Angela - This is FAR from a user friendly site, so don't ever be afraid to ask!
For some reason, the reply key at the lower right works better than the one at the upper left. (Go figure!)
Choose the comment you want to respond to and use the green reply key (lower right!) to open a new comment box.
When the new box opens, you'll see "Rich Text, HTML and Preview" in black boxes on the left. On the right, the black boxes say "Spell Check" and "Quote." If you click "Quote" it will paste in the comment you are responding to.
Type in your response under the line at the end of the pasted comment.
If you want to recommend a book or add a link to the book you're reading, click "Add Product." It's in the shaded gray line above the white comment box. (You'll find it directly underneath the "Spell Check" box.)
After you click "Add Product," choose whether you want to link a book, ebook, movie, etc. Then click "Add link and image."
