How many of you e-read?

I charge mine at night while I'm sleeping, but you can read and charge at the same time if you have an outlet handy. If you already carry a book in your purse then you can carry the NC or any ereader. They are a lot slimmer although heavier than a paperback. I don't know about the rest of you readers, but I've had fun picking out just the right cover for mine. We've had a blast at work comparing our accessories.

I haven't been able to accurately time how long the battery lasts. I've read on it constantly for several hours and it looks to be about half used.

 I read with it plugged in when I'm near an outlet and I also plug it in at night.  I know having it online seems to use more battery power.   I make sure it's fully charged when I take it with me to the doc, airport, etc.

I check out a lot from my local library.  I rarely buy them.  Only if I am really anxious to read it and the library does not have it.

Yes, check out ebooks from a public library.  Many libraries now offer or will soon ebooks for digital checkout, just as they do print ones. The check out time will vary with library.  After the given time, it is no longer readable on your ereader and others can download it.  Most of these appear to allow a given number of people to download for a given period of time.  It's the same idea as a library having only a given number of a specific title and so others must wait until one is available, etc.

I'm looking forward to this coming to my own small town (5,000 people) library in February, thanks to a consortium of libraries in my part of the state that can afford this service by grouping together.

Hi all, just found this thread.

Ever since I bought my Nook Color at Christmas time I've been utterly addicted, despite swearing only a book in print was a "real" book. haha

I have read non stop on it. I had a friend from France ask me to read her Amazon book and I could only read it on my computer. That was more difficult but after awhile you become so engrossed you forget where you are. I can say though, I won't make a habit of reading eBooks on the computer. It's only because of the Nook that I read eBooks at all. I've not had any major issues with it either.

I do collect some authors books so if I did read one on eBook I would, most likely, purchase it in print.

I ordered LOOSE ENDS, Tara Janzen's latest, long before it came out so I was very disappointed when I still hadn't received it a couple days after it was released. I went to my local book store, where they had just sold their last copy.

Then I had a EUREKA! moment and realized I could buy it as an ebook - no waiting! By the time the book arrived, I had already finished reading it. That was fine with me - the paperback went straight on my keeper shelf!

I LOVE THIS SERIES! (I recommend starting with book one, but they are all really good!)

I received a Nook for Christmas.. Best gift EVER!  I used to buy books and get them from the library. Now I buy eBooks and get both physical books and eBooks from the library. I love the convenience of my Nook. I can tote it everywhere. I do not need to hold it open while I am drinking coffee or eating my lunch. (LOL). I also love the free nookbooks. I have found a lot of series in the under $5.oo section. They offer book 1 of series for .99cents.. Of course I then have to buy all of the books in the series. Once you go Nook you can't go back. I imagine, I would buy a book again if it was signed or something I wished to collect, but having moved 7 times in my married life, shipping books all over is ridiculous. On the last move I donated all but a few to be shipped to women in a third world country.

I have the Nook App on my laptop, but I've haven't made up my mind about getting an e-reader yet.  There are some books that only come in the ebook format, so I have some of them on here.  The Nook looks like something I would love, since I'm enamored of electronic things. 

Also, I've noticed not all books are in the ebook format.  Since that's the case and you practically have to beg publishers to consider converting a book to the electronic format, I'm not sure I want to go through all of that.  I'd rather just continue with the real thing.  Besides not all books in ebook format come out the same day as the paper or hardcover copy.  I don't like that at all.  I don't understand why they both can't be released at the same time?

I plan on getting an ereader one day, but for now, I'm not there yet.  I still love holding that book in my hand, smelling that new book smell and flipping those pages for real.

I think publishers will be releasing books in e form as fast as they can. It's to their financial advantage. Think of all they save in printing/storage/shipping charges when they can get it out digitally.  The authors supposedly get a high % of the sale, so they're happy. When you consider there's no need for ripping book covers and returning those for credit by the book stores, disposing of those remainder books, shipping if they're returned for disposal, digital has so many advantages.

Obviously the publishers will have to continue to print until a larger % of the population has a digital reader.  However, it seems that with Borders in $$ difficulties, with B&N adding games, children's things to their stores, they see the handwriting on the wall and are changing their inventory for their bricks and mortar stores.

I doubt I'll buy any print book that's available in eformat.  I'll only buy those oldies which aren't available.  I'll get rid of those I have in print as I buy and download the eformat.

I may be in the minority, but that's how I see this new publishing world.

I'm a hardcore bibliophile, who thought I would never be able to switch from my hardcovers and paperbacks over to a digital format, but I am now a seasoned Nook owner.  (My cat was the deciding factor when she declared war on my paperbacks...Tripping over 20 - 30 books twice a day was less than fun, so I bit the bullet and bought my Nook.)  I have had my Nook for a year now and I can tell you that it was shockingly easy to make the switch.  I have more than 300 titles on my Nook, the vast majority of them historical romance...(Hmm, am I sensing a literary theme, here?)

Before I got Nook I was averaging between 6 - 8 books/week.  Now that number has increased to around 8 - 10 books/week, if I can get away with it.  I suffer from ADHD and am easily distracted...(Oh, shiny object....); one major thing I have noticed with my Nook is that I have not only become a faster reader, but a more thorough reader, as well.  With all the text concentrated on the 6 inch eink screen, my mind wasn't trailing off.

Two final factors clinched my absolute adoration in my Nook. The first being the savings; my Nook has paid for itself a couple times over already.  The second, for those of you who have ever moved a library, is the time and space it saved when I moved this past fall.  A year prior I moved taking a library of 34 boxes of books after I forced myself to donate another 16.  I still have the original 34 boxes to move, but I didn't have the additional 300 titles that were on my Nook.  I can see my bookcases again and my cat is at peace with me and my books.

I have Nook for my PC, and I love it!! I still buy hardcovers to complete my sets, but other then that I buy ebooks. I'm always up for lending if anyone is intrested. I have around 150 books on my Nook mostly all romance.

I was an ereader hold out until last September.  I thought I would always love the feel of a good book in my hand.  For my birthday, my husband, coworkers, friends and parents all bought me B&N gift cards because I am a book addict.  It was enough to almost pay for my Nook 3G.  My husband has been complaining for years about my books being everywhere and taking up so much space.  When we were forced to move from Florida back to Maryland, all of my books did not fit in the moving van we could afford and so I was forced to give them away.  I chose a women's shelter to give them to, which is a great thing.  But I still missed my books with a passion.  They become a part of me that I cannot describe.  That being said, my husband encouraged me to use my gift cards to buy an ereader.  He had done the research and picked out the Nook 3G for me.  I took his advise and bought it.  BEST IDEA EVER!  I always have my whole library with me.  If I want to download a book right there, I can.  I love it, love it love it.  Then tragedy struck last week and my Nook died.  I had to wait for a replacement and in the meantime took a book from my TBR pile.  I couldn't believe how much I couldn't stand holding a "real" book and trying to flip through pages with an 8 month old or while eating lunch out, sucked.  With my Nook it is just a swipe of my finger.  I can lay the Nook flat on the table while I eat.  I was so depressed.  My replacement came yesterday and I am soooo happy to have it back.  I still have my TBR pile, but I have a feeling I may end up buying the books for the Nook and giving away my real books.

I love my nook color. It is the only way I read books for myself now.  I love how I can change the settings for different books and light settings.  I charge it at night and usually listen to music on it as well.

I also love my nook color.  I charge mine at night also but I have noticed if you aren't using wifi you should turn it off while reading and it helps the battery to last a bit longer.  I will never buy another hard copy of a book again.  It's so much easier to hold and I love the having the ability to change size of fonts.  These eyes are getting old and I need bigger print.  I don't feel as though we are be unfaithful to literature by using a nook or any other kind of ereader because it's not the medium we are using to read that's important but the actual words we are reading.  I never hide my romance novels but I have to admit some covers can be a bit much.

Due to fact that my reading habits threatened to take over the home, my husband bought me a Nook in March of 2010. Then for Christmas, he upgraded me to the Nook Color. I love it. I primarily e-read. But I have been known to sneak a book into the home from time to time. (oops :0)You see I'm a border-line hoarder when it comes to books. LOL I've always been. So I have a small allowance each month for my e-books and when it's gone it's gone.

Yes, I have bought an e-book then bought the paperback. "Darkness Dawns" debut book by Dianne Duvall. An EXCELLENT vampire romance, definately recommend.

I have been an avid reader my entire life. I thought of getting an e-reader when they were first introduced, but to be honest I found something comforting about holding a physical book in my hands. However, after one too many nights of the bedside lamp being on because I just couldn't put the book down just yet (Let's face it, you all know how it is when you get to a really good part of the book... doesn't matter how tired you feel or how gritty your eyes get, or who you're keeping up with the light on, you just can't put the book down. lol), my husband got me a NOOK Color for Mother's Day. I absolutely love it! I find I have more books at my fingertips, I never lose my page and I don't have wait til I have time to go to the bookstore. I charge mine at night while I'm sleeping and take it with me everywhere. I honestly don't know why I held out for so long.

I always felt that I could never give up books, I love a new book, how it feels and smells, I can find it on a self without reading the spine, because I remember just how it looked. But I did buy a nook, and am surprised at how much I love it. I still look at new books, I can't find them on shelves like an old friend because with an ebook you don't get a feel for the size and design of the whole book.

Now I have to remember that everyone in the B&N Community are not using an e-reader!

I totally agree with you about loving the feel of a book, and yes I have a Nook too, but only out of necessity, most of the publishers are going more and more to arcs in eform, so the publications I review for require  me to either have an e-reader or kill a thousand trees a month, so the e-reader. I read an article about how e-readers are killing book stores, but my take is that it's the wave of the future and you've either got to keep up or give up.

Now my many many bookshelves at home are still overflowing but I must also have over 200 books on my Nook already.
