Since 1997, you’ve been coming to BarnesandNoble.com to discuss everything from Stephen King to writing to Harry Potter. You’ve made our site more than a place to discover your next book: you’ve made it a community. But like all things internet, BN.com is growing and changing. We've said goodbye to our community message boards—but that doesn’t mean we won’t still be a place for adventurous readers to connect and discover.

Now, you can explore the most exciting new titles (and remember the classics) at the Barnes & Noble Book Blog. Check out conversations with authors like Jeff VanderMeer and Gary Shteyngart at the B&N Review, and browse write-ups of the best in literary fiction. Come to our Facebook page to weigh in on what it means to be a book nerd. Browse digital deals on the NOOK blog, tweet about books with us,or self-publish your latest novella with NOOK Press. And for those of you looking for support for your NOOK, the NOOK Support Forums will still be here.

We will continue to provide you with books that make you turn pages well past midnight, discover new worlds, and reunite with old friends. And we hope that you’ll continue to tell us how you’re doing, what you’re reading, and what books mean to you.

Has the Twilight Saga Raise the Bar?

I am a lover of books and of the Twilight Saga. I have noticed that since these books have came out that people tend to compare other dark romance or vampire novels to these sensational books, calling other books cheap imitations or another twilight wannabe. Has Stephenie Meyer's changed the "Status Quo" of books that fall under this genre?

Tell me what you think. :smileyhappy:

Well, Stephenie made it very hard to find a book better then Twilight. So, I guess she did.

Re: Has the Twilight Saga Raise the Bar?

Yeah, I think so because the other teen vampire books I've read don't compare to Twilight.

Re: Has the Twilight Saga Raise the Bar?

i don't think it really raised the bar for me.

it's definitely my favorite book but i can like another book a lot too.

i love the blue bloods series and a bunch of other books.

so of course no book can touch it in my library but i still love other books as much as i would even if i haven't read twilight.

Yeah , I think so. I personally don't compare, but I know others do.

Re: Has the Twilight Saga Raise the Bar?

I'm not going to compare other vampire books to Twilight because each author's interpretation of the perfect vampire is so different, and there are a lot of really well written vampire books out there, but I'll probably compare love stories to it from now on.

exactly.

the only other vampire books i've read are the anne rice and blue bloods.

they are all so different. and SM doesn't exactly follow in the lines of waht "real" vampires are supposed to be from other lore.  but whatever, i love them all.

but no, she hasn't raised the bar. every on here thinks so because not everyong has been exposes to/appreciated/ better quality writing and literature.

Hey Stephen, I could give you fifty reasons why I should be the one you chose. Those other girls, well, they're beautiful, but would they write a song for you?

I love to read and write poetry/lyrics and short stories. The layers of music fascinates me. Someday, I want to do movie soundtracks, maybe, or teach. The book to movie transition fascinates me to the extreme. I've been mesmorized by the way Harry Potter and Twilight and so many others have been brought into movies is something I think I would love to do.

i'm not even that attracted to guys if they're not pale and don't resemble rob pattinson.

which is pretty pathetic, i know.
