Diana Gabaldon(Outlander Series)

I was wondering how many fans are out that just love Diana Gabaldon. I think her series is just great. I love the going back in time element. Claire trying to find her highlander is a dream that I think we would all love to have. I know I would love to go back in time to find my true love.

I always get excited when I know one of her books is coming out. The fact that she knows what happens and Jamie learns from Claire is great. I also love their relationship. I know Jamie would go to great lengths to save his Claire. In fact he has.

Is there anyone else out there who also loves these books.

I think this is the BEST series of books.... ever. I think my favorite part is when Claire decides to go back and finds Jamie in the print shop. When she walks in Jamie sees her and falls to the floor.

Diana Gabaldon is such an amazing author. After reading one of her books I have to reorient myself because she does such a good job drawing the reader into the story.

Re: Diana Gabaldon(Outlander Series)

Patty-Champion, I couldn't agree with you more. Jamie and Claire are that couple that I am sure we would like to be. I know I would go back in time to find my highlander, especially if her looks like Jamie.

You can just tell how much they love each other. That Claire would give up her life to go back to find him and be with him is a love so great that time can't keep them apart.

I have seen that a new one is coming out next year. I simply can't wait.

I may have to reread these books again.

Re: Diana Gabaldon(Outlander Series)

I'm SO thankful I decided to visit this book club room... I had no idea Diana was coming out with the 7th book in the Outlander series. The only "bad" part is now I have to go back and re-read the first six... darn. I've read them so many times & every time I re-read them I tell myself to go slow and savor them but as I get further into them I speed up & start skimming! It's not like I don't know what's going to happen but they're SO good I just wolf them down.

Have you read anything that comes close to the Outlander series? I haven't as yet.

Re: Diana Gabaldon(Outlander Series)

Patty-Champion, The only other series that may come close is J.D. Robb's  In Death series. I love the realtionship between Eve and Roarke. You can just see how much they care about each other. God forbid if anyone comes after Roarke, because Eve would kill them and the same goes for Roarke.

The series Faye Kellerman has with Peter Decker and Rina Lazarus is also another great couple. I love her mysteries, but I can see their love.

Catherine Coulter's FBI series is good for mystery but the love between Savich and Sherlock is also there.

As far as the going back in time series, Outlander for me is at the top of the list. I think that Diana Galbaldon is just great. You can tell she has done tons of research. She know how to develop a story that keeps you wanting more. I am so very glad that she wrote these books. I have them all and as soon as the new comes out I will be getting it.

Let us hope that once she finishes this series, she will have another great couple for all of the enjoy and get to love just as much.

I highly recommend her books to people. I know they have a lot of pages but are well worth the time you spent reading them.

It was great talking to you.

Eve & Roarke and Rina & Peter are 2 of my favorites also. Another couple that I like are Goldy Bear &  Tom Schulz from Diane Mott Davidson's series. Jo

This is a great series. They're definitely an easier read than Outlander - but the whole series is really good. There are recipes in them too. I've made a few and boy are they good!

I recently downloaded the audio version of Outlander... and even though I practically know the book word for word, the audio version really brings it to life. I highly recommend listening to it. My poor dog has to go on extra long walks because that's the only time I let myself listen to it (otherwise nothing around the house would get done :-) and we keep going for a lot longer than usual.

Re: Diana Gabaldon(Outlander Series)

I too love Gabaldon books.  Have all the hardbacks & the audio books.  The audio just puts you right there.  But I also have to own & hold the books.  Have you read the Sara Donati series that has Claire & Jamie's nephew in it?   The first one is Out of the Wilderness.  My understanding is that the authors are friends & discovered that they were writing books set in the same area so they allowed Claire to appear in Sara's book.  I was so shocked when I realized that I was reading about them.  Sara Donati has several books in her series & I honestly can't remember which one they appear in but it was one of the first.  Her books are not time travel but are historical fiction.  She is a super writer & the books are big like Diana's.  Hope you try them.

Re: Diana Gabaldon(Outlander Series)

There is some magic in Outlander that has me suggesting it to everyone I meet.  Part of the beauty of the series is that it crosses so many genres...sort of like getting a small taste of romance, mystery, adventure, history, paranormal.  It is by far my all time favorite & a must have.  I often wonder how it took me until late 2007 to discover these novels, and I shudder when I look back to see just how many poorly written inferior novels I had wasted my time on.  I just hope if it ever is translated to the big screen, they do it justice.

Another series I have heard mentioned by fellow Outlander fans is Th

I usually don't like Romance novels, but Diana Gabaldon cought my eye.  I got the recordings from the library, and was hooked after the first Outlander book.

I am SO READY to start discussing Outlander!  I'm ready to re-read it.  Do the discussions begin September 1?

Hi!  I've become an ardent fan.  Right now I'm listening to Dragonfly in Amber.  I'm getting close to the end and hope to find the remaining four books on CD (unabridged, of course).  If not, then I'll get the books.  Glad to know there are other kindred spirits out there!

Re: Diana Gabaldon(Outlander Series)

I just started Voyager and I know it's almost 900 pages but at page 300 something I'm already wishing there were more pages.

No one tells a story like Diane and Jamie and Claire are such incredible characters with a love that actually stands the test of time and then some. And even though I'm not a big fan of brutality in my reads I think it really needs to be in the pages of the Outlander series, it's such a crucial part of the story.
