Since 1997, you’ve been coming to BarnesandNoble.com to discuss everything from Stephen King to writing to Harry Potter. You’ve made our site more than a place to discover your next book: you’ve made it a community. But like all things internet, BN.com is growing and changing. We've said goodbye to our community message boards—but that doesn’t mean we won’t still be a place for adventurous readers to connect and discover.

Now, you can explore the most exciting new titles (and remember the classics) at the Barnes & Noble Book Blog. Check out conversations with authors like Jeff VanderMeer and Gary Shteyngart at the B&N Review, and browse write-ups of the best in literary fiction. Come to our Facebook page to weigh in on what it means to be a book nerd. Browse digital deals on the NOOK blog, tweet about books with us,or self-publish your latest novella with NOOK Press. And for those of you looking for support for your NOOK, the NOOK Support Forums will still be here.

We will continue to provide you with books that make you turn pages well past midnight, discover new worlds, and reunite with old friends. And we hope that you’ll continue to tell us how you’re doing, what you’re reading, and what books mean to you.

Goodreads.com

hey everyone, i don't know if you've ever heard of Goodreads.com, but its a lot like barns&noble.com, but with only the book review, clubs, etc....... well, I've been using both lately, and i got to say, people can be kinda harsh when it comes to reviewing books on goodreads.com. i had some of my favorite books, trashed talked, and let down by 100's of people. i hope the real authors don't go on there to often. so if any of you guys go on that website, what do you think of it? (not saying its a bad site or anything). (if you have a account, you should add me) lol

Re: Goodreads.com

There has been a lot of discussion lately on blogs about how some people are just being plain mean when they give a bad review. It is ok not to like a book but some people are going so far as to attack the authors. Lisa Desrochers, author of Personal Demons  recently talked about this issue on her blog. If you don't like a book then you can say it nicely without attacking the person who wrote it was basically her opinion on the topic.

I like goodreads for the fact that there is so many different discussions to join in on and there is one or more for everyone. I also like that they will have release dates on their site that many others such as barnes and noble dont even have listed yet. Plus they also giveaway books on goodreads.com.

Re: Goodreads.com

your right, if they have any respect for writers "at all", they would give nicer opinions on what they thought of the book. also, i didn't know you could do all that on goodreads. i'll look into that later :smileyhappy:

Re: Goodreads.com

I love Goodreads and am constantly on it. It's one of the main places where I find books I want to read. It also helps me keep up with new books that are haven't come out yet. I think it's really helpful because a lot of time I'll use Goodreads to look up reviews/ratings to help me decide if I want to spend time reading a certain book. There are always going to be good, bad and mean reviews. Unfortunately, there are always going to be those mean spirited people out there on every book review website. I think you just notice it more on Goodreads because there are so many people using it, there are probably more mean reviews.

Re: Goodreads.com

I totally agree with you! i am on it a couple times a day. I am obsessed! Its so easy to follow authors and keep track of what you personally have read. I love love love it. I have like 200 some "to-read" books. Honestly i have never read a book i didnt love. Because if i dont like it, i dont finish. There is giving honest feedback and just being plain critical.

Plus the first reads is soo sweet i won a book off of there and squeed!

Re: Goodreads.com

Awesome! I'll have to look it up and tell my friend, who just published her first book. Sounds like an awesome site!

Oh, and my friend's story is called "Clara Claus", and I'm reading it now and its awesome. It's not on B&N now, sadly, but you can look her up on google and find it. Her name's "Alexandra Lanc", and her book is awesome! She has more coming out soon, too, and I'm soo excited!

Re: Goodreads.com

If people changed their opinions, it would not be cosidered an opinion of their own. Everyone has different taste and you must accept that, even if you don't agree with it.
