Is anyone having difficulty with ebooks punctuation with the newer version of B&N's ereader (PC)? I bought a book yesterday and in order to open it needed to update to the 2.1 version. Where ever there is suppose to be an apostrophe or quotation marks I get this instead. /a147, /a148. It is very annoying! I looked back at older ebooks I purchased and this is also occurring there. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling, but it is not fixing the problem. Has this happened to anyone else? Any ideas to correct this? I did not have a problem with any of my books before I downloaded the latest version.

My problem with it is I can't read the new ebook I purchased. It crashes everytime I try to read just that one ebook. All my older ebooks work fine. I've tried everything from manually downloading the ebook again to reinstalling the program several times. Won't open on desktop ereader but works fine on iphone. The only odd thing I noticed is that all the old books I have are in the .pdb format and the problem one is in .epub format. Shouldn't make a difference but it doesn't work and I hate reading on my iphone.

Ah, hey, good call on the .epub file type. I haven't seen the problems with the 2.1 desktop reader, but the 1.1 iPod/iPhone app chokes on me on certain books, causing me to uninstall/reinstall. After reading your post, I checked the file extension on those books, and sure enough, it is .epub, not .pdb. Now that I know, I'll try not accessing those particular books, but I'm not sure how to report a bug, or if it's a known problem that is being resolved.

I will also keep an eye out for tha epub problem. I do not like this BN formating of the old ereader however. I like being able to change color backgrounds as well as fonting or selection colors. I just updated and it sucks having White as the only background allowed. I says that background is changable but does not show up in the Settings area.
Another possible glitch it seems.

I just downloaded the new ereader and am having problems reading the book I just purchased. It skips the last line or two on each page so when I advance a page, I'm obviously missing a part of the text. If I change the size of the screen the words from the page will appear, but when I advance to the next page, there will be words missing again.

OK I am having the same problem with crashing when I try to read the new ebook I just purchased. I need to know how to fix it
Well in my case after much frustration I gave up and ordered the book from fictionwise, then imported it manually into the desktop reader. As a side note, while the original one was working on the iphone it quit while I was about halfway through it and started crashing the iphone reader. So it's most certainly the book itself and not the reader programs.

Thank goodness I'm not the only one having fits over this! I closed the program just to get away from it and all its problems, and when I reopened it, it was back to the original ereader. How did that happen? I'm almost afraid to play around with it anymore and find even more issues.
Anybody else finding B&N's site moving really slow right now? I wonder if all the new nooks, and all the ereader changeover is causing even more problems?

Dear Barnes & Noble, Please, please, please, bring back our bookshelves. They can't retire! They are doing important work in keeping my books organized. Please reconsider. (And if my nook could have the same function, I'd truly appreciate it.)

I am also extremely disappointed with the new eReader on our pc, but for an entirely different reason. On the old one, you could set it so that to turn a page, all you had to do was click anywhere on the second page. On the new one, you have to use either the itty bitty button at the top or the ittier bittier arrow at the bottom.
Fine, but.... one of the really awesome things about eBooks is their accessibilty for people with disabilities - in my son's case, he has cerebral palsy and uses a head mouse. This makes it much more difficult for him to highlight that itty bitty button and hover long enough for it to click. I would imagine it would be more difficult for people with sight issues as well. You can make the print large enough, but to navigate, B&N is going with teeny tiny. How hard would it be to put a nice big ole' button their to click on for turning pages?

As a note I have both the ereader from the Ereader.com site AND the BN reader. They were the same and could open ebooks off of any of the 3 sites.
If you are having problems with the controls the earlier ereader is usable but I would hope that BN would not break a great viewer just to have B&N logoed on it.

I'm having the same problem with the 2.1 Ereader for PC's of skipping lines when turning pages as previously reported. When I use the old version on the same book the problem disappears.
The 2.1 reader is a step backwards in my opinion. I like the features of the old version better, such as the two page view.

I am having the same exact problem. Have you figured out how to fix it? It is very distracting and it makes me almost not want to keep reading. Also, has your reader be skipping lines between pages? Mine keeps doing these things and I really want to just see plain text, all of the sentences, and puncuation.
...I am very sad right now....
Really, if I am going to pay money for a book I expect to be able to actually READ it.
That is reasonable, right?

I have the same problem with skipping lines between pages since I updated to 2.1. I emailed asking for a refund and got back a cheery, "Sorry, we don't give refunds on ebooks" reply. Really? I thought that policy was predicated on B+N actually delivering an ebook that I can read. Jerks.

My ereader 2.1 doesn't work when I maximize the application. It either produces screen artifacts or formats the book incorrectly, sometimes it just crashes outright. I've reported it to B&N but they responded that I should call them to correct the issue and honestly, I don't have that much time or even care that much. Hopefully they get it straightened out in the next version.

I just started having this problem yesterday with three new books I downloaded. I haven't had any problems with others I've read over the last two months. Has anyone found an answer for this? I hadn't noticed a software update between being able to read something successfully and not read these three novels. I don't think it has affected the books I already had downloaded.

The problem is that you have too much line spacing. Go to Settings and adjust it down from what is probably set at 120. I adjusted down to 100 (I have a 19" widescreen monitor and read with 12-pt Arial font) for the text to fit perfectly on the page.
