I don't know how old you are but an amazing young adult series is Cirque Du Freak by Darren Shan. It's about a boy who, by an unlucky turn of events, ends up becoming a vampire. The series follows how he copes with leaving his family in order to be mentored on how to survive as a vampire, his trek to vampire mountain, and the war against the vampeneze. It's an outstanding series with a nice twist on vampires. Usually vampires are portrayed as the bad guys but in this book they are the one's that you're rooting for the whole time. This was my favorite set of books for a long time and I believe that there's a movie coming out sometime in the near future based on them.
My favorite series at the moment, however, is the Women of the Otherworld series by Kelley Armstrong. It has vampires, werewolves, witches, demons, half demons, socerors (sp?) and other paranormal creatures. Each book in the series could stand alone but I find it more fun to read them in order. I would recomend starting off with the first book, Bitten, though because it's a good introduction. Bitten is about a female werewolf trying to seperate herself from her pack so she can live a "normal" life among humans; unfortunetly, it's harder than it sounds and she ends up being dragged back home to help defend her pack against other mutts. It focuses only on werewolves but starting in second book, the rest of the series has a more diverse span of paranormal characters. This series is downright amazing but just as a heads up Armstrong has added some very, *ahem*, adult scenes in the book if you get my gist. There aren't very many and they only last a page or two but still, just a warning. ![]()

As a mercenary who cleans up after magic gone wrong, Kate Daniels knows how waves of paranormal energy ebb and flow across Atlanta like a tide. But once every seven years, a flare comes, a time when magic runs rampant. When Kate sets out to retrieve a set of stolen maps for the Pack, Atlanta's paramilitary clan of shape shifters, she quickly realizes much more is at stake. The stolen maps are only the opening gambit in an epic tug of war between two gods hoping for rebirth, and if Kate can't stop the cataclysmic showdown, the city may not survive.

Ok. I feel like I am the only one who has read or liked these books. But I really enjoyed the Dante Valentine series by Lilith Saintcrow. Umm Pandora by Anne Rice is probably my favorite book by her. I have only read the Anita Blake series by Laurell K. Hamilton up to Obsidian Butterfly but those are written well. I LOVED Kelley Armstrong's Women of the Otherworld series. Blood and Chocolate I thought was written well for young adult.

Waterlily,
You are not the only one that loved the Dante Valantine series by Lilith Saintcrow but I think the reason that it hasn't been mention is that we talk with the author when the third book came out and then again last month she was here for a few days and questions were asked and answered and so if the threads were read that would give people a chance to know about the books. I know that I have read and love all Saintcrow's books.

If you want a simply superb werewolf novel, check out Nicholas Pekearo's The Wolfman. We talked about this book a few months ago. (Check out the thread below...) The guy was a NYPD cop and really wanted to be a writer. His first novel, The Wolfman, had just gotten into the hands of a Tor Books editor, when he was tragically killed in the line of duty. I'm not an overly emotional person – in fact, I think I'm pretty callous – but I cried after I read the press release for this book and I teared up when I finished reading it because – my God – it was brilliant and it would've been the first book in what could've been an amazing series. READ THIS BOOK – it truly is an instant horror classic.

I saw my debut novel Never Ceese listed and just wanted to make sure and let you know it actually covers vampires and werewolves. Also, though it is listed here on Barnes & Noble, and selling quite well, you'll have to dig deep to find the listing. I can't even get it to pop up when typing in the title. This has to do with my first publisher, Journey Stone, changing routes and dumping all their stock of my books to a liquidator.
Even if you have trouble getting this book, you may go to Amazon and pay $500, LOL, I'm not kidding! Someone is actually selling it for $500. Or you can get it from the others who are selling it for a reasonable price. You may go to www.foreverrichard.com and order an autographed copy while they last.
Never Ceese was short-listed for a Bram Stoker Award in 2007 and I'm very proud of that but I do like to stress that it does cover both vampires and werewolves. The second book in the series, Forever Richard will be out *check www.foreverrichard.com for release date*
If you're interested.
So many good books on some of these lists!
