I was definitely shocked Snape became headmaster. You have to love Hermione, though; taking Phineas Nigellus' portrait is crucial, and it's something only Hermione would have thought to do.
The seats really freaked me out. It brought to mind images of the Holocaust. That's basically what it looks like all of this could turn into. And I'm scared for Hermione, because she was on that list...
I'm scared for all of them, actually.
I would think that, even if Snape is good and is "Dumbledore's man through and through", there will probably Death Eaters and Ministry officials all over Hogwarts making sure that everything happens as they want it to. But who knows? I still haven't decided where I stand on Snape. I'll find out soon enough, I guess! On to Chapter 13!!!!!!

Did you notice how they didn't even get Hogwarts letters?
Snape (or McGonagall) knew they weren't coming back.

Yes, I thought about that too. I imagine there weren't letters this year, but some other means of communicating to the students since Hogwarts is now Compulsory and the school officials would want to make sure the students attend.

On my reread of this chapter, I noticed that Alecto(Carrow)'s name is the name of one of the Furies from Greek mythology. The Furies are Hades' minions, and they punish the dead in Tartarus with their firey whips. The three Furies names are Alecto, Megaera and I can't remember the last one.

I think that it's absolutely rediculous that Snape is headmaster. I always hated Umbridge, but now I hate her even more!

I think its terrible that snape is the headmaster. Youd think that someone would have atleast tried to stop him.

Snape doesn't seem the type for the job, does he?! He probably gives all kinds of passes and preferences to the Slytherin students!
