I have to say first that feature-wise, I love the nook... SOFTWARE wise, I am 100% satisified.
Physically? I'm mad.
Monetarily? I'm PISSED!
Just like how Apple pissed off its customers when they dropped the price of their iPhone drastically after a few months, I'm uber upset about this $60.00 drop in price... But I jumped in early when I should have waited...
Now I have discovered that the plastic that makes up the frame of the Nook, specifically the "Buttons" on the sides, was not designed to withstand even MODERATE use!
I went to my local B&N, where I bought my Nook, and they said I couldn't return it! I looked at their display model and the plastic of all 4 'Buttons' is cracked clear through from edge to edge. Barns & Noble MUST be aware of this design flaw by now, even if they didn't test it enough before release, the fact that their display Nooks are self destructing MUST have tipped them off!
Because I didn't want mine to crack any more, I put a drop of glue on to the crack itself in the hopes of preventing it from spreading but I am mad that I spent so much money on a product that was not designed well nor apparently tested for even moderate use!
I treat my electronics like they are my babies! I have a protective case for my nook, I don't "Squeeze" the buttons, I push them gently... Yet even under my caring hands, it hasn't made it a full 3 months before it cracked!
What can I do about this?
Can B&N send me out a new plastic frame?
Why was I told that 3 months was too long to return a defective product?
What are my options here?

If you search cracked cases there are plenty of responses on this. Its a known issue and they will replace your nook. The problem was the plastic bazel and the issue has supposedly been fixed

If you call Customer Service 1-800-THE-BOOK (1-800-843-2665)1-877-886-5022, you can get immediate satisfaction on the cracking buttons problem. This is a recognized issue, and B&N has been cheerfully and quickly swapping out Nooks since it arose.
Staff in individuals stores may mean well, but training is very uneven and information distribution just as uneven. Look to these boards and Customer Service first.
As for the price drop, this obviously isn't your first rodeo. You know how technology pricing works. I don't understand the rage, but maybe it's just displaced from your more understandable disappointment with the buttons.
So, call Customer Service, and get happy!

Call Customer Service at 1-800-THE-BOOK (1-800-843-2665), option 2 for Digital Support.
This is a known problem with early NOOKs, and they are sending out replacement units without any hassle at all. The new units are supposed to be redesigned to prevent the cracking.
If you give them a credit card number, they'll ship out the new unit right away, along with a return-label for your cracked NOOK. You can then do your swap-out and send back your cracked one. As long as you return your cracked one in a reasonable period of time (I think it's 2 weeks), your credit card won't be billed.

Take it back to the store and say you want to exchange it because the buttons cracked due to a manufacturing defect. THey tried to tell me I couldn't exchange mine when I brought it in for the same issue as soon as I said it was a manufacturing defect they immediately exchanged it. Just make sur eyou bring the charger and the box if you still have it - they need it for shipping it back.

Mine cracked, I called and in five minutes I had a new nook on the way with instructions on how to return my old one. Piece of cake. New nook doesn't creak like my old one. When I got the new one it took maybe ten minutes to move sideloaded books and screensavers to my computer and then to the new nook. BN books automatically updated.
Speaking of my old one. I need to go check the tracking number. They should receive it today.
