Laurell K. Hamilton (Anita Blake) thread

I apologize for my outburst, but Anita Blake has done, has been doing and been where many vampire/mystery/fiction artists have failed today to go today. I am captivated by the series and i will not glance back at series like twilight. She has incorporated everything i love into her series~ Mystery, Fantasy, Lust, Action and Romance.

I am looking for Lend me Fans of Anita Blake and L.H.K and things alike.

Feel free to add me @ KaiserKing66@live.com.

Re: the Laurell K. Hamilton (Anita Blake) thread

I really really really really loved this series...but then it spiraled out of control.

I understand that Anita has a complicated love life...

and don't get me wrong, I enjoy reading about her trysts...

But do we have to justify it with some weird plot device?

Can't she just be wild and crazy without having to invent some crazy reason for it?

I don't know...the last few books left me feeling empty. I want my old Anita back.

A lot of fans were quite dis-pleased with how the books changed after they moved away from her just solving the vampire crimes and got really smutty.  There was a huge hullabaloo from what I understand.

I muddled through because I still love the character and all the other characters in the books.  Well, other than Richard sometimes, LOL!

I don't really mind the smut so much, just the fact that it felt so contrived.

I'm all for some hot, steamy stuff in my books, but don't just do it for the sake of doing it...make me believe that there's some purpose there.

I do still love Anita...she's still a badass, even though she's more of a slutty badass now...a slutty, penguin loving, badass. :smileyhappy:

I don't mind the smutiness either, what I mind is that LKH has added so many characters that I simply miss the regulars! I mean, we got to know them throughout tons of books, but it's like they got sent out to pasture in light of all her new lovers. I would like it much more if she focused on our faves/the usuals, then occasionally mentioned one of the new ones if it progresses the story at all. Some of the new ones don't seem to be necessary to me, just an excuse to have previously-prudish Anita add more to her repertoire.

I don't know, I'll probably read her new book, but my expectations are low. I just miss some of the guys...

I miss Jean-Claude.  When he was pushed WAAAAAY into the background the books diminished in interest in my view.

I can't remember reading any Anita Blake short stories, but it's easy to look at Hamilton's bibliography on Wikipedia, (at Laurell K. Hamilton), and then type in the book titles on a bookseller web site and read the book descriptions.

Hamilton's 'other' works listed on Wikipedia are:

  • Nightseer (1992)
  • Nightshade (1992) (Star Trek: The Next Generation authorized novel #24)
  • Death of a Darklord (1995) (TSR's Ravenloft series.)
  • "A Clean Sweep" (first story in Superheroes, a 1995 anthology)
  • Cravings (anthology, 2004)
  • Bite (anthology, 2004)
  • Strange Candy (14 published and unpublished short stories, released November 2006)
  • Never After (anthology, 2009)
  • Ardeur: 14 Writers on the Anita Blake,Vampire Hunter Series Pub. Date: April 2010

And, when you check a bookseller web site, it looks like the following anthologies have AB content:

  • Cravings (anthology, 2004)
  • Bite (anthology, 2004)
  • Strange Candy (14 published and unpublished short stories, released November 2006)

Furthermore, if you looks under 'Anita Blake'  on Wikipedia the following short stories are listed:

Short story collections

  1. Out of This World (2001) ISBN 0-515-13109-1 (Contains chapters from Narcissus in chains) (Magic Like Heat Across My Skin) and other short stories by other authors)
  2. Cravings (2004) ISBN 0-515-13681-6 (Contains the first 3 chapters of Incubus Dreams and 3 short stories by other authors)
  3. Bite (2004) ISBN 051513970X (Contains an original Anita Blake short story (The Girl Who Was Infatuated with Death-occurs in the interval between Blue Moon and Obsidian Butterfly) and 3 short stories by other authors)
  4. Strange Candy (2006) ISBN 0-425-21201-7 (Contains an original Anita Blake short story (Those Who Seek Forgiveness-the very first story ever to include Anita Blake) and other short stories by the same author)

(See Wikipedia link Anita Blake - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.)

Note, Hamilton's comic AB Vampire Hunter releases are also listed in chronological order by Wikipedia as follows:

  1. Laurell K. Hamilton's Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter: The First Death 1-2 (7 & 12/2007)
  2. Guilty Pleasures Handbook (2007)
  3. Anita Blake Vampire Hunter: Guilty Pleasures 1-12 (12/2006-8/2008)
  4. Anita Blake: The Laughing Corpse – Animator 1-5 (10/2008-2/2009)
  5. Anita Blake: The Laughing Corpse – Necromancer 1-5 (4/2009-9/2009)
  6. Anita Blake: The Laughing Corpse – Executioner 1-5 (9/2009-3/2010)
  7. Anita Blake: Circus of The Damned – The Charmer 1-5 (5/2010-10/2010)
  8. Anita Blake: Circus of The Damned – The Ingenue 1-5 (1/2011-Ongoing)
