Character names...how do you pronounce them? [ Edited ]

I'm an old product of the "see/say" method of learning to read [Dick/Jane/Spot/Puff/Sally books]; I never was taught phonetics, so I'm often at a loss as how to pronounce names I've never heard. 

One I've seen in several novels now is Delia   and I don't know if it's pronounced as Deliah (as in Samson and D.....) or  Dell y ah   or  Dell ee ah or ???  

How is this name pronounced?  Silly, I know, not to know.

Great ! Can anyone think of a good way to remember AND pronounce the names in any Russian novel !!! LOL...
