Hey Everyone! My name is Abbey; if there are any inquiries as to my User Name, it was a stupid nickname I acquired when I was in high school and it kinda just stuck. Anyway, I'm an accounting major entering my senior year of college and am so excited to graduate. I'm one of those people who likes to read teen novels even though I'm not a teen anymore. I'm only 21, so I guess that's not that much older than a teen. I read sci-fi/fantasy novels almost exclusively; there are very few non-SF/F novels that I've read that I've enjoyed. What can I say? I'm a nerd-at-heart, and proud of it! My favorite books at the moment are: The Mortal Instruments Series, The Hunger Games Series, The Twilight Series, and The Inheritance Trilogy. I have a ton of books on my bookshelf that I'm dying to start reading, but it is hard to find the time to just sit and read. Now that I am on summer vacation, that time seems to present itself more frequently, but when I go back to school in the fall, I'm afraid I will have to trade a fantasy novel for an accounting textbook. Ugh! Anyway, I'm excited to get acquainted with this B&N Community thing, chat with you guys, and, hopefully, get some good book recommendations!

Thanks Bookwerm Im looking forward to talk about different books maybe this group can start like a booklist we can discuss every month or something. Just an Idea think it would be cool.
Hey Abbey Welcome!! Im also an older person reading Young Adults books and I'm too a nerd at heart. i think we have alot of the same books in common. I also have read the Hunger Games and is waiting till August for the last one and waiting ever so patiently for the last book of The Inheritance Cycle whenever that will be lol but i have a few recomdations that i have from my own book colection if u wanna hear them. They are as followed The Immortal Secrets of Nicholas Famel by Micheal Scott , The Heir Series and Seven Realms by Cinda Williams Chima and anything James Pattersons YA books and there is the Harry Potter Saga. Those are a few i have read and is in my personal collection.

Thanks jcurrier82! I'll have to look into the Heir Series; that's a series I haven't even heard about. I have a few James Patterson books on my bookshelf that I will get to eventually, and I've read the Harry Potter series so many times I've lost count. Those books will forever be on my favorites list!!

Is this topic still open?
I'm new to the B&N community here but I've loved books forever.
You can call me Freya, I'm a decade and a half old, and I'm a Christian.
I got a nook for my last birthday, and between all of us I'm in love! lol My family likes it too because now I'm not trying to convince them to take me to the bookstore three times a week.
My favorite book ever is.........ok, who am I kidding, I can't pick a favorite book ever!
A few that I do love are: Maximum Ride (the whole series!), Brightly Woven, The Hunger Games, Catching Fire, (Can't wait for Mockingjay!) Wings, Spells, I'd Tell You I Love You But Then I'd Have To Kill You, Cross My Heart and Hope To Spy, Don't Judge A Girl By Her Cover, Heist Society, (Can't wait for Only The Good Spy Young too!) The Books Of Bayern, The Specialists series, The Charmed Life series,...and there are many more but I'll stop at that for now!
Freya (aka DayDreamingBookGirl)
p.s. did you know that hippopotomonstrosesquippedaliophobia is the fear of LONG words? PErsonaly I find that VERY ironic. lol and no, I don't really have it! Other wise I probably couldn't tell you about it... but seriously you can Google it, it's true! (I also like spelling long words, in case you didn't notice. I memorized hippopotomonstrosesquippedaliophobia)

Hello, Freya! That is very ironic that hippopotomonstrosesquippedaliophobia is the fear of long words. That is pretty funny. We have a lot of the same books in common. And I know, how can anyone pick a favorite book? That must be very hard, and the book has to be real good!
Hi, you can call me Jo. Yes I am girl, because Jo is for girls and Joe is for boys. But it's not my real name :-D. I love to read and write. (no wonder with reading, why would I be on this anyway?) Fantasy, romance, and thrilling books interest me the most. I want to have my own library one day. That would be the best. Summer is here, and I am very excited for it! Reading books out in the sun, and writing in notebooks. Just the perfect day. Also want to get a job over the summer. To save up for anything I may need in the future.

im jet or southrnbella either ones fine by me. I'll just keep this short and simple, i am 21 and im a teen read addict lol j/k. I go to school and work and I find that books are one of the only things i can enjoy alone. I don't just enjoy YA books, i really read an assortment of everything. (you have to try it to know if you like it)...i hope to get to know yall and finally have some people to talk to about books...
*live the life you love...love the life you live*
06-07-2010 10:07 PM
Hi Jo! Ha! That's funny, Freya's not my real name either, It's just my pen name, I'm finding that people don't really like just calling you be your B&N name or whatever. lol
But Oooh I got a reply! How exciting!
It's amazing how exciting it is to meet someone else who shares similar book taste isn't it? Cause then you know you can blab about it and they most likely won't care. LOL
Have you read the Hunger Games series? I was reading other topics on here earlier and I read one from a girl that says she thinks Gale or Peeta is going to DIE! Ah!
Ok, OK, so if you haven't read them then I'm probably just making no sense, but it's a love triangle and it would be horrible if one of them died! *deep breaths Freya, deep breaths* *mumbles to self*
Ok I'm good. LOL I know, I know, I'm a little weird, but that's OK!
Hey, I love your saying! IT's one of those saying s that makes you sort of sit back and think about it. I like deep things, so I find it really cool when someone writes something that just makes you think; wow. So you're really cool.
I know what you mean about favorite books! It sounds impossible! Each new awesome book I read flies into my "Awesome Book List" (it's a mental list, for the record ) How could one book possibly trump all others? There are awesome things in EVERY book! Speaking of which have you heard anything about Paranormalcy? Now that book sounds cool! Here's a little synopsis from the author (Kiersten White's website):
Evie’s always thought of herself as a normal teenager, even though she works for the International Paranormal Containment Agency, her ex-boyfriend is a faerie, she’s falling for a shape-shifter, and she’s the only person who can see through paranormals’ glamours.
But Evie’s about to realize that she may very well be at the center of a dark faerie prophecy promising destruction to all paranormal creatures.
So much for normal.
You should see the cover! Wow is it gorgeous! It's going to be an eBook too!! yay! (yes I did jump up and down when I heard that, why?) LOL
I'm also thrilled about Halo by Alexandra Adornetto! It's a book about angels! And not fallen ones! Here's the synopsis:
Three angels are sent down to bring good to the world: Gabriel, the warrior; Ivy, the healer; and Bethany, a teenage girl who is the least experienced of the trio. But she is the most human, and when she is romantically drawn to a mortal boy, the angels fear she will not be strong enough to save anyone – especially herself – from the Dark Forces.
Is love a great-enough power against evil?
Then there's Linger by Maggie Stiefvater, Only The Good Spy Young by Ally Carter, Nightshade by Andrea R. Cremer, Sleepless by Cyn Balog, Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins, Angel: A Maximum Ride novel by James Patterson..And so many more! Do you read Maximum Ride? Angel: A Maximum Ride novel (book 7) has a synopsis out! (yes I did scream when I figured that out, why do you ask?) Here it is:
In the seventh book in the bestselling series, evil scientists are still trying to convince Max that she needs to save the world, this time by providing the genetic link in speeding up the pace of evolution. Worse, they're trying to convince her that her perfect mate is Dylan, the newest addition to the flock. The problem is that, despite herself, Max is starting to believe it.
Fang travels the country collecting his own gang of evolved humans, but the two separate flocks must unite to defeat a frightening doomsday cult whose motto is Save the Planet: Kill the Humans. And this time, the true heroine, for once, might just be little Angel.
Ok, are you sick of my synopsis-es yet? I'll assume so and shut up on them. LOL
Oooh a library! That sounds awesome! I want to be an author, I've been writing forever, but I only started writing novels in 2007. I'm hoping to try to get published next year! Exciting and scary thoughts! LOL
So what do you write in your notebooks?
So what kind of job are you hoping to get? (if you're uncomfortable answering any of my questions you don't have to, although take confidence in the fact that I'm not some kind of freaky stalker or something! ) But I am a curious one, that's why I ask a ton of questions, so sorry about that, and you're probably sick of reading this now so I shall go!
Yours Randomly (and non-hippopotomonstrosesquippedaliophobia-ly,
P.S.. I did that laule or laurel or whatever thing, I don't know exactly what it means but I think I'll get to know when you reply to me or something...Sorry still figuring this out! LOL
06-08-2010 11:43 AM
I'm a teen read addict too! I noticed no one had replyed to you on the main page thing-y here yet so I thought I would!
So let's talk books!
What are some of your favorites? I'd ask for your favorite in general but I'm not quite convinced that it's possible to have ONE favorite book! I have about 15 that I can think of off the top of my head! LOL
I like Brightly Woven by Alexandra Bracken, Shiver by Maggie Stiefvater, The whole Maximum Ride series by James Patterson, The Twilight series is OK, The Books Of Bayern by Shannon Hale, The Specialists by Shannon Greenland, The Squad by Jennifer Lynn Barnes, The GAllagher Girl series by Ally Carter, Heist Society, also by Ally Carter, The Hunger Games series by Suzanne Collins, Just One Wish by Janette Rallison, The Dark Guadrian series by Rachel Hawthorne, Wings by Aprilynne Pike, Spells, also by Aprilynne Pike, Rob&Sara.com by P. J. Peterson, The Mediator series by Meg Cabot, The Pace by Shelena Shorts, The Charmed Life series by Jenny B. Jones, Caleb + Kate by Cindy Martinusen-Coloma, and-Ok yeah, I'll stop. LOL I could talk about books forever! Have you read the Hunger Games and Catching Fire? I love 'em! I was reading a topic on here the other day and the girl that wrote it said she was pretty sure Gale or PEeta was going to die! :'( I hadn't considered that, but it would be very tragic! Ok, if you haven't read them then you're probably thinking I'm weird, so let me explain: It's a love triangle. Enough said. LOL I'm Team Peeta!
What about Maximum Ride? I was so sad in Fang when Fang (yeah the book's name is Fang and the character who leaves is Fang-he's also the love intrest) I was so mad at James Patterson for doing that! But then I read the synopsis for Angel (book 7 that'll come out next year) and I felt a little iddy-bit better. Not a ton, but at least now I know that Max (she's the heroine) and Fang are going to see each other again in the next book!
Okay-sies, I'll go ahead and post this, I can't wait to see what kind of books you like, and if we like some of the same ones we can blab about them, and if we like different ones we can recommend them to each other!
06-08-2010 05:27 PM
My name's Karen. I have an open mind about any book suggested to me and I've read many of the popular teen books out there at the moment. You know, Twilight Saga, The Host, Hunger Games, House of Night, Harry Potter, all that jazz. I'm a sucker for romance so if you have any recommendations let me know. For my sixteenth this month, I'm getting a nook, so if any of you have anything to say about the nook let me know about that as well. I love these message boards and am quite new to them, and I feel welcome! I look forward to communicating with fellow teen readers. See you!

We're almost the same age, I'm a decade and a half old (aka 15) as of a few months ago and I got my nook for my b-day too! SO I've gotta tell you you are not making a mistake! It's fantastic, and it's so cool to have my whol library RIGHT THERE! Yes, yes, I know I'm a hyper book fanatic. lol
So you like romance huh? Me too. I would probably have to recommend Wings by Aprilynne Pike, Spells, also by Aprilynne Pike, Brightly Woven by Alexandra Bracken, and The Dark Guardian series by Rachel Hawthorne. I could probably name a ton more but those are the main one's off the top of my head. The first 2 are about faeries but in a completely original way that's completely awesome! The 3d one is from a debut author and it was absolutely amazing! There's wizars and magic, mystery, suspense and a whole lot of romance! I adore that book! And the 4th is a series of 4 so far that's about werewolves. It's really amazing and they're REALLY sweet! LEt's put it this way, I developed a fictional crush on all the werewolf guys! LOL Yes, it;s sad...but hey, they were sweet and awesome and hot...and yeah, I can't see any teenage girl not liking those guys. LOL
Well I'd type a longer message but as it is I must be going so I shall say farewell for now and happy reading!
p.s. what books do you recommend???
06-09-2010 02:20 PM
Hey I'm Gizelle and I'm obviously a new user here. XD
I love books so much that most of my money goes to buying more books. I also like anime and writing. I guess that's much about it for me.. =D
You can add me (if you want) or send me a PM (if you want again) =D
06-09-2010 05:00 PM
I love a lot of those books too! Wasn't Spells just heart breaking when Tamina and Laurel didn't get together in the end? I WAS SO MAD! I know she is meant to be with David, but come on, delicious and amazing Tamina? How can you pass that up?! I liked it how Barnes finally died though. I think she is making another book to the series! I cannot wait to read it! Oh, and I love shiver too! It just made me cry and laugh and smile...and cry. Why couldn't she become a wolf? At least he finally became a human! AND I MEAN LIKE FINALLY! Took forever. There should so be a series to Shiver. I like reading some sad stories. Ever read Harry Potter? (Who hasn't heard about Harry Potter?) One of the greatest books ever made. Such imagination. I just get made J.K. Rowling kills all her characters. Like seriously! Fred (WHY FRED!), Dobby, (WHY DOBBY? HE WAS THE SMEAGUL OF LORD OF THE RINGS!), Dumbeldore (need I say more?), sirius black (she must have been on something when she killed him), lupin (okay, why? Why lupin? WHY THE WEREWOLF AND AMAZING GUY? WHY?!), and a ton more. Like seriously, she is a murderer in writing. But I love her writing all the same. *Laughing Out Loud*.
I am just a huge fan in fantasy and fiction. If you want to see any of the other books I like, check out my library on my B&N. And I have so many favorites, would take me months to tell ya!
06-11-2010 12:32 PM
you sound like me!!! Right now I'm trying to get a hold of the 6th enola holmes book! I can't find it ANYWHERE in any libraries or stores and Im not allowed to buy books. Can someone lend it to me on the ebook thingy?
06-11-2010 07:53 PM
I'm Jordan most people call me OLD! I'm not new to the site but I am new to tenderness! I am a teenager and I LOVE to READ!!!! I don't camp or ride horses I sit in my room, play on my computer, write & play music, or Read. I am one of those teenagers that thinks of herself as Bella but really it's a love triangle made up of Edward Cullen, Ronald Weasley And Me. You just can't top freckles or Bronze hair!
I love to play guitar and write my own music and in my free time I like to write stories that have nothing to do with princesses or lolli pops.
I prefer salt over sweets and can't stand the taste of envelopes!
I think that's enough random facts to last a life time, until next time.
06-12-2010 09:43 AM
I like your name, it's pretty!
I'm pretty new on here too so I keep checking this board and responding to almost everyone so people will talk to me! LOL Hee-hee-hee
But, oh you sound like me! I hardly get money that doesn't go towards books! lol And I deliberate about which books to buy FOREVER!
What's anime? What do you like to write?
How do you add someone? We could be book buddies!
06-13-2010 11:24 PM
You do write a lot. Oh well, I don't really mind. Those books sound very interesting, I think I will check them out. I like the paranormal subject, really fascinating.
No I have not read the Hunger Games, but I want to. I know what happens in the first book, real sad. But everyone adores them, so why not give them a try?
Thank you for the compliment, I love making sayings. They have deep meanings in them, or they really don't matter to me in anyway.
Here is another one, just a short and fun one I made a couple days ago, "What is the truth, because it is hidden. What is lost, because it is forgotten. What is life, because that is uncertain." Just something to think about.
And I think its cool that your hyper like that, everyone is one time or another. Haha.
What I write in my notebooks is really my thoughts, and my opinions. I write personal things in there, because I make a daily thing (well not always daily...like maybe every other day haha) just to write down. Example, "Today was" or "Today I..." like that.
The job I wish for is a lot. I want to go to a great college, be an author, a writer, maybe a journalist (yes I spelled that wrong), volunteer person, just a ton of things. Oh, I love sports too. I never mind to get down and dirty, why shouldn't people? Maybe even a singer.
One thing I really need to work on in my writing is my grammar and spelling. I am terrible at that. Ugh.
And even if you are a creepy stocker (which I really hope dearly you are not) I have told you nothing to find me, (better not.)
I will go also,
P.S. What was I talking about? A Laurel thing??
06-14-2010 04:21 PM
Hi everyone! My name is Ame. I like in South Jersey (USA) and I love to read! It isn't my fav thing to do though [drawing's first. readings second.]. I'm turning 14 in less then 2 months, and i'm the shortest person in my school! (fun fact! <3) I love every type of book. I finished almost all the books in the child section, and i'm making my way though the teen books! <3
06-17-2010 04:14 PM
Well, to start things off... I'm Ashley. I won't bother saying that I love books because if I didn't I wouldn't be here. At school, I'm one of the captains for the cheerleading team. I have a mostly B average. And something most people need to know, I'm not normal. I'm in the kind of friend group that will reach out to anybody but most don't reach back cause we're the weird, scary, always wear black type of people. On some days I'm like them but for the most part, I just fit in there with some twists of my own. They are fun people that tend to be very happy. It's a strange combo (my friends and cheer that is) but there you go. I like to come home though and escape the presure of school and read. Mostly the kind that have vamps, werewolves, faeries, etc. That's me. If you don't like me, I'll apologize ahead of time but I won't change...

HELLO NEW USERS!!
We are so glad you are joining the boards and in an effort to keep the boards clean there are a few places you can start off before you post a thread. Some great threads to check out would be the Online Book Club.
This club has already started a book club so there is no need to start a new one unless you do not like the books that they are reading. Currently I believe they are reading two books per month due to the fact that it is summer and most people have more time to read right now.
Another great thread would be the Ultimate Book Recommendation List
This thread has a giant list on it that I created that will give many recommendations. The thread is not just about the list though. You can also post on the thread if you are looking for a good book or wanna add one to the ever growing list.
Other than that welcome to the boards and I hope you have fun.
