After reading everyones comments pushing the button 5 times quickly did the trick. But I hate completely shutting down my nook because it looses my place in my book. Having to sit and turn individual pages to get to 300 just doesn't cut it!
Thanks for everyones posts on this it was a big help.

I forgot to mention that I had airplane off all night. I suspect that was part of the power drain.

Twice in the last two days, my Nook has completely frozen. I can't put it in sleep-mode nor can I turn it off nor can I navigate to the book I'm reading. I've tried calling Tech Support. Forget about that - they just put you on hold forever. I have called a B&N store and I'm waitng for a call back. Has this happened to anyone else? If so, how do you correct it?

If it froze twice, then you must have done something the first time to unfreeze it. ![]()
There are multiple threads about frozen nooks. If you search for them, you will find a few techniques.

Just happened to me yesterday. I have been on hold this morning for 30 minutes+. A joke! Fortunately, I still have time to return this thing.

My Nook was frozen last Saturday and I was on hold for over an hour. I was told to take the back off, unscrew the battery and take it out. Then plug it into the charger and put the battery back in. I had to keep it plugged in for at least 3 hours. It worked after that. I was also told that this wouldn't happen again, but this morning it has frozen again. I am once again on hold with technical support. I think I may return it and get a Kindle if I don't get a good answer! It's so frustrating when you are in the middle of a good book!

If you are experiencing an Unresponsive NOOK
Remove the Backplate
Remove the battery
Power button for 45-60 seconds
Re-insert battery
Re-install battery
Charge NOOK
(make sure amber light shows up)

Josh, how about locking these threads with a suggestion that they search the boards? Copying and pasting the same response to 20 different threads is just helping clutter the boards. Make a sticky and be done with it. Please!

Patti35:
If your Nook is frozen, you can thaw it in your house. Do not warm it in oven or the microwave. Kidding aside, this issue has been discussed so many times. Search is very friendly and helpful to finding the answers to your questions. Here is the search I did (click on link) and you wll find the answer there: Unfreezing Nook.

My Nook froze in Start up mode.
Nothing I could do would un freeze it. I took out battery. I plugged in to CPU ...etc....basically all that you will read. I did finally get someone at Tech Support to answer call. (maybe 45min on hold) and they said...bad unit we will replace in 2 days. Ok...sad but a new one in short order...pain in the rear but ok.
Then I realized the Customer Service rep at TechSupport was wrong. Unit will not deliver for Plus 30 days.
So B&N is basically saying thanks for being customer and early adopter...but that really means nothing should our product fail...we will treat you just like a new customer.
VERY VERY BAD IDEA...SOMEONE SHOULD PAY ATTENTION AT HOME OFFICE!

Billnook: How do you know it will take 30 plus days when the CS rep told you 2?

We obviously have a problem. Not with the nook freezing up, but with answers some are giving to the questions like: "My nook keeps freezing up".
This is not the only "common" question, there are several. May I suggest that the "site administration" put the latest answer to each of these "common questions" at the top of the site and lock them so they will not get diluted with non-productive answers like " do a search for ........ and you'll get your answer".
A search might work, but many times the people asking these questions are new to the site and are worried that they are the only ones having this problem. Organizing the site with the latest "official" answer at the beginning will help Joe or Jane new guy. The remainder of the site should be devoted to comments by our more experienced owners on what they have found and are trying to bypass a problem.

Wow! It finally brought itself back to life, taking off the battery and plugging it into the computer did the trick. It then proceeded to tell me the battery was too low to run, ( note: it was fully charged), I am charging now for a couple of hours let's hope this did the trick. thanks for the advice ...

Who should I believe, the computer or user?
What method did you use to make your claim?

My daughter is having same problem. She charged it overnight and nothing. When you plug inthe power adapter, there is no charging light indicator. We plugged my adapter in, same problem. SHe is currently on hold for a second technician at tech support. My guess, we will be getting a replacement device. We have had the unit for 2 days.
