Teresa,

The answer to your question will come at the end of Mistral's Kiss and defineately A Lick Of Frost.  But I won't say anymore than that because I don't want to spoil the books for you.  I'm sitting on pins and needles waiting for the next book to come out around Halloween.  Be interesting to see what happens.

Awesome!!  :smileyhappy:  I am finished ASOM and am about 1/4 through Mistral's Kiss now.  I can't put these books down!

I am a little worried about the pins and needles part though!  Ack!  :smileyindifferent:  I know something really sad happens to her in Swallowing Darkness...I am not looking forward to possibly bawling my eyes out, LOL!

Teresa,

It's only the last till Nov. 4, 2008 and then Swallowing Darkness comes out and I'm sure hoping that nothing happens to Merry and the babies.  But from the title I suspect that it will involve Doyle.  I hope not but I will just have to wait and see.

I am glad to hear the next Merry Gentry book is due in November - it has been hard waiting since "A Lick of Frost". Thank you for letting us know, Doug

Re: the Laurell K. Hamilton (Anita Blake) thread

I love Anita Blake...I was handed Guilty Pleasures when it came out and told "this chick sounds so much like you it's SCARY". I was hooked by the middle of the book...and have remained hooked. Merry Gentry's books just fell into place within that addiction.

The continuity of the arcs in both series is quite impressive...go back and read all the Anita books and watch the character and author growth/progression. The humans who don't get it never will...and those who do get it have a treasure.

LKH is one of the few authors I will buy without question or even opening the book/reading the jacket. I, for one, greatly enjoy reading an author who allows the characters to do their own thing in their own time...and sometimes that means going in directions no one has dared to go.

JR Ward is another author I admire for allowing her characters to become individuals and explore subject matter that pushes envelopes and buttons.

Regric:
You're completely right about LKH – I think her more vehement detractors should wait until the Anita Blake cycle is finished before they start throwing her under the bus. As a huge fan of this series, I can also see it from the readers' perspective – in some of her recent releases, the overall story arc has slowly dramatically and I think there's a lot of readers out there who are just dying to push fast forward. Hopefully, in the end, both LKH and her fans will be more than satisfied at the saga's conclusion...

Under a bus!?!(shaking head) Come on now.
Personally I judge each book as it is released. So I too am waiting for the resolution.
Although I have sentenced her to NEVER getting another hardcover price dime out of me. That doesn't mean I don't still have hopes for the overall result.

Hmmmm....Swallowing Darkness (7th in the Merry series) comes out November 4, and Blood Noir (16th/17th in the Anita series) is currently out.

Re: the Laurell K. Hamilton (Anita Blake) thread

I'm sure this is obvious to all those who read Anita Blake, but I'd just like to say she's a real firecracker, no nonsense, pulled up by your bootstraps kind of gal.

In another place...another time...if these beings that go bump in the night were really real, I don't think I'd be able to handle it. For instance, (SPOILER) the creature in The Laughing Corpse with all those human attachments hanging off of it? I'd be scared out of my wits! Of course, Anita was too but she managed to kill it...I know I wouldn't be able to do that! I'd be running aimlessly around the mansion til it ganged up on me and killed me. And that would make a terrible ending won't it?

Re: the Laurell K. Hamilton (Anita Blake) thread

Awww...sad...well, you can do either of two things:

1. Read OTHER paranormal romance novelists that are similar to Hamilton such as Kim Harrison or L.A. Banks OR

2. Do what I'm currently doing right now and re-reading all the Hamilton books to get a better grips in terms of character development. I did the same thing with all the Harry Potter books and all of Stephanie Meyer's books.

Hope this helps and makes the time pass quicker for ya. In the meantime...take care and happy reading!

*sigh*  Yeah I know...   I'm finally reading Small Favor by Jim Butcher...I've had it for like two months now!  After that I think I will read the Kitty Norville series by Carrie Vaughn.  :smileyhappy:  Believe me I have enough on my TBR pile to last me until August when The Devil You Know (Jenna Black) and Gale Force (Rachel Caine) are out !!  I've read all of Kim's wonderful Rachel Morgan series as well and plan on reading the L.A. Banks series...

Katie:
Charlie Huston is amazing! Not only is his Joe Pitt novels fantastic, his mainstream fiction is some of the best stuff out there. Read his newest, The Shotgun Rule – a classic!

Oh I love pulp noir novels so I'm really enjoying his books and already went out and bought the rest of Huston's books, including his newest.

Are you talking about the comic?  Or is it considered a graphic novel?

Anyhow, I found it at the local book store and had a look at it.  VERY, VERY cool....even though I'm not into comics....   :smileyhappy:

Re: the Laurell K. Hamilton (Anita Blake) thread

There are comic books, but the graphic novel has the comic books inside them.

Volume 1  of Laughing Corpse coming out in October 2008. Once again, I'm looking forward to reading it. I just love how her books are being put into graphic format and they're being sponsored by Marvel. Which means, could it be possible (in light of the fact all these Marvel/DC comics are being made into movies) that we might be seeing a live action Anita Blake movie some day? I know Hamilton has said that she doesn't see a possibility as of yet, but still one can dream can't one?

Re: the Laurell K. Hamilton (Anita Blake) thread

Have any of you LKH fans read Nightseer?   If so, did you like it?

I did.  I really did.  I love the way demons and their power is in that world.  It has been a year or so since I read it but I never see it discussed.  It was LKH's first novel and there are some short stories from that world in Strange candy.

I would love another book from that world.
