Movie and stage actor, Jude Law, is currently playing Hamlet on Broadway for a limited run.
Has anyone been to see it?
If you haven't seen it, would you like to go; do you plan to go?
Here's some info. on early reviews.
I'd like to see it, even though it sounds like Law's portrayal is a bit more physical than "brooding," if you know what I mean. I like me a "brooding" Hamlet. Ha. ![]()

I saw Jude Law's "Hamlet" this past Wednesday, November 11th. I very much liked Mr.. Law's portrayal of the Dane. His acting was energetic and quite engaging. I found the experience most enjoyable. It's good to have Shakespeare back on Broadway!

Thank you, WomBat! I heard one comment about his performance that said it was maybe more energetic, as you say, than "brooding." Do you know what I mean? Hamlet's struggle was externalized in the acting, as it were, rather than internalized, or something like that. Would you agree with that?

I'm excited! We have tickets for Jude Law's Hamlet! Will let you know what we think -- if we don't end up having to give them to someone else. I'm almost afraid to post!

Fantastic, Pepper! Afraid to post? Why? You MUST post about it after you see it! Ha!
I've been so tempted to go but haven't yet, and I know there's not much time left on the run.

Afraid to post? Why?
Pure superstitition. That something might jinx our chance to go.
Still excited. We got tickets by walking up to the box office.

Yes, I do agree. His portrayal is more of an outward manifestation of his inner turmoil. I really did think his performance was super. He puts his all into it and it shows.

Thanks, WomBat. Good luck, Pepper!
It's looking like I'll probably miss it, but I would love to go.

I quite agree. I am so....ooo glad we got to this performance.
I spent the past three days almost immersed in Shakespeare performances, starting with Kenneth Branagh's film (the one I most closely followed with reading the text), then excerpts of Mel Gibson's performance (sorry, I was tired that night and fell asleep), and finally Laurence Olivier's performance before seeing the live production on Broadway this afternoon.
I could rave about Jude Law's performance (unfortunately, I don't think all the supporting cast is nearly as strong). Of the four recently viewed performances, Law's was by far my favorite -- at least in part because he made so many of his movements and facial gestures, as well as innuendoes of the text so very current. He was both bawdy and intellectual student, both moody and devious prince, both loving and rebellious son, both sweetly passionate and passionately abusive lover, both sanely mad and madly sane... And many roles and nuances beyond these. A tour de force.

Ooh. Thanks so much, Peppermill, for letting us know what you thought. I really enjoyed reading your comments about Law's performance. Sometimes getting oneself to Broadway to see a play can be a challenge (time, cost, travel), but the result is almost always memorable. I'm so glad you enjoyed Jude Law's interpretation of the role!
